My grand total was 77,641 yen!

 

I already went ahead and made the payment, but paypal hasn't sent it through since Volks hasn't processed it yet.

I got my payment request this morning too! Paid it immediately and now I can finally start to get excited about her coming. I've been avidly avoiding thinking about her or imagining what I'll do with her and even avoiding looking at pictures of the ones that have been already released so I didn't burn out.

My shipping cost to Canada was 4700 yen, if that helps at all

Is it just me, or has Volks added quite a few extra fees? The base price for Snow Miku is 65,000 ¥, and my total before shipping and handling was 70,020. I'm not sure I'll be buying anymore DDs, with all these extra fees jacking up the price.

65,000 ¥ is the price without tax? They always anounce the price and add a "(+tax)" to it. When you finish the order you have to pay the handling/paypal fees+shipping and insurance. Nothing really new here @_@

No, it's not new. Doesn't mean I have to like it. Volks only accepts payment via PayPal, those costs should be built in, not yet another fee on top of everything else.

Well, the PayPal charge IS new, in that you used to be able to pay with a credit card directly and not have to pay that fee. Volks recently eliminated that option, so now everyone has to pay extra by going through PayPal, like it or not =/.

 

A little thing like that is insignificant compared to aftermarket mark-ups, but somehow it does make me think twice before being willing to buy direct from Volks International these days. I can understand how Galvatim feels.

I wasn't too thrilled with being forced to pay via paypal. I also believe EMS prices went up this month too, which didn't help.

 

Even with all of these fees, it's still cheaper for me to order from Volks International than Volks USA.

Well~ I have to pay 20-25% Custom fees. So I guess the paypal handling fees are nothing serious (for me!) compared to that

I love to gripe about extra fees. They are my biggest pet peeve.

Like Galvatim said it should be built in to the total price.

You're already paying a lot, and then you get slammed with a bunch of extra fees, plus shipping and customs.

If it was in the initial price it wouldn't bother me so much.

But in the end we all pay it anyway haha!

 

Seems like Miku went up a bit with the exchange rate though? I didn't order her but I feel for you guys.

However, yes, we must always think of the barbaric after market prices pre-order is best I suppose...fees and all!

Ouch, yeah, fair point--USD/JPY dipped HARD last Friday on the US nonfarm payroll numbers, which were bad enough they've likely nixed a federal interest rate hike in June. The annoying thing about FOREX is, it's all SO based off of buyer sentiment, rather than ANY form of logic. >.< /rant

 

But this does show why it bugs me so much that the Volks International preorders can only be paid at shipment--you're essentially stuck trying to play the market for Your Currency x JPY with every single one. Blech.

Will I be expecting the same sort of horrible fees when Volks USA ships theirs? All I remember is the price being $650, but it doesn't state taxes, shipping, etc. (being shipping within the country btw)

What should I expect as far as total price outcome with this?

I preordered from Good Smile Company & their price had Volk's fees rolled in so 70,200 yen for the doll & a flat 2,000 yen for shipping.

If it's being shipped to an address inside of CA you will pay state taxes. If it's being shipped out of CA I think it depends on the state, but I am not 100% sure of that since I have lived in CA for almost 30 years.

If it ships outside of CA, you don't pay sales taxes -- it doesn't depend on the state. Per federal law, states only have the authority to charge sales tax if he seller has established a legal nexus in their state. Volks only has legal nexus in California, thus only California can charge sales tax.

Did you also get a payment mail? I was thinking about ordering with goodsmile because of their flatrate, but I thought the mikus would be later available.

I haven't seen an email yet, but checked the online order status & it says "Pending(Credit Card)" though I see no pending charge yet. From my last order over a year ago they just charged the card on file & shipped five days after the payment.

I do! I usually pay about $75-$100 in use tax each year on my state income return. It would take hoooours to calculate the exact amount I owe, so I try to do a best-guess estimate. $100 would be use tax on around $1,800 of out-of-state merchandise (Wisconsin has a low sales/use tax, only 5.5%).

I've never ordered a doll from them, so I don't know. Volks USA has a number of shipping options, and the price will vary a good deal. I wouldn't buy a doll without a tracking number, but I order all my small stuff first class mail. It only takes 2 days to get from them to me.

I do as well. CA is around 10% and there are a number of rules to follow. You must itemize all purchases over $1000 on your return. For purchases under $1000 you can either itemize or use a table that allows you to cross reference your income with a set use tax amount. The table can be advantageous or disadvantageous it all depends on how much you make and how much you spend.

 

My DDs ate my state tax return this year.

I havent gotten a email...and i cannot find my initial preorder email....so i emailed them about it.
