Dollfie Dream Ranka and Sheryl announced!

I personally think ayanenana13's Sheryl looks way better than the pictures. c : I will agree though that the pictures did look like her mouth was open where ayanenana's looks like the mouth is completely closed. Upon closer observation though, the brows do look like the preview pictures of Sheryl's to me. o:

But that's just my opinion/view on the matter. ^^"

Raven mentioned to me yesterday that he's pretty sure all the Japan orders are most likely shipped before the international ones. It makes sense, but annoying.

 

And about Sheryl's mouth, the difference in the mouth could just be that the bald version has her head tilted down. Sometimes that can make a huge difference. The bald eyebrows don't really look any different than the promo pic version except for the difference in lighting and the photographer's skill. The bald pic also makes her lips much less shiny. So I wouldn't panic just yet from a single photo.

 

And for those in the later shipments, I tend to take a crazy amount of photos so if for some reason I don't end up taking shots of some of the angles you're looking for just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Even from the Promo pic that has her head facing down you can see the pout from the side so if it was that distinct you'd still see it presumably from the angle in the yja photo. Maybe need to search in Japanese to find other owners photos posted and see comparisons

I think its the angle. Another pic on Y!AJ had Sheryl's head with more lighting and the eyebrows are definitely medium blonde.

ya wow her mouth does NOT look open! I really hope this is not the case. In all of her pictures it's definitely open. I do hope it's just a weird angle...

I guess I always assumed it was part of the faceup, not the actual sculpt. Hmmm... color me confused... Here is a cropped version of one of the promo pics I save at some point:

 

 

Is it just the lines of the faceup or is the mouth sculpt different? I doubt we'll know until more/better owner pics pop up.

If you go look at the Yahoo Japan auctions other image of Sheryl you can tell from the side photo they took of her mouth, it is not open… the mouth just seems really different than the other photos taken by non-volks members from the previous models on display. Presumably if she had a real pout like the previous display models it would also be seen from the side angle.

 

At this point she is what she is, but that was her main selling point for me

It doesn't even look like her face up is complete. You can CLEARLY see Sheryl has face up that makes her mouth look open.

 

 

 

I'm going to be so sad if my Sheryl is like that. Sheryl's lips is was killed me when I first saw her.

At least those pics make it clear that the 'openness' of the mouth is from the faceup, not the shape of the sculpt. I know that isn't a consolation to those who don't do faceups.

Is it only the faceup though? From the default photos it seems there is a minor inset much like the ddh05 from the corners of her mouth

From my best guess it really just looks like they didn't do heavy enough paint lines in the faceup to mimic what we saw in the promo pics. Once I get her I plan on taking pics with an index card in her mouth so we can actually tell.

 

I wouldn't say that the 05 mouth is shallow (the 01 really is though) because Lucas still has about 2mm depth to his mouth after I sanded it down a bit. That's twice as deep as an unmodded 01 mouth. It may not be as deep as Kos-Mos' mouth, but so much can be done right and wrong based just on the faceup. I'm pretty sure the 'error' we are seeing is just a wimpy faceup job on the lips. As an OCD perfectionist, I really don't understand how Volks can't replicate the DD they show us in the promo pics. It seriously drives me batty, especially when we get NO updates on the progress after the preorders close.

Yeah it seems like a very minimal inset and I only wonder Bc there's highlights near the shadows which seems like it's got dimension right there but then the second default photo clearly has a different dark faceup line.

 

I'm in the first batch so I'm half curious half furious lol Bc I got burned with the ddh05 faceup version when the lips looked Nothing like the photos they took before. For a high end product like this it's not acceptable and it's false advertising.

Hearing this is really disappointing... I'm not too interested in these two but it worries me to not be able to trust promo shots from volks... bodies that need fixing up fresh from the warehouse and now this? Get it together...

her mouth really is not pouty... here is a picture of ranka and sheryl from hisyo hisyo with different eyes.. sad to see non-pouty sheryl..

 

I'm happy with the "change" from the promo shots, though it'd be nice if Volks had advised us to this earlier.

Call me crazy, but I think I actually prefer Sheryl's mouth this way. ^^; If her faceup in the promos had looked like this I actually might have caved and ordered her (or, more likely, joined a split, because she sure wouldn't be staying Sheryl.)

I have to agree. I'm not bothered by the change and it still should work for the character I want her for but I can totally understand how it feels like a bait and switch from Volks. No idea why they changed it so much.

It definitely looks like her mouth is missing that dark layer of paint from the promo shots. It's not that hard, they've done really detailed mouths like for Mariko and Rise, so not sure what happened here. I still think she's lovely and was planning to repaint her anyway, but it makes me worry for future pre-order dolls :/

I'm really sad.. I really like the first face-up..

 

I will wait to see her at home..

Not gonna lie... I'm disappointed at the moment about Sheryl AND Ranka, but it maybe just how Hisyo-Hisyo's Ranka looks...

 

I did manage to find these of Ranka and these pictures restored some faith in Ranka's face up.

If I end up not really caring for either girls face ups, I'll end up sending them to a face up artist. I'll just have to work up the courage to actually do it and to have my girls heads get shipped to the person (I already know who I would want, which will be very $$$).
