Chihaya Kisaragi Posted January 7, 2015 Hi, I've been facing a little difficulty lately in deciding weather or not to invest in a smart doll to add to my DDS's. The main problem I'm thinking of is that in Europe there is import tax for goods sent from outside the European Union over £15, and is usually a hefty price. I was thinking if the Smart Doll has income tax, it would probably add about £100-£200 to the price, if not more? I was wondering if anyone from Europe has had experience with import tax when buying their Smart Doll, as I can't find a contact email for Danny Choo to ask directly. If it helps any, I live in England. Thankyou for any help you can give!

Mysha Posted January 11, 2015 Have you seen this online dutycalculator ? (import duty and tax calculation) Not sure whether it's 100% correct, but the results seem reasonable to me. waha Posted January 11, 2015 Generally you're going to pay your sales tax/VAT + handling charges, plus sometimes a customs fee percentage, depends on what goods it is. The current VAT in the UK is 20% so expect at least that plus some more.
annamarie Posted January 15, 2015 My Mirai came from Youpla in France .... so i didn't get caught with the import duties. I've had several other of my girls that i have had to pay the charges on though. .. and i can tell you that it largely depends on what the declared costs are on the customs label. also depends on weather the customs officers read the declared costs as dollars or pounds, .. we all know that $499.00 is cheaper than £499.00 but it would appear the customs office gets the two mixed up quite often. VAT in the uk at the present is at 20% which doesn't help. annamarie. xx
Youpla Posted January 16, 2015 Hey ! I can help ! Mine (I'm France based) comes with around 85€ custom taxes (30 000jpy on package ! thanks Danny !) But when you order her, you can choose how much you want to mark on package. (I wrote nothing and it was marked 30 000jpy)
Sariachan Posted January 17, 2015 In the UK, customs fees are 20% (VAT) + whatever your courier charges as a handling fee. If you choose EMS shipping, Parcelforce are usually the group delivering, and their fees are either £8 or £13.50. So for example if you ordered something valued at £390, dividing it by 5 gives you the 20% = so £78. Add the handling fee to that (I usually stick with estimating it'll be £13.50), makes the total £91.50 - which would be the total fees to pay. If the item is marked as a gift and a much lower price, there is a chance you won't have to pay any fees, or the fees will be much much lower. ||T-shirts||Twitter||MyFigureCollection||Flickr||

I would rather have the choice to buy the Sm doll boy body by its self so the customs is lower.
bababaloo Posted April 8, 2015 You can ask Danny to send the Smartdoll declared at 20,000 JPY (at lowest). Which I did so I paid less customs taxes for my Kizuna when she arrived.

Chihaya Kisaragi Posted May 31, 2015 Just a quick update on this; I remember seeing Danny posting on his Facebook that he would mark the doll at a lower price than what she is worth when shipping, like bababaloo said. He said that it's purpose was for if someone was uncomfortable with their partner knowing just how much they had spent on a doll, but it also provides a great opportunity to avoid customs, too. It makes me a lot more comfortable saving up for a Smart Doll, haha
Chiisekai Posted June 4, 2015 I live in Denmark and received my Smart Doll directly from Danny's shop. I didn't request a specific price and he wrote 20,000 JPY on the package, which really helped a lot! I believe he ships all orders by EMS, so for a country like my own it's almost 100% certain that I'd have to add taxes, but it wasn't that bad due to the markdown of the price. I ended up paying around 60£ extra (taxes in my country are pretty high -.-)

mother of dollfies Posted June 14, 2015 Wow Thanks for the tip . I don't suppose Volks could mark the value lower...
Mysha Posted June 15, 2015 Please remember that underdeclairing may turn against you. When the package get lost or damaged you will be refunded only the amount that was declared, not the real price. - Kizuna [smart Doll] - Isabelle [saber Extra + Obitsu60] - Maya [DDS DDH-06] - Angelica [DD Sakuya] - Kitty [MDD Mariko] - Moonlight [smart Doll] - Emily [DD Miku] - https://annasangels.capsel.org/
Rainbowangel Posted September 8, 2015 mother of dollfies - no, Volks will not mark down (on the customs declaration form) the value of any items sent. They have this written down on the website. This is because it is both technically illegal and because the box will have the Volks label on it which often gives the game away to any customs inspectors. Many customs staff are now familiar with the company and know that their dolls are not cheap. If you get a Dollfie secondhand elsewhere and its in a plain box you may be lucky and escape any fees if the price is marked down low or marked as a gift but it's risky. And as someone has said already if the parcel got lost in the post or badly damaged you wouldn't be able to claim your money back (the full amount you actually paid originally) only the meagre price they've put down on the customs form...ouch!!!! babytarragon Posted September 8, 2015 I know this is an old thread but some of the information is incorrect. Dolls being sent to the UK have a 20% VAT added as standard but they are also liable for an extra 20% as import duty (the import category is 'humanoid doll'). Often I find that they don't charge this extra 20% but its always a risk we have to take in the UK that the tax could be 40%, not 20%.
