Regarding Preorders

I'm really interested in the Snow Miku preorder, but I don't have that kind of money right now. It isn't far fetched to assume it would be 6 months+ from the end of the preorder period before I would have to pay, given their previous preorder scheduling.

 

My question is what happens if/when you get to the payment period and can't pay? I would plan on being able to, but life comes up sometimes. I'd like to know what to expect in the case that I couldn't.

I am gonna guess Volks will be really pissed, ... but this isn't like repo men coming after you or anything..

 

Your order will just be canceled (then that extra Miku might end up as clicky-war or in-store purchase for another lucky person), and maybe they'll remember you on a hypothetical "black list" customer for next time?

They say you get put on a blacklist and can't buy from Volks in the future if you order/win a doll and then don't pay for it. I wonder how that works in actuality.

 

One option is you could find someone who wants to buy your Snow Miku from you at the time she's released. That way you don't have to cancel your order and you still get your money back.

 

Another option is just don't order her, and try to save up anyway. Then if you have the money when she's released, you can buy her from someone who doesn't want to keep her. There are always a few people who decide they no longer want their preorders...

payment is usually just before shipping right? So 1 year and 4 months from now... but yeah I understand your reasoning...

I tend to waffle back and forth on large purchases anyway. I just don't want to preorder and then have some horrific accident that eats all my money and then I get blacklisted. However, I think I may go ahead and preorder. She's absolutely perfect for a first girl.

What I would suggest is make absolutely certain that over the next year you either have the card paid down enough to cover the purchase, or save the money in the bank to pay the card down by the needed amount right before the purchase. You should never carry more than a 30% balance on a credit card month to month anyways. Over 30% has a moderate impact on your credit standing and over 50% has a substantial impact on your credit standing.

 

Most banks should allow you to setup automatic transfers from checking to saving. Open a savings account and automatically move $50 into it each month, and don't touch that money. (I know that's easier said than done.) By the time she is released you will have the money you need and a bit of a buffer.

I should have the money saved by that point. I start my first year of college this fall, and I'll be getting my first "real" job then. I have about half saved up at this point and am working on selling a resin that I no longer do anything with, which will leave me with about $50 to save up. Like I said, I waffle back and forth a lot and run through all sorts of horrible situations in my head before committing to large purchases.

But my friend and I were talking, and she kept telling me that with the wait time being a year and four months, I'd just have to put about 50 dollars away a month and I'd be all set!

I'm going to print out a picture of snow miku and tape it to a jar, and just put 50 dollars in it a month, then turn that into debit money once payment time comes around.

Fantastic idea! I was planning on saving about $50 a month, but a jar with a picture sounds perfect. I just might steal that if you don't mind XD

They won't be really pissed, I promise. It's simply a business decision and they will allocate your doll to a store or another buyer. As others have mentioned they will, however, place you on a 'very real' blacklist of people who do not honor their preorders. You will not be directly notified of this change on your account but it will be flagged. You can log into your account and even enter lotteries in the future, but when Volks conducts their lotteries/preorders, their filters will reject buyers/accounts listed on the blacklist and will prevent you from winning or ordering any of the dolls for which you entered. Volks purgatory, I suppose. A state of eternal dolly limbo?

 

As far as I understand you would still be able to purchase items (standard dolls, etc) readily available from the website- as long as you pay at the time of purchase.

 

At any rate, Wolf and sweetresin have the best suggestions. I bet you can save up enough in time! Snow Miku is stunning- I hope you decide to order!
