Miiiiinecraft!

In the highly unlikely event that anyone else plays Minecraft, I thought it would be cool to start a thread about it! Perhaps you'd even like to come and play on our server someday (waiting for the adventure update)

 

For those of you unfamiliar, Minecraft is an amazing open world game (also called a sandbox game, meaning you govern your own creations) in which you can create the world, buildings, and everything else you want to see before you. I'm not talking about programming, no, you actually hunt for resources in the world and use a crafting table to create elements you then use to build houses, libraries- anything you can possible imagine. There is a catch though... at night the monsters come out and you have to defend your life!

 

Here's the dev explanation: "Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens."

 

Basically Minecraft= lego+rpg

 

I realize now this game concept is difficult to explain but it is a whole lot of fun and there is a free version if you'd like to try it. *^^* IT IS SO MUCH FUN.

I do not play, but I love seeing pictures of what other players create in this game. ^^ Maybe someday I will try it.

I hope you do try it! It's so much fun and the landscape auto generates- you never know if you're heading into a desert, woodland forest or the tundra... sometimes there is even lava or a volcano! I know it sounds like an odd thing to geek out about but it's so diverse and you can make a map and boat and just sail out and see all the impressive landscapes!

 

It's also not taxing for your CPU -mac or windows OS- which is an added bonus. ^^

I've been playing for about a year now but have recently stopped. My Japanese house beside my waterfall is still missing doors and windows. LOL

I am kind of a scardy-cat so I always set it on easy or peaceful. I hate those creepers >^>

Sometimes they scare me so badly I actually scream out loud followed by a long chain of obscenities. I guess I get so focused on building that I forget about the dangers....

They aren't as scary as those spiders. They always manage to make me throw my laptop across the room.

 

Totally! Now they have poison spiders which are smaller and faster..... they are REALLY ANNOYING.

I tend to play for a few weeks then go away from the game for a while, come back and play again. What I find most amazing are the mods for the game. Some of my co-workers are really into the Build Craft mod right now - making huge automated mining systems. The Equivalent Exchange mod also looks very cool.

There are some very informational ones but most of all they are just incredibly funny.

Yay! Minecraft is awesome!

I still play it quite a bit though I'm starting to finally get burned out from it so I don't play it as often anymore. But I always roll a new survival world when a new update comes out, just so I can see what's new and see if I can come with any other crazy structure ideas. xD

Yes! I'm another person who tends to get bored with it for a while and not play for a few weeks, then come back and just binge on it for a weekend or so. I'm very hooked on a few Let's Play videos on Youtube right now. Joe Hills, Zisteau, and the HatVentures guys are my favorites.

 

I think my favorite thing is playing through custom maps that people have made. Although with this new adventure update (or updates?) a lot is changing so those maps might not play the same anymore (stupid fog at lower altitude making everything impossible to see), but still. When I get bored of building a my own village, I download a custom map and play through that.

 

It would be cool to make dollfie sized minecraft items I think. A little workbench and pickaxe and such. And then a little chest to store it all in too!

.... I just want to say.... you're all horrible enablers!

 

I got minecraft to see what the fuss was about.. and haven't stopped playing it for the last few days.. building myself a little village...

Well, I checked the rules and it seems alright to post in old topics? It implied I had to give proper content so I hope this is right ^^.

 

Anyways, I've been playing Minecraft since Alpha and still enjoying it strongly, if not more so than when I started. Loving how you can build whatever you want, when you want with whatever block you desire. I can still remember each and every settlement I had fondly while building as big as I can, now having my own server hosted heh.

 

Anybody here using the FTB Mod-pack? You guys (or gals) linked BlueXephos, while I see that and up it with Feed The Beast which adds many more mods than Tekkit. That launcher has so many neat quality mod-packs to choose from that Minecraft is taken to a whole new level. Check out Direwolf20's videos if curious. Also currently using the Mindcrack pack and let me just say that my days are just draining away with my Shinki gals crying for more attention. They're even observing me occasionally heh.

 

Currently playing with Traincraft, Industrialcraft, Twilight and Xycraft mods so far in the Mindcrack mod pack. Got myself a nice railway network going along with (re-)building my capital city - Arcticu City. So much to build in so little time! For those reading this willing to have their time leeched will find themselves forever lost heh. I'm also the kind of player that builds 99% in survival. Minecraft is funner that way and gives you actual purpose.

Isn't there a mod out now that turns creepers into moe girls in a weird dating sim environment?

Ya, all the mobs (non-modded) get their own lines and can be befriended or scared away heh. Quite a nice touch I must say. I like the idea but it still looks and feels incomplete all around. You can customize what they say though which is nice. Haven't used it though.
