LordNoir Posted September 14, 2011 I've been curious about this for awhile, is it safe to have a DD in water? I would imagine so long as the face remained above water to avoid possibly smudging a face-up it would be alright. I've read discussions about such things with resin dolls, and typically most agree it's alright so long as the elastic is dried out well after. Since DDs do not have elastic, I'm going to assume that it's alright to do so, but I so far have very little experience with DDs in general so I can't be certain. Galvatim Posted September 14, 2011 It's mostly safe, as long as you allow ever part to thoroughly dry afterwards. Which may mean disassembly. Otherwise, you could get mold growth inside of the vinyl skin parts.
XOHimitsuOX Posted September 14, 2011 For me, only if it's very clean water (i.e. tap water). But i would avoid water, I don't like taking apart my girls too often. So much hassle cleaning & drying them. The only part i worry about is water getting in to the feet.
baldylox Posted September 14, 2011 Personally, I wouldn't put my girls into ANY water past their knees in a standing position. Not only do I fear mold, mildew or other things trying to grow inside the nice vinyl interiors, I worry about the screws inside rusting and causing problems with joints. I don't think there are any screws below the knees on the DDII bodies and above so that's why I say that as a line to draw for me. I also don't enjoy taking my girls apart often because I don't want excessive wear and tear on them. I fear their heads getting looser as the main issue there. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
dreamcore Posted September 15, 2011 All the water out here is salt water, and I would NEVER take one of my girls near salt water. I'm sure just the mist in the air could cause damage to the faceup!

I've taken Manami to the beach and she has suffered no damage from it. She didn't go into the water but she got quite sandy. All I did was clean her thoroughly when I got home and she has been just fine. So don't worry about the faceup quite so much, as long as she isn't faceplanting in the sand every 5 minutes or doing some snorkeling, I think you will be just fine. Just make sure to wipe your girl down with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser afterwards and things should be okay. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Those screws will totally rust.

Billy Couldn't the salt water break down the paint somewhat, and then wiping her face down cause it to come off or deteriorate?
baldylox Posted September 16, 2011 Couldn't the salt water break down the paint somewhat, and then wiping her face down cause it to come off or deteriorate? I'm sure over many, MANY repeated visits it could. BUT, NEVER use the Magic Eraser on a DD faceup! It alone could cause some of the clear to come off or even paint if scrubbed hard enuff. I just used a soft, damp towel to wipe her face off. Everything else got the Eraser. And if we are talking about the Volks default faceups, I think those are sealed even better than customs so I wouldn't worry as much about those. But here again, don't use the Magic Eraser on a faceup.... just to be safe. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Tsubasa126 Posted September 17, 2011 Hmm, water pics are tempting~. I might do a water photo shoot someday (^^) But I believe its safe to do water pics as long as you clean, wipe, and dry them.

I was thinking of getting a kiddie pool for a summer swimsuit photoshoot, since I actually tend to have a decent amount of swimsuit material on hand ( because it makes awesome bodysuits.) Suzuna Posted September 30, 2011 I say YAY! Water pictures are lovely, and it's not hard to fully dry your girl out - though it does involve her being naked and a hairdryer.

mitsuki Posted September 30, 2011 Silicon bodies are supposed to be able to go in water. I heard it is part of their maintenance even.
