Uh... ... That Sheryl's lips looks like it has the dark lines on the sides of the mouth, but it doesn't seen like the darker red is there to create the open mouth effect.

Well dang all the other owner pics confirm what I hoped would not happen.

I guess they decided to skip step in their face up process which seems idiotic Bc they use faceplates to do that and its not that difficult. For Sheryl to be portrayed in other figures and media as a more adult character this seems like they just changed her personality.

 

When mine comes in I'm going to send something to volks with help from my Japanese fluent friend and see if they even comment why they didn't keep her original design. For sanity sake one of the photos of her from the ambelo blog should have had this new version in it.

 

Volks, you pay for A and get B. They keep pushing me to stop being a volks girl towards a Danny choo girl.

I'm happy with the "change" from the promo shots, though it'd be nice if Volks had advised us to this earlier.

 

Call me crazy, but I think I actually prefer Sheryl's mouth this way. ^^; If her faceup in the promos had looked like this I actually might have caved and ordered her (or, more likely, joined a split, because she sure wouldn't be staying Sheryl.)

Kosmos and Momo (my first Pre-Order Dolls from Volks) were changed a lot too (not sure if no one noticed? On some pictures Kosmos looks more mature, because her nose is longer compared to the "final version" of her. And for Momo: I'm pretty sure they changed her nose a lot. It looked completely different than in her promotion pictures. So I never had any faith in Volks to begin with. I was sure Sheryl and Ranka would look different in some way xD (I have to admit I'm surprised its only the gap of Sheryls lips though :'O)

Personally, still like Sheryl. I hate her brows enough that I'd wipe the face-up in a heartbeat anyways....:P They are literally some of the ugliest I've ever seen. Ranka still makes me think of Fate and thus I yawn at her. lol.

 

I just don't get one thing........did everyone just kinda forgot Volks trend to change the final product. I know they used to say it, and maybe they still do. But isn't there always a warnin' that "final product may vary?" Or maybe just my ordering experiences with them (on the SD and DD side) have lead me to always apply this logic.

 

To say I ever expect the exact product from any doll company would be a utter lie. I always expect something to be different. Always. It sucks, yeah, but just means I sell her or change it to how I wanted. It is a bit irritating (cause applying effort is annoying) but is such a simple fix that I guess I just don't get actually getting salty over it.

Liked Sheryl before and after. Ranks still has crazy eyes. She'll cut you if you look at her wrong.

Perhaps since Miku was as advertised, that was my folly in thinking Volks would have Sheryl look like advertised. Other doll companies can have variation on the end product Bc they are usually hand painted faceups - vinyl is done usually via faceplates. If each doll had to be hand painted and it didn't match as advertised ok that's human error - but using a plate, airbrush, plate, airbrush again etc - and yes they probably do have the old verbiage of "final product design may vary"

 

That still doesn't mean one can't be a tad disappointed that you'll have to either try yourself to replicate the original design or pay someone else to, when the price of these gals should mean it comes standard.

 

I'd prefer the term peppery over salty though XD

Just a thought, but isn't that the exact same girl he's had for a long while...? He calls her Sheryl Nome. I don't think she actually is. Unless he's had a Sheryl since October 2014. XD In fact I thought she was a modded Rise or somethin' of the like.

Don't get me wrong, I get why someone would be disappointed, but I'm so jaded and used to molds looking different in person I literally do not react really anymore. XD I just make the note and decide if I wanna bother changing it. So when I see people react I just kinda go, well it sucks, but really are you surprised? XD

Ranko Kanzaki is my favorite example, still surprises me with how different facially she is when you see her in person. (The upperbite is so real x.x)

 

And will always stick with salty. As a gamer, if ya are upset or annoyed, or whatever, you will always be salty. XD

Yeahhhh after the ddh05 thing I should have considered it a possibility... Just she looked so much more unique before (not to say she's ugly now it's the same sculpt but still). They toned down her individuality. I guess I'll try to do the mouth pout myself after piercing her ears. Oh well... thems the ropes you take what they give you for preorders or try try try again for their limiteds.

 

At least from one of the photos it looks like the eyes are big enough to move down a little to remove the Macross eye gap if you desire. So hooray for that!

That's another option I thought of too. I can't tell once you apply a very different face-up and modding into the mix. I wish they just said what their molds were. QQ

I guess I just expected there to be differences because of Volk's clearly stated disclaimer that the final product could be different. The thing that's driving me nuts at the moment isn't the faceup, it's not being able to quite tell what the sculpt is going to be until I have her in my hands.

 

Yes they did change Kos-Mos too, and at the time I thought it was a total deal breaker. Now I can't imagine not having Miss Lottie (Anouc did such a wonderful job on her!) and when I wiped off my original Kos-Mos' faceup off... I can say I've never been more surprised at the sculpt underneath. Needless to say it's now a WIP 45cm boy. So I pretty much don't entirely trust Volk's pics of their sculpts and just wait until I can see it for myself. That's why I also try to answer questions as soon as I can after getting one of the preorder girls and offer my honest opinion. How often have we heard new collectors say that they like _____ DD so much better after they got her? Because there are just some things with the sculpts that are very hard to capture in photos.

 

I don't like feeling somewhat fussy over the sculpt of a girl that I've already bought, especially since my plans for her have changed to a different character. So in some ways I'm not too worried about it since she still looks close enough for what I wanted (might work better than her original photos) but on the other hand struggling with feeling distressed that somehow the changes will make me not like her. I really don't like that feeling. Normally when I get a girl I spend a lot of time analyzing the features before deciding to put the order or preorder in, but now I have to go through the same process after the fact and the worry it generates is frankly unpleasant. So it feels weird being on both sides of the fence about Sheryl. I am looking forward to wiping off those manly brows though.

 

This whole 'last minute' change has me nervous already about Len & Rin. I really, really want Volks to do them right, but at the same time I don't entirely trust them to not do something to screw them up. That would be my first experience with Volks doing a character I actually know whole lot about long before they got their paws on him. I hate to say it, but I've got low expectations and expect to have to fix something. With Volks I've had to take an 'I'll believe it when I see it myself' attitude to their work and Sheryl just reconfirms that feeling.

 

As for Ranka, I've never really liked her eyes. I love the color, but just the 'blank stare' they have is very unnerving. It will be interesting trying to decide on new ones.

If my guess is right, I believe that's a Rise sculpt. The chin is part of what gives it away.

I've stared at youtsuki's girl at lot when I found her.. I desperately wanted to find out what sculpt she was, so I compared a lot of pictures to see what head sculpt she may be and I believe for sure she's Alna. She very beautiful, all youtsuki's girls are drop dead gorgeous.

 

As for Sheryl's face up. I did expect her to look close as can be to what was promo-ed. This I my first time dealing with volks, first time buying a DD, so I never experienced their face up changes. I understand BJD's face up not looked the same, but I figured volks does their face up a different way than bjds get theirs. So I don't get why they would have to change her face up.

Looking at some of the other shots, I think you're right; Rise has nostrils, and few other girls besides Alna and Sheryl have that combination of the long nose and full lips. Although, looking at the eye shape, it may very well be a *modded* Alna.

Cause he's had the exact same girl since october '14. I showed a image of her from before and I'm pretty damn sure it the same one? Plus like...the Japanese symbol on the "()" part says false which makes me think it isn't actually Sheryl.

Ranka is extremely cute without the crazy eyes, and I like the original Sheryl's lips better.

I also like Sheryl's lips more now. Her original mouth was open in a way that made her look kind of dazed IMO. This looks more like the self-assured, confident expression I'd expect from Sheryl.

 

I'm glad to see that different eyes get rid of Ranka's yandere look. I purchased a pair of WDS E-types in Ruby for her since they look similar to her original eyes, but they're cuter, livelier, and non-crazy.

It looks like Sheryl's eye make up is different than the promo as well. Though it's not that noticeable.

It also seems like Ranka's eye make up is slightly different. Ranka's "eyelashes" seem slightly different to me.

It does look like now with being a closer look that that is painted on. I guess i can try and mimic it if they have changed it, Im not sure about her eyebrows. I didnt realize how.....weirdly outlined they were (alot of times the wig covered the look of them, but i can change them if i cant stand them) Her lips also dont look as glossy on the top part as the promos. I dont know again its waiting for to get here and waiting for other pictures too.

Hmm...I can't say I'm thrilled with the change in the lip painting for Sheryl but I guess with a little enhancing that can be fixed. Stinks though because I really like the promo look. Oh well, Sheryl is really lovely and I am still excited that I ordered her.

Personally, I can't wait to see custom faceups on both--but especially Sheryl.

Its probably just me, but Ranka's nose looks way too close to her mouth. Sheryl's is a more normal distance.
