starkitty Posted October 28, 2014 So Mirai arrived. Poor girl, after the long flight form Japan to JFK she had to spend 3 days in the Post Office. She recovered and we are getting along well. However, being new at this ... I have a few questions for the experienced owners that can help us. Being a good Japanese girl, Mirai does not want to put shoes on inside the house. As others have noted the supplied shoes are tight. I do not want to break her foot. Any suggestions or tricks to safely put tight shoes on ? The jeans are tight also, and the inside of the metal snap left an indentation mark on her belly. I was able make it go away by heating the area with a hair dryer, Can I avoid this by putting some kind of tape on inside of the jeans? or on Mirai's belly. Danny Choo suggests using blue tac to hold the wig in place. Can this damage the wig ? Is there a better way ? I would think any experiences with Dollfie Dreams or Smart Doll would be applicable. I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks in advance starkitty
jadepixel Posted October 28, 2014 Congrats on getting Mirai! I do have a tip for the shoes - the upper part is flexible and has a good bit of give. You can put pressure and lift the upper to slide the top of the foot as far in as possible. Then, squeeze the base of the heel (by the sole) so that the upper part of the heel balloons out a bit, and shimmy Mirai's heel inside. Or, you could invest in some very thin socks, I think part of the issue is the extra width from sock fabric. I've also heard of some BJD fans making a shoehorn from certain toothbrush accessories, there's a thread on DoA somewhere. Myself I'm thinking of sanding down her toes a bit... sorry Mirai ^_^; For keeping the wig in place, blue tack will work but I think it's safer and cleaner to use a non-colored material. Volks sells a 'pittato ring' that should work, or you can get a silicon headcap from Cool Cat Collection. Either will only run you a few bucks. I had the same issue with the jeans, and I don't know a good solution. I just haven't let Mirai wear them for extended periods :/ jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

Eiko82 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thought Mirai's jeans were supertight. I struggled a bit to get them on. Luckily, they have not dented her body so far tho now you do have me a bit worried about that. As for the shoes, Danny told me that he made them so tight to avoid them falling off whilst you're carrying your girl around. I haven't had too much trouble putting the shoes tho I tend to apply a bit of pressure on the heel and ankle to push the foot in the shoe. yLLiS Posted December 13, 2014 Since this is a question for SmartDolls I figured I could put it here... I just got a Kizuna (yay early Christmas gift from my husband, he even ordered it on his own too!) I find her head is loose, any suggestions on how to fix that (otherwise I absolutely love her!)? Eiko82 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) Could it be that her frame isn't in the correct position? I noticed this with my Mirai as well in the beginning. If her shoulder blades are pointed up, then her head is wobbly. If it's pointing down (as it does in the below photo), then her head stays on securely. The shoulder blades tend to rotate up if you move her arms. You can check this by peeking under her boobs. I hope that my explanation made sense >___< Smart Doll by Danny Choo, on Flickr Edited December 14, 2014 by Guest Living at my place: Rise (DD Rise Kujikawa), Chie (Smart Doll Mirai) and Aisha (Smart Doll Kurenai)
Cauldroness Posted December 13, 2014 I think if the shoulder blades are pointing down (screws face the front of her body), then her chest piece is allowed to drop lower on her torso, and you lose the friction needed between her head and her neck to keep her from becoming bobble-headed. If the shoulder blades are pointing up (screws face the back of her body), her chest and neck are lifted higher, giving her head better support. Also, if you remove her head, there's a tiny clear plastic tube around the neck peg. Sometimes it gets smashed down around the round bump under the neck peg. If you gently pull it back up before putting her head back, it seems to help, too. Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram!
yLLiS Posted December 14, 2014 One shoulder was each way but I put them the proper way and readjusted the clear tube piece and it worked like a charm! Thank you so much!
