Any bird owners?

I saw the thread on dogs and cats and got curious on if there were any bird owners here... I don't quite have one myself yet, but my dad's supposed to buy me one soon. Although, he says I'm getting a Quaker and I do like them, but I don't know if that's the perfect choice for me. I want a playful, snugly bird that doesn't have a big beak, isn't gonna make me jump every time it squawks, or is too big. (And I've mentioned many times to him I don't want a macaw or something similar to it, since I know they have what I listed I don't want.) And my family doesn't want a tiny bird either. I've done my research, and a lot of it, but I'm still not sure. And I've had tons of experience with living with birds like that and I've enjoyed it a lot. Heck, my favorite was a quaker from the ones I remember my parents owning. Does a quaker fit the bill or is there a species that better fits what I'm after?
