Raquel Posted August 11, 2014 Okay. So I've read that Testors is bad for vinyl dolls. But I've used it on my obitsus and other vinyl dolls with no problem. I'm trying to decide if I should get some MSC when I order my DDH-06 or maybe continue getting testors which is a LOT easier for me to get. Could it be a weather problem? I'm just kind of confused. People say X will happen but I get Z results.
Amara77 Posted August 14, 2014 I didn't have a problem using it either. Perhaps it's the amount you use? http://amara77.wordpress.com blog and shop Spoke too soon....
Minuette Posted August 18, 2014 I've never had a problem with it either, but if you have the opportunity to get MSC I say go for it. It's the preferred sealant for most artists for a reason and I see no reason to not find out what that reason is.
Jezrah Posted August 18, 2014 I've never used Testors so I can't say for sure, but the complaint I heard about it was that sometimes it didn't dry clear but rather yellowish. Perhaps that could be the result for those that like to do several detailed layers of blushing, and so have to put many coats of sealant on. I've heard similar complaints about MSC actually, except they said that it can get cloudy after too many coats rather than yellowish. I'm not sure how many is too many, as I have never done over 6 coats total.
jadepixel Posted August 19, 2014 What I've heard about Testor's is that it's less consistent than MSC. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it comes out yellow or sticky and there doesn't seem to be a clear reason for it. I haven't tried it myself, just relaying what I've read elsewhere jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
UsagiTeatime Posted September 26, 2014 I have Nanoha sitting next to me begging for a new faceup and like 5 cans of testors... I'm scared if I don't seal enough, I'll stain her. But if I seal too much, she'll get cloudy or yellow. I'm used to faceupping resin dolls! Yukamina Posted September 27, 2014 I used to use Testors for resin bjds, but I switched to MSC. I noticed some of my dolls looked, kinda sweaty? A kind of hot, just started perspiring look...not something I want on my dolls 24/7, lol. I guess the Testors wasn't perfectly matte. Luckily there's an import hobby store in my city that sells MSC. Since I don't even use Testors for resin now, I definitely wouldn't use is on vinyl, there are warning out there about that, after all. I guess it's up to you, though, if you're happy with how Testors has worked for you on vinyl in the past. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
