I joined this forum the first time I was obsessing over dollfie dreams but not I think I'm going to try to actually get my first one!

 

I do have a couple questions as a newbie though!

Can the closed eye dollfie dream heads be modded open?

Where can one buy nice high quality custom eyes

What size eyes/wigs do dollfie dreams use?

Whats the difference between a DDS and a DDIII?

 

I'm sure I have more questions and I'm sorry if this isn't the place to write them. I'm a super newbie to dollfie dreams but I've been collecting bjds for years!

Your questions are simple enough even for me (as a relative newbie) to answer:

 

The closed eye heads can be modded open, though it is not a trivial matter, it appears. Unless you are quite crafty.

 

There are numerous places to buy eyes. I personally get all of mine from Ersa Flora, who has a thread in the marketplace here, or a website here: http://ersaflora.ipower.com/

 

DD heads are 8-9" though 9-10" will fit with a wig cap (or two). I think the earlier heads (01-03, maybe 04) are smaller than the later heads (05+) and may even fit some 7-8" wigs. Though 8-9" is the standard.

 

DDS are shorter than DD3. They use the same internal frame, so the limbs are fully interchangeable, but DDS are a few inches shorter. A lot of that height seems to be in the legs, rather than the torso from what I have seen. I don't yet have a DDS for direct comparison.

 

Other people may be able to clarify further, and certainly will be able to provide more stores for eyes.

I believe for the closed eye heads you'd have to cut them open... I'm a bit lazy though, so I'd rather spend the extra $3 for the open eye version |'D

 

I only know of Ersa Flora for custom eyes, but for high quality eyes in general Arietta Project makes lovely eyes.

 

^^ As Eustia said, 8-9'' wigs will almost always fit Dollfie Dreams perfectly. Not all companies 8-9'' wigs fit the same though, some use elastic that is more stretchy and some will fit a bit small... Some 9-10'' wigs might also fit more like an 8-9'' wig, so if possible it's good to check reviews... If the company also makes dolls, maybe check the head cirbleepference of their dolls to get a better idea about how the wigs would fit?

 

For eye size... It varies by head. If you are looking at one of the character model dolls, then they will list the eye size on their information page. For example: my Saber Alter v2 has 22mm listed as the best size for her eye socket, while my Youmu Konpaku has 24mm listed.

My guess is that 22mm is a safe middle ground, as all heads can technically use the same eye size--- the size will affect the pupil size in comparison to the eye hole. ( sorry if that's a bit confusing;;; )

 

 

For the difference between all of the bodies, I highly recommend taking a look at baldylox's Body comparison thread, he has a comparison of the DDS & DDII bodies, but not the DDIII vs DDS. mitsuki's posted a thread on DDII vs DDIII, from what I skimmed the main differences are height and posing ability.

The DDS is shorter, joints are similar to DDIII and parts can be swapped -- but looks a bit odd?

I'm not sure about the exact height difference though since I can't find my tape measure atm @__@;

Torsos are about the same size, arm length is also the same size... It's the legs that make them taller, they are about the same height when sitting. ( Sitting height can vary a little depending on the size of your dolls head... KOSMOS has a small head so she's about 1cm shorter than Youmu when sitting )
