Realistic Face up

Recommended Posts

Hello

My DDH-07 in sws arrived last week and I am soooooo happy with it, but now my girl needs a Face up. I looked up all artists listed here and on DOA, but I can't really find someone, who ever did, what I want for my girl. Maybe you could help me.

I don't want a typical DD FU for my girl. She should have a realistic one with freckles and liver spots and all that stuff. I saw Face ups like that on the threads of many BJD artists, but can I ask them to paint my girl, even though they normally paint resin and not vinyl. As it is my first doll ever I am pretty unsure about that. I saw there were some differences in work... What do you think?

Or do you know a DD artist, who is capable of extremely realistic faces? Cos I want my girl to look like if anime girls could be real I hope, you understand, what I mean....

Thank you all!

I'd say this is your best bet - just ask them!

Many of those artists list what type of dolls they're willing to paint and some also accept Monster Highs, so DDs shouldn't be far off.

And even if some of them decline; since there are a lot of artists that specialize in realistic face-ups I'm sure you'll find one who's willing to paint your girl!

I think that standard head molds of DDs are a bit too manga to be "transformed" in realistical- anime like- girls, they lack of many little and less little particulars sculpted that make them hard to resemble realistical faces , or even just vaguely realistical (for example the nose, the eyes dimension and shape, and the shape of the face itself) even with a realistical faceup on (i found also pretty difficult to find realistical eyes in 22 and 24 mm , and too little eyes make those girls look a bit "psychotic" ) .

I found out this myself trying to achieve a more realistical-hybrid like for my girls, since i'm not a great fan of anime look, and the only one which worked better (between the heads i saw in real life and own) was Alna sculpt i luckly own (i wish i could get my hands on a Rise head to paint, since it's probably the most realistical mold of all DD) as you can see there http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10268#p148275 and there http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=11514, those are the results, but also i didn't want a 100% bjd look since many bjd faceups ,for me that i'm an illustrator, seem really too fake, too artificious, real people it's not that full of make up , with enormous amount of eyeshadows , blush etc

Apart me i remember only Syu_Akagi here on the community interested in having a realistical DD and tried an experiment (didn't mention the face up artist name though, you can ask maybe with a pm ) making three 07 girls faceupped with realistical style as you can see , this is the result

Here is mine girls, all of them are DDH-07 head with SD or BJD eyes.

image.php?album_id=210&image_id=1042

However i have seen some bjd faceupper work on DD on facebook groups etc but the result for me was far from being good, in my opinion the match between DD standard heads and realistical faceup doesn't work in most cases sincerely (even if i haven't given up on the idea of the hybrid look) , but i would give it a try if i was you, i haven't had the occasion to try something similar on a 07 (Volks restock probs mainly) , i think that asking is not a crime , obviously you need to find someone who has equipment and will to work on a vynil head (since not all sealant for resin works on vynil)

if I remember correctly, littlebearries Alnas were painted by a BJD Artist, maybe you could ask which one it was if you like their face-up.

I'm sure that most BJD artists would be happy to paint a DD. It's a lot of fun! So I think if you asked, many of them will be glad to try as long as you accept that it's not their usual territory so the results may be mixed. Off the top of my head, here are some BJD face-up artists that I know have painted anime-styled heads before:

Well i think that being Elektroeule idea to make a DD being painted in a very realistical style they would be more in their "element" than painting in anime style I think like Chien that many bjd faceupper would be interested in trying , if they have right sealant for vynil obviously Between interesting artists i have bookmarked some of them

I wrote ClockworkAngel somedays ago. I hope, she'll answer soon. Her work is beautiful, but I also like navci and elisa_maza now. Thanks!

Now, I have three more people to ask! Great!

Please note that jointedlove is a very in-demand artist and can be hard to commission because she's so popular. You have to wait until she opens slots via her official shop; she won't take commissions via email. Here's the info: http://jointedlove.blogspot.com/p/faceup-faq.html

Gorgeous girl indeed , i wish there were more molds like Rise (apart Alna and Kosmos) , surely it's the best DD mold to be faceupped realistically

Thank you ! I'm excited to get her back! I enjoyed the first faceup, but I wanted a new one that was more neutral! I agree...more Rise-like molds please!

Wow, both faceups are absolutely stunning. I should look into getting this done myself at some point. Congratulations with the upcoming new look!
