Okay HERE WE GO. The adventures in making these $6 ebay boots the right color for my dear Nero.
So here's our boots:
Step one of this adventure is going to be using that deglazer stuff to prep the material. Frankly, I'm not certain I did it right? The boots look more or less the same but the paper towel came away kind of purple at first?? But okay, I hopefully did it right, and if I messed up well... the boots were $6... There are worse mistakes I can make.
The boots are definitely not actual leather, but my friend who has been customizing shoes suggested I use this anyway?? So okay. Onwards!
So I theoretically got them deglazed. There was some glue on the sole so I went ahead and sanded that down a bit with a multi sided nail file. It looks a little weird now, but I should be able to cover it up with the paint (I am in fact, planning to paint the Entire Shoe from top to bottom).
So now... it's time to paint the shoe with white paint to act as a base since they're black and I want these babies to be GOLD.
So okay, here we go! Painting! My supplies are makeup sponges, a paint brush, foil so I don't wreck my table and Angelus' flat white. The sponge is used for most of the boot, the brush is used for any tight spaces.
So basically what I do is I put the paint on the sponge and go to town. It spreads pretty well, and I could maybe use the brush directly on the boot but I'm not sure I'd have as much control? The coats needs to be thin and then you do like, a million of them.
It maintains flexibility! I can't tell you how many coats this was bc I basically just kept rotating the boot and going over it as it dried. It dries REALLY fast. It's kind of streaky rn, but I'm not gonna worry about that until I'm actually putting down the correct color.
So tonight went pretty well! I reported back to my friend who has painted shoes and--
*sweats nervously* Oo-oops... w-well we'll see how it goes... it seems to only really matter if you're gonna toss these in the washing machine, which I am not intending to do so...
