tutubryan Posted December 8, 2014 So i just gotten a Saber alter V2 DD and i have been reading on the forums and other website's that black clothes stains really easily. My first question is how will the stain affect the doll will it destroy the doll completely or it's just stains and it's an eyesore. Second question is i don't plan on changing the outfit ever for this saber i am just going to dress it up and place it nicely in my display box and look at her everyday without taking her out, will this affect her in anyway? and do i still need to check for stains because the stains are only inside the doll and not on the outside right? Lastly the DD don't come with a stand so i would like to ask what stand do you all use for your DD? and which website do you purchase the stand from please share with me the link thanks. need some help and advice guy's thanks again. Minty Posted December 8, 2014 Congrats on receiving your first DD! Not all dark clothing will stain, but it's best to treat all dark clothing as stain causers until you know if it will or won't stain. Volks dark clothing is notorious for staining. The stains won't destroy the doll. It will appear as a dark discolouration on the doll itself and is mainly an eyesore. Keeping her in a dark outfit for long periods of time can cause staining and you'll have to check on her every now and then to see if there is any staining. If you don't mind stains, then you can leave her alone. It's also possible to buy a body stocking for her to protect against staining. The one Volks sells for white skin is currently sold out. :c Rinsing the outfit to remove excess dye could lessen the chance of staining occurring. I've also heard of vinegar being used to set the dye in dark outfits to help prevent staining, however I have never tried that myself and recommend reading up a bit more on it if you wish to try it. Volks and CoolCat both sell stands for DDs. I don't have any stands yet for mine and therefore can't recommend any. ^^; This thread has a lot of information on what causes stains and how they can be removed and I highly recommend browsing through it. It helped me a lot when my first DD got a stain. Saber Alter is a white skin doll, so if she does become stained, and you wish to remove it, you will have to be a bit more careful. Some white skins dolls have developed a yellow or blue/green discolouration after having been treated to remove a stain. I do not own any white-skinned dolls and don't have any first-hand experience of this. If you had to treat her for stains, you could try applying a bit of the cream you're using to the back of her head, spare hand, or an area that won't be easily seen to test whether or not the cream could cause discolouration. sklurk Posted December 8, 2014 you can test the outfit for dye running.. If it's all black and no liner you can just soak it in water and press it between 2 paper towels. I had a red outfit from volks arrive new and the cardboard in the packaging was stained red, but when I tried to set the dye and do a test it was actually the black that ran out of the lace trim rather than the red in the shirt itself. If you're concerned, try wetting different parts of the outfit, like each type of textile used and just press it with paper towels. On the outfit I have, the black bled out in a matter of seconds, also when first immersed in cold water the black dye also bled into the water, tinting it bluish. Jezrah Posted December 8, 2014 Saber Alter's outfit has a huge excess of dye to give it that deep color. I washed mine twice and it could still cause staining by just rubbing against bare doll skin. I don't like how body stockings look with that outfit, because it ruins the look of the bare skin showing on her back, so I lined the inside of the bodice with white tape and also put cling wrap on her arms under her arm covers. However this would only prevent staining for a short time, maybe a few hours, since dye can still leach through cling wrap. If you're always going to display her just in that one outfit it may be easier to just let it go. That's how Volks treats their own display dolls since the staining is under their clothes, so you can't see it unless they wear something different.
