Did you know about DDs before mid-2008? If so...

I didn't get into the doll hobby until about late 2009 so I didn't really know about DD's until late that year when I saw a few photos online. I think this was more to do with the fact that I didn't really have that extensive an internet access back in my old country and though I like anime figures they were mostly out of my price range and priority list. It was only when I came to Canada and got more into the internet that I found Junkyspot and ordered a resin doll off them and became active on their forum that I started with the doll hobby.

It was there that I had seen references made to Dollfie Dreams and on looking further I happened on figure.fm where I saw the EVA girls in custom plugsuits. That did it for me and I discovered Mandarake and ordered my Rei and Mari.

I found out about the resin BJDs around 2006-2007 and may have seen a DD or two in online pictures around that time on lolita and/or anime forums. If I did, I thought they were the same as the resin BJDs until I did more research after joining DoA.

Danny Choo did not introduce me to DDs at all, I didn't even know who he was until a good while after I bought my first resin BJD in 2012.

I found out about Super Dollfies in about 2006 through watching a series called Japanorama.

Here's the episode, the first bit is about Hina dolls.

I'm into DDs since the very beginning. I used to visit Volks webpage from time to time because I wanted a Sinsiya or a Misia (that were their more DD like facemold at that moment). Then DDs appeared, they produced the first edition of Mirai and Candy but they were only sold inside Japan. I wrote them to ask if they could ship worldwide, but they told me that they couldn't and, as the dolls were also limited, they were sold out.

Some time after that they took out the first DD body, which came with a blank with no eyeholes head and the DD-H01 head. I ordered one the same day they put them for sale. I got her on December 2003 and I still keep her invoice. It was the first time I had such a big doll on my hands and I was a little afraid about breaking her. I still keep that doll with the DDI body she came with (you can see her in my family album, she is Mimiko).

BTW, I was able to get both Mirai and Candy when they sold the second version to celebrate the DDII body release in 2005.

I think I found out about them in 2006, on Gaia Online (which I was really into at that time). But I was only about 14 at that time, so there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell of me affording one.

At home: DDH-09 (Ryoko), blue DDH-01 MDD (Aoko), DDH-02 MDD (Hikaru)

I joined DoA in 2006, and I ran across the occasional mention, and saw them on Volks USA when I went there to order MSC. I wasn't interested in DDs, though, so it it was actually a couple years before I actually understood what the difference was between DDs and resin.

I physically wouldn't have ever ordered my first girl at all, except for my friend who asked me to faceup one of hers. So I bought myself a practice head.
