Conuresans Posted December 20, 2014 You guys can call me Cleo, since a lot of people seem to do that online. I'm semi-new to the topic, but I haven't exactly gotten my first DD yet. What I'm hoping for is to save up and get DD Miku as my first one, despite the price and LE status. Since I saw someone else mention it in another thread here in intros, I might as well mention it. I'm also going to order my very first bjd later this week-- Christmas day actually, since it's my Christmas gift. So hopefully through that I can get some experience on certain aspects of owning a DD, because I've never had a doll that size before. Welp, hopefully I can make at least one or two friends on here and learn more about Dollfies! Minty Posted December 21, 2014 Hello, Cleo! Welcome to the forums! ^_^ Miku is a great choice! ...although I'm a little biased towards her. ^^; She's the one that dragged me into the world of DDs. Miku was a pre-order doll, which is different than the lottery dolls, so there's a lot more of her around than most LE dolls. Eventually there should be many of her around in the secondary market, which will make her easy to find and potentially keep her aftermarket prices from going up to crazy amounts. There's still so many that haven't even been sent out yet and those ones could potentially pop up for sale. Congrats on your first BJD! That's a really awesome Christmas present. :3 I started out with BJDs before I got into DDs. They will help you with the size, but there are some differences - the most noticeable being the weight! Once you do get your first DD, you'll find that she's much lighter than your BJD. There's other differences besides that, but there are many helpful threads here that will help guide you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Yeah, I'm also kinda biased on Miku because I'm a fan of her stuff and I tend to be obsessive about things at times when I find them and impulsive buying kicks in... vv; But hopefully DDs and bjds will help with that since I have to save a while to get one. Funny enough, Monster High basically dragged me into bjds, which lead me to DD not too much later. And really? Hopefully it goes like that, but then again there's a hype over her now so it might spike up with more Vocaloid fans finding out she's been turned into a doll form. But then again, I think I have a bit of an advantage since I also have a DoA account and am close to MP access. Thanks, the one I'm getting (Mirodoll Wind) is really pretty and I think I've decided on what I want her to look like. Also, Is there something I should know or tips about stringing them? I'm kinda scared of stringing because I don't really wanna hurt myself on it. Or basically tips to know in general? I'm kinda scared of stringing because I don't really wanna hurt myself on it. Or basically tips to know in general? There's so much Miku merchandise that I limit myself to just nendoroids of her. There are so many of those too though. I didn't think they would make so many of her. orz DDs might get me into Monster High dolls, or at least their clothing anyway, if those rumours about 50cm tall MH dolls coming out next year is true. I like the clothing of the MH dolls and it would be neat to be able to get some in Dollfie size. Except 50cm is actually smaller than the height of DDs, so the clothes might not fit. ;_; But if the shoes were to fit... I think there are still a few Miku for sale in the marketplace here. They were posted some time ago, but I don't think all of them have been bought yet. They would (probably) be cheaper here than eBay. Mirodoll Wind is very pretty! And wow! She is available in so many different colours! DoA has a small guide on restringing with links to tutorials. X If your doll arrives and is very floppy, can't stand, hold a pose, etc. It would be best to restring her - you don't have to restring her right away. Wait until you feel ready to do so! If you like the tension she has, then leave her! If restringing her doesn't help, there's the option to hot glue suede. That thread has information on that as well. I don't have the proper tools for restringing, so it might be worth looking into getting some or improvising. I've always used the wire from Apple earbuds I had, since I don't use earbuds; I cut the earbuds off and used the rest. It actually works pretty well for looping into the elastic and it means I haven't stabbed myself. I don't have clamps to hold the elastic in place, instead I always inserted pencils or pens into the loop to hold the elastic in place while I hook on a foot or hand. Also keep track of which body parts go where otherwise you may have a left leg where the right leg should be.
Conuresans Posted December 21, 2014 I don't have a nendo or figma of her...Not yet, at least. I do have a figma from Madoka Magica though. I heard about those rumors, and oh my cheese-its if they made one of Cleo... Augh, that'd be so pretty! And if they put in glass eyes, I think I'd be crying. Also, now that you mention it, what's the average height of a Dollfie? 60cm? If there are still Mikus for sale in the mp here, I'm going to extensively look into the seller's feedback, see if it comes with everything and all that jazz because I don't want my emotions to get all giddy and happy only to find that I got scammed. That, and I'm kinda tweaky about giving my personal info to people on the internet, so there's that too. But first, I need to gain access to the MP before I think about all that... But it's nice to know about that! ^^ Thank you for the tip! I know right? I can't wait to see her in person and get her all dressed up~ The best part is: There aren't any wait times usually! xD Thanks for the links, I have them bookmarked now. And if she does arrive floppy, I'd probably have her be sitting on a shelf until I felt prepared like you said. Yeah, I might look into tools. I think I saw one last night while I was wig-hunting(The one I wanted most was on etsy and sold out and I had no clue who to look at for wigs). As for keeping track, I'll probably lay out the parts like it's a blue print and not touch anything until I need to string it back on another part. Minty Posted December 22, 2014 Dollfie Dreams are 60cm and Dollfie Dream Sisters are 55cm. It's also likely that the MH 50cm dolls will be a lot thinner than DDs. :c I have yet to participate in the marketplace here. One day, when the exchange rate is better I'll dive in. Although the exchange rate for yen is just fine. Some, here, were selling their Mikus for what they paid for her as they just wanted to get rid of their pre-order. There might be some wait times as this is one of the busiest times of the year for BJD companies due to the events they offer, which increases sales and gives them more to work on. For wigs, I like Leekeworld and Luts. Leekeworld has their winter limited colours up for pre-order right now. Both might also have tools in stock as they sell more than just wigs. Conuresans Posted December 23, 2014 Ah, that makes sense! ^^ Also, sorry for the late reply. It'd be likely MH would be a lot thinner, seeing that their thin in all their merch. :/ I looked around a bit for Mikus but forgot how to use Yahoo! Japan Auctions, so that probably is a downside unless I find someone who'd be willing to shop there and buy for me... Actually, I just now remembered I have a few family members that I know speak Japanese and English, so maybe I could ask them to do the dirty work there. With a small payment, of course. True, I should probably ask what the wait time looks like right now for Miro so I have an idea on how long I should expect to wait at least since I plan on ordering tools, a dress, shoes + extra feet and a faceup, which will most likely make it a bit longer so they can toss it all together. More patience practice, yay. And I just remembered DDE last night and looked at their wigs. I found a few I might put her in, and even decided on what eyes to pick up from ersa flora, if I don't go for the random pair sale (If that's still going). And DDE also happens to have eye putty, wig gel and other tools, so I'll probably be ordering from them too. Minty Posted December 26, 2014 No worries! My reply is very late too. orz I'm sorry! Mandarake had Miku's head yesterday for 40,000 yen. I thought that was a bit much for her head (it was stained too), but it sold! ._. I have yet to try YJA out yet. Because of having to go through proxies and such, I'm a bit nervous to try it. ^^; I have this link bookmarked for it and may be of some help. You're fortunate that you would have someone to help with translating! There's also buyee on YJA, and that's good for viewing listings in English. If Miro doesn't typically have wait times, than I don't think their wait time (if they have one) will be too bad. It could be a month or two? I've heard DDE is good to order from. Sticky tack and silicone ear plugs also work well as eye putty. Ersa Flora has so many nice eyes. They also accept custom orders, which is bad for the wallet. :p Which eyes are you thinking of getting?
Conuresans Posted December 26, 2014 lol yeah I saw that too! My mom had to borrow the computer and I happened to have that tab open... She thought it was creepy even before I told her how much usd it would cost. xD We both thought that was just a little ridiculous seeing how she's being sold second hand, fullset in other places for 800 right now. And about that... Apparently, I got the languages mixed up and I know someone who speaks Chinese instead. My sister and grandma have friends who do though, but I'm too scared to ask either to either of them to ask their friend to do me a favor on that. I'll have to try Buyee at some time though if I don't get the courage to ask, maybe I'll use it to pick up some more casual clothes for my bjd when she comes in. I've never ordered anything directly overseas, so I don't know what proxies are... :/ I've also heard their good and their close too so I don't have as long a wait as others do. I can't quite post links yet because of my post amounts, but I was thinking of getting the random pair deal if its still going orrr no pupil-opal blue. For some reason, I like no pupils a lot.
