I don't think Ronronshuka does commissions. WDS charges $300 plus shipping I believe.

I got a quote from the vendor listed in this thread for $100 for a faceup. That doesn't include options or shipping. I think their most expensive option was removal of the old faceup for $20. You can see samples of their work in this thread and on their website.

They also recommended the ideal head for the character I was looking to create. Bad news for me is it's Sheryl Nome, and she won't be out until September 2015. Looking at her head though it is the perfect shape.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Sorry for the long post!

Ronronshuka does only sell via auction. In fact, the primary part of Japanese artists do not take private commissions and only buy the heads, paint, and auction off. It is a more effective way of allowing them to paint without the restraints of a customer telling them what to do. Artistic creativity can really be snuffed that way after all. The amount of Japanese artists that are good and you can commission generally start as low as $150 and go up from there.

And while not asked, I'mma give you alternatives because you don't have to pay $100 for a face-up. The reality is that it doesn't have to be that way. ^^;;

I will make a list of artists I like as a reference for people who you could maybe use. All of them I know have experience or the ability of painting DD. Just cause they are primarily a resin painter doesn't mean they don't know how. (Other then Hikaru, he specializes in DD.)

First with people you can reach off DoA and/or have a website to refer to:

Hikaru/ Ohime-Sama Aesthetics: https://www.flickr.com/groups/ohime-sama_aesthetics/

Cats1010/ Call me gorgeous: http://call-me-gorgeous.com/

Nomyens: http://www.nomyens.com/

Andreja/ Nicolle's Dreams Shop: http://nicolles-dreams-shop.blogspot.com/

Please note: Currently on Hiatus

Bake_Neko (on DoA)/ Pearls of Danube: http://www.pearlsofdanube.com/

xhanthi/ Jointed Love: http://jointedlove.blogspot.com/

Now for the DoA listings:

propertyoftheuchiha/ FabuulaRasa Aesthetics: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/382363

GamerGirlLexi/ 16-Bit Face-ups: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/576142

elisa_maza/ Angel Toast Mods & Faceups: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php/84123

Is too bad Juu-Yuki doesn't seem to take face-ups anymore. I loved her work.

If you have DoA access then I recommend you look into them. There is a huge variety of artists with many different prices. The world isn't as limited as it was a few years ago to get your doll commissioned. And my list isn't just the good folks, merely those who please my aesthetics.

There are also other artists to turn to either through their own private sites or Flickr.

We also have a full arrangement of people on this site who can do face-ups.

But these are just alternatives.

I guess the reason WDS does commissions is that she's not in Japan.

Isn't she in Hong Kong or something like that? Though that fee is a bit mind boggling to me. I thought it was only $150 for some reason.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the process works with her either, unsure how much input you can give/etc.

A lot of the Asian artists function on you can give references, but otherwise they do what they wanna do. Wouldn't be surprised if she was the same. And if you don't like the end result....oh well. I don't actually dislike that, but it means if you have something specific you are better going with someone who is willing to do that. Got a lot of those artists about at least. XD

I'm pretty sure Kitsune (who commissioned two - her Aoko and Beatrice) also paid around $150 for each O_o Maybe it depends what you want to be done to your Head?^^"

(I emailed WDS but didn't get any reply)

It can take some time for you to get a reply from WDS. (Seems to be that WDS is a little slow with answering, if you want them to repaint a Head for you, you should be prepared for that. Its normal for WDS xD)

Dollfie Family:

Some artists offer discounts if it's a head they've always wanted to paint and haven't had a chance to paint before... Not sure if that's true of WDS, but I've seen it with other painters.

I emailed her 3 times, over a period of time mind you I don't want to harass anyone haha. No response. I guess I'm all set now. As beautiful as her work is $300 is just ludicrous. I completely understand the time and effort that goes in this artistic work but uhhh no.

At least she can actually make a living off of her work though.

Considering that the average annual income in China ranges from $1600 - $5000 depending on the region; she is making a good living at it even in she only paints 1 head a month. Two heads a month would put her at $7200 annually.

To be perfectly honest though if an artist can make a good living at their art I am all for it.
