K-2 Posted October 29, 2015 Yup, no articulated knees.... I saw both of these in person on Sunday at my local Walmart and I too was left wondering what the heck Mattel was thinking on that one. After seeing Oni-chan's pictures it makes me wonder, with the relatively small size of the knee joint perhaps they were having trouble engineering a suitable joint structure, which would be easily bendable (for small children) without breaking, stand up to wear and tear, and yet be stiff enough to support the doll's weight. Demiurgo Posted October 29, 2015 Frankie Stein is my favourite doll and it was the first I've ever bought. I'd like to buy other characters too, but my money are reserved for figures until the end of this year.
Lore Posted October 29, 2015 Since we're posting pictures of our dolls, here's my own collection. I did go a little MH crazy while I was visiting my family in the States. My small horde now watches over my other BJD's from their floating IKEA shelf. I would love to snag a 13 Wishes Catty Noir and another Rochelle Goyle in the near future so if anyone wants to clear out their collection please keep me in mind. I think if they scaled up the double joints on the 17 inch versions that everything would have been fine. But the big knee is molded just like the regular small girls and wouldn't be so good for such a large doll for the reasons you listed. Either way, Mattel and that other company really dropped the ball on them. Nice collection pic Aubzy82! You have some cool ghouls in there. We haven't seen the deer girl released here yet but my GF wants one bad. It isn't much but here's the crew I have so far. I don't actively collect the MH girls but I did buy a few of these in the pic below. The others are extras or duplicates my GF had and gave to me. I bought the 17 inch Draculaura and I want the Clawdeen to go with her. Looks like I've gotten a small collection of Monster High going here. ^_^ by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Keep sharing collection pics! I love seeing what other people have and how they're set up! I ordered Batsy Claro (white bat) & Isi Dawndancer (deer girl) from Amazon.com so I think anyone in the States can get them. As far as buying her in-store, I haven't seen an official release for any toy stores or large chains, like Walmart, yet. You've got a nice little group yourself! I REALLY want the black&white Frankie you got there, but they all seem to be abused and torn apart on Ebay or sell for outrageous prices in mint condition. And I agree, I hope to see people keep sharing those collection pics of their MH horde! glynjay Posted November 9, 2015 What turned into only collecting Clawdeen wolf dolls turned into getting as many of the girls that I can get my hand on. SisterKyoya Posted November 11, 2015 As of a month ago I have 3 of the 17" girls... Needless to say I didn't buy them because I kept thinking for the same amount of money I could do more DD stuff. I told Raven I wasn't opposed to having them, I just couldn't bear buying them for myself. LOL! So I was thinking he might get me one for my birthday (I wanted Frankie the most) and he totally floored me with Draculaura and Galoopy (sp? Dunno, I hate that name so we call her Calliope.) With so many of our DD stories never being fully fleshed out and done as photo stories, Raven and I decided that the current photo story I'm currently working on is the beginning of the 'reboot' for the entire family story. We just ended up with more than I ever could have dreamed of in the beginning. Ralph has grown from an MDD all the way to a Smart Doll, Ringo is Rainie's twin who was never there in the beginning (so confusing!), Yuriko and Dakota are getting a few years younger, someone else is going to have a BIG surprise this summer, and loads of other minor tweaks that just need to be done to smooth things out. Plus with the storyline changing a bit, the big MH girls can be a part of the whole thing too. That's something I could just never figure out with the normal sized MH. I've had a story brewing for a long time between Naiomi and Ghoulia that I could just never work because she is so small compared to the DD. I didn't like the bizarre difference in size. Since Ghoulia is my fave MH gir by a long shot (followed by Operetta and Frankie) I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have her in the 17" size. So... as it turns out, I've got some solid plans on making Ghoulia into a DD. Has anyone done a MH to DD yet? The biggest problem I'm facing is the skin color difference. I'd think about dying the vinyl of a SWS body except for the fact that the sculpt I'll be using is from a limited girl. I may be brash with painting limited heads, but I have NO confidence in dying one. I really like my smaller MH girls (I have Ghoulia, Frankie, Draculaura, 2 Operettas, & Lagoona) but I don't know what to do with them much of the time other than having them sit on the shelf. I quit collecting Barbies a long time ago because the size they are is a real bugger to sew for, making it not enjoyable (and why Dolly has so little clothing.) It doesn't help any that I personally find the MH stands to be utter crap. The post never stays in the base, even for the 17" girls! Does anyone else have a MH vinyl figure? I have Ghoulia and she's adorable. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
goodgolly Posted November 12, 2015 What turned into only collecting Clawdeen wolf dolls turned into getting as many of the girls that I can get my hand on. I have a huge collection of girls and a few of the boys I even have a few Ever After High characters Ha! This sounds familiar. I was only going to have a few, but then my bookshelves exploded... >.> So I was thinking he might get me one for my birthday (I wanted Frankie the most) and he totally floored me with Draculaura and Galoopy (sp? Dunno, I hate that name so we call her Calliope.) That's how it's supposed to be pronounced! Just with a Goo replacing the first syllable Does anyone else have a MH vinyl figure? Ajahli Posted November 14, 2015 I started with a Rochelle and then after I saw the beautiful customs people were making I decided to give it a try. So now I have 5 personal customs, 6 for my collection, and 2 of the 17 inch dolls (I just bought Draculaura and I'm DYING to get a start on repainting her face. AHHH! *excited*). I have one classic Draculaura sitting on my table waiting for a repaint and I might try and sell her afterwards. Anyway, I don't see myself collecting ALL of the dolls, but every now and then a particular line gives me the bug, like their recent cirque du freak line. Rochelle is still my favorite though! I have a Draculaura vinyl but I'm waiting for a Rochelle one ;v; and I'm excited for Isi Dawndancer! I NEED her! LOL I'd like to try experimenting with obitsu bodies for them, to give my customs more of a "bjd feel" but I'm not sure if that will work or not. Does anybody know what size clothes the 17 inch dolls can wear? I read somewhere they can wear MSD clothes and 9-10 inch wigs. Or maybe I just thought I did... I'm glad I'm not the only one here who loves them!
baldylox Posted November 15, 2015 For some reason Becca won't post pics of her collection here so I decided to do it for her. We got lucky at the flea market yesterday and she found a HUGE box of MH girls for CHEAP. We wound up getting 24 girls for $22! Most didn't have clothing and about 6 of them were missing arms and such but overall it was a great find because she wound up getting a bunch of girls she didn't have. Anyways, after cleaning them up and adding them to the collection shelves, Becca did a head count and she's now at 209 Monster High dolls! And people think *I'M* nuts for having as many DD's as I do! Here's a shot of most of the collection.... she's got others on her desk and shelves across from these but this pic shows the main bulk. My GF is now at 209 Monster High dolls. Damn. by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Yeah, I'm amazed too. LOL Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Hustic Posted November 17, 2015 I've always been interested in the Monster High Dolls but I have just settled for watching my younger cousin plays with her collection of 10+. Lore Posted November 21, 2015 Would anyone be interested in my first faceup journey involving one of the frightmare's I purchased? Lore Posted November 25, 2015 I'm going to show you guys what I did for my first faceup on my MH Frightmare Aery Evenfall. Please let me know if this thread is the correct place to post this. I've never done any repaints/faceups at all before so this is my very first attempt. I'm an artist so that was helpful, but nothing prepared me for working with medium I wasn't using before while working on a 3D model. I normally use prisma pencils on 2D. That's it. Never used chalk, watercolor, or acrylic until now. Even after finishing this project I still have a giant learning curve to get over and I'm a perfectionist so I'm not entirely happy with how she turned out, but I had to stop before I got too discouraged. I hope this inspires and helps others who have thought about repainting their own dolls. I would be happy to answer any questions you folks have so please ask. baldylox Posted November 29, 2015 @Billy, thank you very much! I hated that factory paint so much. Her eyebrows were too Eugene Levy for me. Ha ha! That's too funny! I really wish they would paint those girls like they show them on the box art.... those images are so much nicer and prettier than what's on the doll! If they did that, I'd be way more inclined to like those Frightmares. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
