Some questions now that first doll has arrived

Recommended Posts

Ranko arrived and I noticed the black socks are not lined or anything and I am not sure what to do to keep it from staining? I am terrified of staining her perhaps too much.

Also what works well for a hair brush for dollfies? Rankos hair is messy and I do not have anything obvious that would work well. Ranko does not want me taking pictures with her hair messy .

For the hair brush problem, they sell Tenshi-no-Hairbrushes at the Volks USA store online. 🙂

Here's the link: http://volksusastore.com/dollfie/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=1291

It's supposed to help with styling but other people have said you can also put some type of wax inside the doll's wig as well but I don't trust it. Volks does also sell the styling wig wax if you go under Tools & Materials and go to the Styling tab. 🙂

And for the socks, all I would know to do is either soak wash them so that most of the black dye can bleed out and that could help there be less of a chance of them staining Ranko. OR you just might have to have the Ranko either wear white socks/knee highs/tights/body stocking underneath the black socks themselves. That's all I know.

Hope I could be of some help! I'm just starting out so I don't know as much as others~ :3

The Tenshi-no-Hairbrush is so much like a toothbrush, I've actually seen people at my local meet using them. I prefer to use combs on my girls' wigs, personally; I feel I get more tangles out that way without yanking hair out. Got a pair of combs for like $3 at my local grocery store, so I keep one in a drawer near where I display them, and the other in the backpack I use to tote them to meets. Either option is going to be far less expensive and have less waiting than the Tenshi-no-Hairbrush.

As for the stockings, I agree, wash them first. I've used dish soap before, and that seems to help; vinegar can help set the dye too. Just make sure it's all rinsed first.

If you're still worried, take a hand and wrap the stockings around it for a couple days--a hand is a lot easier to replace than an entire shin/thigh combo! If the hand stains, then you need to either wash the stockings again, wrap her legs in static-cling plastic wrap before putting the stockings on, or both.

Unfortunately what stains and what doesn't is kind of erratic, and it seems both humidity and heat can also have an effect, making some items stain for one owner while another declares them harmless. >.<

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

$9 plus shipping for basically a toothbrush?!

I use a cheap toothbrush the brush my dolls hair, and I also have a doll hair brush that came with the Monster High dolls. The MH hair brush I really like now, more than the toothbrush. Tip: When brushing long hair, start from the bottom (brushing downwards) then work your way higher. That should prevent tangling and damaging the hair.

Sorry I offended you with just mentioning the Tenshi-no-Hairbrush. That's the only thing I knew of that could style a wig so far, until you and Poofiemus mentioned alternatives that is. Also, I haven't been able to style my girls' wigs yet since I need a cloth wig cap and I need to make a final decision on my girls' eyes before I can put their wigs on. I did say that I'm just starting out but *shrugs* I apologize for my ignorance~

Well, at least there is better information for you then, lordmethous~ best of luck!

patpat. I'm going to say that suggesting the tenshi hairbrush is good. I don't have one so I don't know what the brush/bristles are like but some people might buy it for the double feature of having the pick on the other end for cheeky strands of hair

I myself use a combo of various things, depending how much I paid for a wig a soft bristle tooth brush, a wide spoke doll brush ( Lots of space between the spokes), wide spoke people comb.

As for staining it's been said, just wash it carefully, and test it before hand on a hand or small area of skin good luck!

I have more dollfies than my age in years *×*

Actually the Tenshi-no-hairbrush is awesome. I tried using a couple different toothbrushes before I got it, and the Tenshi-no-hairbrush was much better. It just combs perfectly.

For dark colors Nicholas Hill, author of The Definitive Book on the Care and Preservation of Vinyl Dolls and Action Figures and the chemist behind RemoveZit, recommends a soak in 50% ice water, 50% white vinegar to help set and rinse out the excess dyes.
