Obitsu 60cm ball-joint body as DD body replacement?

Recommended Posts

sleepywolf

Recently bought a custom DD head and need a body for it but Volks Japan have no DDIII bodies in stock as usual. Looks like lots of ppl have had great success using the Obi 45(?) body as an MDD replacement so I thought that maybe the newer ball-joint Obi 60cm body can be used as a DD body replacement.

Most posts in this sub-forum about the Obi 60cm body seems to be related to the older, non-ball-joint, body so I'm taking the liberty to sort of re-ask some questions.

* Does anyone have a side-by-side comparison, preferably undressed, of a DDII/III and the ball-joint Obi60 body?

* Maybe it's due to the light setup but in the right-most picture here, the ball-joint Obi60 body looks alot more shiny than Volks' DD body. Is Obitsu's hard vinyl more shiny?

* As far as I can tell by the first picture in this post, the Obi white skin is the closest match for Volks Normal skin. Any comments on that?

* Can the ball-joint Obi60 body stand on its own or is a stand needed?

The Obitsu 60cm ball joint body has been around for quite some time. Their newer design is the 48/50cm body, which Parabox uses for their 40cm through 47cm bodies.

If you're going to put a DD head on an Obitsu body, this is the best procedure I've seen short of buying one of those third party adapters.

Sorry, can't help you there. I've modded all my 55/60cm ball joint bodies as to be useless for such comparison.

I don't know what it is about some of Parabox's photos but they are often not the best. The vinyl parts on Obitsus have about the same matte finish as those of most Dollfie Dreams. The hard plastic joint parts are a bit shiny however.

Yes, Obitsu white skin is a very close match for Volks normal. It isn't perfect as there are occasional variations from batch to batch.

Yes it can stand by itself, very well actually. Also most Obitsus come with a metal plate (the black disk you frequently see them standing on) and they have magnets in their feet that allow for some "off balance" looking poses. You can put them on their plate and stick them on a shelf for months without worrying about a face plant. However I've found that most shoes are enough to block the magnet's pull. But the joints are tight enough I don't use the plate most of the time.

The 60cm body has 6.3cm long feet. Get some good fitting shoes in the 6.5cm to 7cm range and stuff the toes if needed to make the shoes fit snugly. Nothing can make an Obitsu (or any doll for that matter) harder to pose than ill fitting shoes. The $10 Dollfie Dream pumps (in black, white, and red) fit very well.

My GF has a 60cm ball jointed Obitsu body for her Emiko and it works very well even tho it's not as poseable as the DD bodies in my opinion. I don't have any side by side pics now but I can take some maybe by this Sunday to share?

I know AsianEd took some pics of a bunch of bodies together for comparison but I have no clue if he ever did anything about posting them online. I'll have to ask him about it and see if he can share some of those.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

You can use a medium grade sandpaper to light sand the hard vinyl parts, and give them a better matte finish. I've done this with my 27cm Obitsus and it worked really well.

I find they are not as shiny in real life as in the pictures.

They can but the default feet are a bit smaller then DD. Also the DD's feet have a more natural shape, so I find they stand better barefoot. If they are both wearing shoes they are equal. I love the Obitsu magnets

(wish Volks would make some optional feet like this)

Lots of useful replies. Thanks everyone!

Tried to figure out how much it'd cost to build a body from parts (don't need a head and the metal base plate). Got a bit confused by their part descriptions: on the "Oblong abdominal part" it says "two count" while on all other parts used in pairs it says "a pair". Not sure if it means I have to buy two separate parts or if I can buy a set of two

Thanks but Dollvari's pics are good enough.

No worries, was mostly curious about any body shape differences so your pics are more than good enough. Thanks!

I've found that most shoes are enough to block the magnet's pull.

I'm guessing that's why Volks never made any magnet feets. Hmmm... wonder how much work would be needed to install magnets in Volks feet.

The Oblong abdominal part come as a pair, you will need both to complete a body. I have found it's cheaper to buy a whole body. It could work out if you already had some pieces of the body already. You can also find used body's for 10-15,000yn in auctions. You can also find some of the older dolls that came on those body's cheap, normally just the doll. If you are just after the body, that may be a good option.
