Volks USA Dollfie Dream Make Up Contest

It seems like Volks USA is holding a make up contest in the style of a cosplay contest.

 

 

I'm actually suprized that the new DDH-08/09 are up for prizes since these two new optional heads are only available at Akihabara Doll Point.

I'm considering entering just for shits and giggles, but it would be nice if someone from this forum wins one of the new optional heads! (If you do take LOTS of pictures )

I was hoping to enter, but it looks like the doll in the photo needs to be one you've painted yourself, so I'm out of luck. Still, I wonder what kind of awesome photos we'll get to see!

While I really hope that the "best" (subjective) make up will win, using Facebook likes as a measuring tool just makes it a popularity contest. Even if Volks post the contestants anonymously, it's easy enough for people to just post vote requests on forums. Of course, this is only coming from someone that has hosts a ton of contests before. This may turn out differently! I sure hope so.

 

Lastly, I'm very excited to see all the lovely face ups. I'm always a fan of custom, fan-made work.

 

Also, it'd be interesting to see this contest in the future with a different set of rules. Like working with one type of head or no-mod rules for instance. I feel some heads are naturally more popular than others already and I think it'd be hard to separate "pretty" from "really good work" on a scale for judging.

 

As an artist myself, I'd like to see artists take on a challenge on less popular heads though.

I'm hoping we'll see some more artists that don't post on this forum, too. I agree though it'd be better to do like DWC and have everybody starting on the same standard head at the same time. I have a couple years worth of faceups I can draw from to enter, so it's not as fair.

Shame it's limited to just residents of America, Canada and Mexico.

I agree, Yukamina, I hardly use Facebook so I don't feel much hope. Also, even though I am quite proud of my Kotone's faceup, I know that my photography skills are nothing special, and that will factor in as well.

If I could, I would but alas I don't have the skills or the tools to enter lol

Oooh, and I just redid Agatha too! I don't think I'm likely to win, but I'm going to take a whack at it anyway.

I really hope they'll accept modded standard Dollfie Dreams! I just started modding one last night.

Yeah, I wonder if they accept modded sculpts... Most of my standards are modded, that would only leave my girl Shia to submit.

I entered the contest. Although i stopped practicing doing face ups cause i ran out of paint i like my work enough to try it out! I've only asked some family members for help as i honestly hate self advertising .-. so far i think only my photos are uploaded. and there is a lot of time before it ends so i hope i can get better photos in!

Sent my two photos in! Sort of at a point of "what the heck, why not", and don't exactly expect to win, but figured it can't hurt.

 

Also, did anyone else notice that under the two announced prizes, it says "DD Department Pick: TBA"? So there's possibly a third, mystery prize.

Little update: I did mention that I modded Agatha when I submitted my photos, and they were accepted. Ag's are pretty subtle, so I don't know if some of the more extreme mods will fly yet, but it seems to be worth taking the chance!

I wonder if they count mouthless 01 mods as too extreme? It's a pretty common thing to do with 01 heads (both of mine are modded like this!)

I think I read that as long as you can still tell it's a Volks head that it was okay... And as long as the mods were not too extreme. I think sanding the mouth off would be acceptable, based on those rules. Personally I can still tell it's a Volks head, so they probably will be able to.

I'm almost tempted to enter since I have two DD heads just waiting for me to work on but as I've never done a DD face up before, I have no idea how that would turn out. LOL. We'll see if that ever happens. In the meantime I would just really love to see and admire people's work.
