baldylox Posted September 8, 2014 It's been a long time coming but my little ones are finally getting their yukatas! Goodgolly finished up the ones she had left to make for my girls and now that they're all done, I can finally give them to my little MDD girls so they can celebrate their love for Star Wars. Yep, that's right.....just like their Papa, these 4 girls also love Star Wars. All of them are fans and a couple are pretty into the details of the movies. They also love the Original Trilogy and despise the prequels.... just like their old man. So here's my girls! DSC_2659 by balldylox, on Flickr Kino - "Hmm, I think I like the blue on this one." Umi - "I like the greens on mine!" DSC_2660 by balldylox, on Flickr Hitomi - "Hi Papa! My yukata is so cute!" Bud - "Why am I here? This sucks." DSC_2661 by balldylox, on Flickr "I want to go first okay Papa?" That's fine dear but I wasn't expecting you to be so up front about it. "But I really like it! I wanted to show the cool pictures...." It's okay dear, go ahead. "Kay! I have Princess Leia on one sleeve and the other has a Stormtrooper! And the Death Star is right up front! And you can kinda see C3P-O down on the bottom too.... hee hee!" DSC_2662 by balldylox, on Flickr "And.... and the back has R2-D2! Isn't he so cute?" Heh, yes he is. DSC_2663 by balldylox, on Flickr Some info on her yukata.... the material used was given to me by my Mom. She bought it at a thrift store YEARS ago..... it's actually a vintage Star Wars bedsheet from 1978! Of course I could never use it as a sheet because it was for a single sized bed so I just kept it around along with my other SW stuff. So it was really great to be able to use something vintage that my Mom gave me to make something cute for my girls. It's a similar thing for the fabric Umi has hers made of. It's also vintage but it's curtains from Return of the Jedi. "Lookit! Lookit! I gots Chewbacca and a pig guy on mine! And speeder bikes! Those are FAST! They go zoom thru the woods!" DSC_2664 by balldylox, on Flickr What's on the back Umi? "Umm.... it's Darth Vader....." And? "He's kinda covered up...." DSC_2665 by balldylox, on Flickr You don't sound so thrilled about him. "He's.... scary...." DSC_2666 by balldylox, on Flickr "ME NEXT! ME NEXT!" Heh, go ahead Hitomi. "Yay! My yukata is from ROTJ too but it's made outta an old pillowcase! Ain't that awesome?" DSC_2667 by balldylox, on Flickr "But what makes it SUPER awesome is this! EWOKS! Fuzzy, cuddly, cute Ewoks!" Oh? You like them that much? "Oh yeah! Logray is the medicine man and Chirpa is the chief! He runs that place!" DSC_2668 by balldylox, on Flickr But what about the other sleeve? It has the heroes on it right? "Yeah well, I guess those guys are cool too. But they ain't Ewoks!" DSC_2669 by balldylox, on Flickr "And I got the Droids and Chewie on the back! But Chewies too tall so his head's covered up by my belt...." DSC_2670 by balldylox, on Flickr H - "Bud! Come show yours now!" B - "Pfftt, no way. This is boring, I'm leaving." DSC_2671 by balldylox, on Flickr H - "Aww come on! You look cute in yours!" B - "Cute my foot. I hate pictures." DSC_2672 by balldylox, on Flickr H - "Get up there you! Show off your outfit!" B - "Fine.... if it'll get you to shut up I will." DSC_2673 by balldylox, on Flickr Hey there Bud, you look quite nice in that. "Whatever. It's a friggin bedsheet. Who gives their daughters clothes made outta that? You suck." DSC_2674 by balldylox, on Flickr Oh come on now, you were excited about it when you first got it. "No I wasn't. And how come mine doesn't have pics of any characters on the sleeves like everyone else? Mine just has letters on them. Lame." DSC_2675 by balldylox, on Flickr But you've got Luke on the front and someone really cool on the back... "Luke sucks... he's so whiny. Han needs to punch him in the face." Sigh.... who's that on the back? DSC_2676 by balldylox, on Flickr "Some big guy dressed in black.... and who cares? Why are you asking me all these questions? It's pretty annoying." Well I thought you liked Darth Vader. At least you seemed to when you watched the movies. "Well he IS the baddest of the bad so I guess that's alright. DSC_2677 by balldylox, on Flickr And what else? "Well..... he does fly that frakkin sick TIE fighter around like he stole it...... all FEEEOWWW and WHOOOSH!" DSC_2678 by balldylox, on Flickr Oh yeah, that *is* cool. "No, what's cool is when he slices off Lukes hand and then tells him he's his dad! He's all like "Poooo KAHHHH, Poooo KAHHH..... Luuuke.... *I* am your father. Pooooo KAHHHH.... Poooo KAHHHH." DSC_2679 by balldylox, on Flickr Hee hee, I knew you liked Vader. You're just a bit shy about it is all. "Drat! You tricked me you turd!" DSC_2680 by balldylox, on Flickr K - "Awww, she's so cute when she's mad." H - "I know right? Good ol' Budbud, you're adorable!" B - "What did I say about calling me that Hitomi?" H - "Don't do it? Hee hee!" B - "Sigh..... I'm surrounded by idiots." DSC_2681 by balldylox, on Flickr Now for the group photo! Gather round girls. DSC_2682 by balldylox, on Flickr Everyone say cheese! "CHEEEEESE!" Bud - "Limburger." DSC_2683 by balldylox, on Flickr Isn't repurposing old stuff fun? I'd like to thank Goodgolly for all her hard work in getting my little Star Wars nerds their custom yukatas. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Poofiemus Posted September 8, 2014 That's an awesome use for those old things! Plus the vintage fabric has that slightly less intense color palette that's hard to find replicas of these days. Right on! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
battrastard Posted September 9, 2014 Woot! Hooray for repurposing! Tana - "Suck it up, Bud. You like Vader and you know it! ya wannabe sith in the making!" *giggle* Awesome yukatas, sir! Nice to see the lil ones enjoying them. Including Bud! "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
Silverwing Posted September 10, 2014 Those are AWESOME! That's even cooler that you managed to have them made from old sheets and curtains too! The vintage style to that actually makes the Yukatas have a more traditional look to them at first glance. I especially love the green one on Umi! Haha Bud is way too cute. How is it angry girls make me so happy. Her vader impression was priceless. Loved it Billy!

I never really had any use for those pillow cases, curtains and sheets but since they were vintage and my Mom gave them to me, I never got rid of them. I guess my pack rat ways worked to my advantage this time! battrastard said: Woot! Hooray for repurposing! Tana - "Suck it up, Bud. I'm extremely happy with how they all turned out. And even tho she isn't saying so, Bud loves them too. So yes Tana, I do think Bud is quite the Vader fan.... not sure if she's a good candidate for a Sith tho, she's still a good girl inside. Silverwing said: Those are AWESOME! I agree that the way they worked out does have a really neat "feel" to them. Becca did a great job with placement of images on these and I think that helps a bit with the older style and look they have. I have no clue why the little angry girls are so friggin cute but they sure are! When are adding one to your family? And thanks about her Vader impression, I actually snickered a bit while writing it. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. I'm also a big sucker for DD's in kimono so once I had my main goal of having a maid uniform for each of my girls, I started getting them all kimono/yukatas. Quote At first glance you can't tell that it's Star Wars until you look closer. That's really awesome and unique. Who can say they have a Star Wars yukata!? Thanks so much! The thought of using those old sheets and curtains for DD kimono just kinda popped into my head one day. I used to be a HUGE Star Wars fan so being able to mix my old hobby with my new one like this was really fun. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. I used to collect the older toys before I got into anime and DD's. I sold almost everything I had but kept the complete loose figure set as that's what meant the most to me as a child.
