Obitsu 11cm Question and Decision~

Recommended Posts

Pickle

I've just started pondering about buying an 11cm Obitsu body from The Junky Spot and a Parabox head from them as well. Reason being is because I'm an impatient person so as I wait for my Miu's face-up to be redone and whatnot, I'd like to play with an Obitsu doll to entertain myself. However, I don't know which head I'd want to buy and I'm pondering about doing the face-up myself to practice and such.

I've been thinking about the Obitsu D01N head (since I'll be getting the body in flesh tone).

Here's what that looks like

or as an alternative I thought of the Parabox Petite Fairy Head Fleshtone

Here's what that one looks like

I do not know how to do face-ups yet but I thought it could be fun working on an Obitsu head. Hence why I'd like the D01N head better than the second option I've shown. I'd like to know what you guys think and which head you think would be best for practicing a face-up on.

Do you guys enjoy your Obitsus? Is there anything important that I should know about when it comes to them? And what kind of materials do you guys use to do an Obitsu's face-up (other than the anime eye stickers/decals)?

Thank you for reading guys and gals! I look forward to your responses! : D I'm really considering buying one I just need some more information. ^^

I have the OB11 with the D01N head-- all in white since their normal skin is pretty dark. My personal opinion is the Fairy head sculpt is really awkward looking-- I dislike how the jaw juts out and how little of a forehead it has. If you get a D01N head, it would look very cute painted like a Pure Neemo-- which you can do with some vinyl-friendly sealant (Mr. Super Clear), acrylic paints, and chalk pastels.

The OB11 body is really fun to play with. They wear Pukipuki clothes.

Ah, so do you think White Skin would personally be best then and easier to do the face-up on?

Yeah, the Fairy head sculpt can be pretty awkward. It was just the best open-eyed choice out of the given ones on The Junky Spot website for 11cm Obitsus.

So, are there different steps to a face-up on an Obitsu versus a Dollfie Dream or does it run about the same? And if I may ask further, what are the steps to doing a face-up? Put the sealant on, then paint then seal again then the pastels then seal last coat? Or am I totally off? x3 I'm sorry…very VERY new to face-ups. Well, technically, if I go through with doing a face-up on the Obitsu, it will be my very first one/attempt!

I'd say the only downside to getting the D01N head is that it has no eye holes. Some people can do really lovely painted eyes, but I am not one of them. I tried to do a Pure Neemo style faceup on a D01N head but it turned out kinda creepy looking. I'm much better at open eyed heads. I don't really play with my OB11 as a result, so eventually I need to get her a new head so that it's not just a waste. But it's totally up to you, that was just my experience.

Well, no eyeholes can also be a benefit, if you look at it the right way. The plus is that you don't have to buy eyes and fiddle with them. I can deal with fiddling with Dollfie Dream eyes but eyes as small as an 11cm…I don't think I would like that whatsoever. O:

And practice makes perfect with face-ups. 🙂 Even if mine does come out creepy looking, I can at least say I tried.

Thank you for your experience and advice though! :3

Yeah, my first go at painting eyes was a muddy mess. :,3! Practice definitely makes perfect. You can do it! I believe in you!

You got the gist of it down. Coat a few starting coats to get a base layer to protect the head. Then you can paint or do pastel first-- whatever you like. I used to do pastel first, but nowadays I do paint first. Then seal to "save" what you have. Do as many layers to "save" as much as you want, essentially. Sometimes you'll overwork the surface too and it'll lose its ability to hold pigment-- then you need to seal it again to give it some grit back. When you're done, do a few extra coats to seal it all in and gloss the lips/eyes if you like a hint of shininess.

If you don't like the shape of the heads, you could always mod them too. Maybe you can sand down the lower face of the open-eyed head? Here are some photos of the mods I did on my OB11 heads.

I'm really looking to get the D01N head actually. I thought painting an expression could be fun (plus, I don't want to deal with putting teeny tiny eyes in an opened eyed 11cm head haha). 🙂

Your mods look amazing though~ great work. Do you use a dremel or high quality sand paper? O: It makes me want to sand the nose and chin a slight bit. x3

And concerning the glossing, do I put one more coat of sealant over that when I'm done or just leave it be after that? O: Just making sure so that if I do use gloss, that I don't crap it up and have to re-do everything. XD Oh and what is the gloss called that people use anyhow? Do you just find it around the acrylic paint and it says gloss or is it more specific than that?

Thank you ever so much for all your help! : D I really really appreciate it! :3

I used some sand paper. The head is so little so it was a bit weird trying to sand it, haha. If you coat on top of the gloss, the gloss will become matte-- so just leave it after that. Liquitex gloss medium is thick but works and is nice and shiny. I like the ZM gloss that Volks sells because it's very liquid-y. It takes a few coats to get really shiny, but since it's thin it goes into any nooks and crannies of doll lips better. For an OB11, you could probably use either.

Ah, I see. 🙂

Thank you for all the very very helpful information! : D

I'm going to try to get one here soon but due to finances (my loan will start needing to be paid monthly starting this August), I do not know how soon it will be since I'll want to buy all the face-up tools and maybe sandpaper to go along with it all at one time. Haha. But, let's hope it is soon! Posing them looks awfully fun! ^^

(And the character I will probably base the doll off of would be me actually, but I'm thinking of modding the head to be able to fit the cat ears that are supposed to be for the 21cm Obitsu just for fun~ I also think it would be fun having her randomly in pictures of my big dolls and say I was there…technically. (; Haha )
