Did you know about DDs before mid-2008? If so...

I learned about DDs in 2006-7, I didn't know about Danny Choo and Mirai until about 2012.

I just learned about BJDs and while researching SDs I found out about dollfies and dollfie dreams.

I knew about them in late 2006 and onward. I didn't get into DDs until the MDDs, because I didn't really like big dolls at that time. MDDs are damn addictive though and afer talking myself into one DDS, suddenly I had two DDS and one DDI.

I knew about them since 2001-2, I think but I wasn't interested in their molds. I was obsessing over a Luts Lishe. A couple years ago I decided I wanted to make a custom Sailor Jupiter and that's what brought me back into my doll collecting. There were so many girls by then I was happy to start collecting them again!

It could have been then.

I just remember there was only Candy and Mirai. They also only had a few resin girls then. Most of the models had the same face but with different eyes/hair. I thought it had been a little earlier than 03 but I'm definitely not sure.

It was just so long ago that I remember using aol as a browser with a translator and getting kicked off the internet. With that annoying dial up sound. Den of angels was also only a Yahoo group at that time.

I feel old now haha

Yes, I found out about them between 2003-04 while poking around on the Volks Japan website. In 2005 I was able to get a DD Sirius head off ebay, and later that year got a DD2 body. I'm pretty sure the store I got the body from is the same one mitsuki mentioned. I remember at the time they were the only authorized Volks dealer in the US

I ordered from this store too! I bought a bunch of 1/6 bodies and heads...back when Volks had a selection

It's funny how far doll collecting has come since then. Things are so much more accessible. I remember searching on ebay and being excited when there were 30 things to buy instead of 20 haha.

I also had to use a proxy to buy from Volks then.

I do miss them having more of a 1/6 selection though.

I'm not so sure, but I'm pretty sure around 2006 is when I heard of DD. I was already observing ABJD and DD just kinda came into sights after that. I didn't take a personal interest into them till like 2009~10. I was late to the party. XD

I did know about them before 2008 but I was/am a hobbyist and a collector so it made sense being in such close proximity with everything else I do. I remember being amazed that there was a thriving market for such a product and then I became part of it! I was warned at the time they are addictive and here I am... still buying DDs.

I was into BJDs when I was 13 years old around...2005, in fact the first doll I saw at a convention was a dollfie dream, The collector didn't want me to know what her doll was, and lied saying she made her herself, lol. (it was one of the dollfie dreams with their eyes painted on, like when volks only sold the bodies with the blank heads with no eye holes) I couldn't get the doll out of my mind when I got home so I google searched "big anime dolls" It lead me to volks and doll owner sites, then later on I found Den of angels and learned about DDs though, ^^ I got side tracked to resin dolls at first.

I think he started doing his thing right as Volks really stepped up their game. Those early DD dont look nearly as good as 2009 and up. Volks makes quality work and they was bound to catch on. DD is about the only doll ever posted right alongside figures on myfigurecollection and nobody minds. Most figure collectors like them/want them. They are kinda their own thing.

I read about "Dollfies" in a book so I googled "Dollfie" and found Dollfie Dream dolls (lol). Funny thing though is that the book was talking about Super Dollfie and BJD, not DDs, but back then I didn't know that.

They may not have been DDs, but I was introduced to something similar somewhere between 1999 and 2001. I was just getting into PVC anime character figures at the time, and I ran across a site with pictures of BJDs very similar in looks to DDs. I don't know what scale they were, as it was difficult to tell. What made them stick in my mind were the outfits they were wearing. About half of them were dressed in sexy lingerie or BDSM outfits. And they all had totally ludicrous boobage.

I was kinda like... O... K... But the dolls did look attractive.

I may have encountered these types of dolls again in the years before 2008, but I honestly don't recall. If I did, then none of them made an impression at the time.

If I saw any others, I didn't know they were DDs until about 2010 or 2011. There was a poster on my favorite videogame forum who would post pictures of his dolls. A picture of a Yukino holding an Atari 2600 Pac-Man cart seared itself into my memory and started me down the path to learning about these dolls. I don't think I learned about the DD Saber Lily until after that. And it was a combination of Saber Lily, Kos-Mos, and Momo which set me on a course to really wanting a DD. So that would probably have been 2012 or 2013.

I found out about them through the resin BJD hobby. My first doll was a Volks assembly kit, and back when Candy and Mirai came out, Volks was sending pamphlets with every doll to advertise the new line. That's when I first saw them.

I didn't have much interest in DD until the Da Capo ones were released, then I knew I'd eventually want to get one. I didn't end up getting my first Dollfie Dream until late 2006, though.

I got my first Dollfie Dream in what must have been 2004 or 2005. Photobucket doesn't display dates photos were uploaded any more, but pretty sure these hideous photos I've found are from then.

It was the weird strung body and I had a blank no eyehole head that i tried to cut eyes into. All her clothes were scraps of fabric made into tube tops. So horrid.

I got a DD1 back in 2004ish. I really loved anime dolls, and thought super dollfies were beautiful but impossible for me price wise. Then when Dollfie Dreams came out, I was in heaven. A giant super dollfie sized anime doll? Yes please! I ended up selling it in later years in favor of a DD2, and then had to sell that one. Now that I don't have a revolving door doll collection anymore, I'm looking forward to adding a Dollfie Dream to my collection again!

I knew about DD's at that time an a couple of years before that. But I did not like and do still not like the older versions of the dolls and heads. I really think the DD line has improved a lot! At least for my taste.

All my friends that were interested in dolls only went with resin bjd's. And as I myself have had to many expensive hobbies over the years (Lolita, figures, gaming and cosplay) I have tried to keep my interest for the dolls at a minimum. But now I have gotten my first DD and I'm hooked ^^'

Long time lurker, here I am!

During 2008 I already started researching on BJDs and stuff, but that is also the time that I'm still afraid of doing international online transactions, especially big, expensive ones. I can't even remember if I already had a Paypal account that time. Coincidentally, that year is also the time when Rei Ayanami French Maid ver. is to be released online (Volks Dolls Party Osaka 5 Aug 2008, based on what I've researched so far). I was more concerned getting scammed online, so sadly I have to pass on Rei, and I was left ogling at the screen for hours, going back and forth on the pages I have already seen. That gave me a hard lesson on limited items though, because when I already gathered the courage years after, I found out that it is not being sold anymore. (I was able to buy one eventually but for around +30% aftermarket price.)

I got involved in BJDs for quite a while and then stumbled on Danny Choo's website. But back then I was looking at the anime figures he reviews, and eventually the Dollfie Dreams got featured, then snowballed effect from there. I think Danny Choo gave it plenty of exposure, which caused Saber prices to skyrocket. I don't blame him for it though, as popular items are bound to get expensive as demand goes up, but he is one of the great enablers to entice skeptics to join the DD hobby. Also, there is a solid Fate stay night fanbase, so that might also be a factor. (I myself has plans to get a Saber Alter someday.)

I found out about DDs until last year (I'm a DD newbie) but didn't get interested in them until this year when I realized that I could customize them (ie. turn them into boys since I collect male dolls mainly ) and I love them now.

I saw DDs for the first time on Den of angels.

I found out about DDs around 2007 when a BJD friend mentioned them to me. I wasn't interested until Rin came out in 2009 though.
