US Dolpa! 9/5/15 in Los Angeles!

The Germans make resin dolls that no one can resist?

 

I think the French are better at that. I don't know of any resin dolls produced in Germany but man, who knows. There are so many artist dolls these days! They even have their own big doll convention that happens in France. (LDoll--I admit I totally want to go to it one year..)

 

I sure hope the event isn't by lottery! The email makes it sound like you're in by saying, "You're invited!" If I am to go, I hope they get all the details out ASAP because I don't want to deal with expensive air fare @_@

 

I really think Volks is going to either limit the ticket sales or hold a lottery, though I hope that I am wrong. I don't know if they realize just how many people are going to want to come otherwise. We also don't know what room they got for the event so we can't tell what sort of space they could have. Did you book the hotel room? You can do so without getting charged and hassle free cancellation up to 24hrs before check-in. And though airfare won't be bad for me I feel the same way. I thought about driving down, but 8 hours alone in my car kinda sounds like hell.

 

I think that is very smart choice- to be safe rather than sorry. This is especially true if the company in question likes to mix things up as much as Volks does. Lottery or not, I'm sure you'll get to go and have a fantastic time no matter what comes your way. :YMCOWBOY:

 

I totally think this too! :3 My back-up plan is if this gets cancelled or we can't get in then I'm going to spend the Labor Day weekend at Disneyland. I'm already spending Sunday there so I can just add on a day. But yes, better safe than sorry. Volks is making me feel so impatient haha.

I'm not sure how bad it would be though. Looking at the meeting space available at the Marriott there are meeting rooms and ballrooms. The ballrooms say they fit1100 ish people depending on setup (rounds, classroom, reception, etc.). I'd expect anywhere between 500-750 tickets for the event, significantly less for anything like a face up class.

 

Dollism had a little over 400 people attending. The main vendor room there was a little larger than one of the four ballrooms at the Marriott.

 

I do think more people are going to want to attend with it being volks but I'd think they'd be able to do fcfs.

 

This said, yes I already have a hotel room and flight (before you think me completely insane I used miles so it was $11).

Most people are assuming that too, that they'll do FCS, which I admit would be awesome. Also lots hope for a SDGr Alice/Lorina release (I'm personally hoping to see White Rabbit.) due to the Alice-theme. All the things that could or could not happen. XD

I meant First Come First Served for the tickets instead of lottery. ^_^;

 

Same with me on changing over to the room block, unless their rate is more than what I have now. But the flight, I probably saved the cost of a doll.

 

I'm probably going to be happy with whatever they bring because they're coming, I just want there to be bingo.

Oh, I didn't even think about that. That'd be awesome. But I admit, just cause I haven't been to a doll event since GoGaDoll Lite I'm pretty much excited no matter what they do. I just wanna be apart of the experience.

Will this conflict with the NY doll convention? Are they holding that again?

I don't think there is going to be a US-based Dollism event this year.

 

Dollism Plus US was in Sept 2014, but it was announced all the way back in May 2013. If they were doing another one in Sept 2015, I assume we would have heard about it by now. One of the DoA mods mentioned that they had not been contacted about a 2015 event as of November 2014, so it's pretty unlikely.

 

I'd hope we'd see an announcement this year for a 2016 Dollism event.

Can anyone explain to me how getting a chance at the LE dolls works at a Dolpa? I know you have to get a book, but I've also heard about getting in the right line early enough to have a chance.

 

Are the books limited in quantity too?

 

I live close enough to LA I could drive there in 8 hours, so I am thinking of booking at the Marriott and going.

Ok I got an email from Volks USA saying they had updated the site for this to include rules for attendence, but I can't see any difference in the site. Am I missing something?

Hideyoshi Shigeta will be at the BJD panel at Wondercon Saturday and he will give more Dolpa details.

 

 

I'll be at the con so hopefully I won't a photoshoot at that time and can attend the panel.

I don't think there will be an attendance cap, but I do hope they charge an admission fee that is reasonable depending on the programming content. For Volks USA to bear the brunt of the financial burden to fly their guests & doll doctors over and pay for their accommodation is a lot to ask.

I'd like to see more details, but I reserved a room at the hotel in anticipation of attending. Not buying the train tickets till I know more. I can cancel the room and loose nothing.

-Reservations will be taken for entry. If they exceed occupancy they will hold a lottery.

-tickets will be around $30-$50, they are not sure yet.

-Dealers from Japan will not attend but they will have products there.

I had a feeling that they were going to do the ticketing via lottery if they had too many attendees >_< Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but we'll see. Maybe the Dolls Party being "small" isn't too small! For $30-$50 per person I do hope they at least include refreshments & snacks of some sort. I'll be keeping my eyes out for more information about making reservations for tickets~

They kinda have it worded weirdly. You have a online lottery for entry and then a at the door one. I only saw the part about doing it AT THE DOOR. So it threw me through a loop for a sec there.

It says ENTRY TO THE DOLPA. Not the Tea Party. They have a registration button for that that I THOUGHT was for the Dolpa. They don't mention an alternative ver.

Someone did say it is possible this just forces an order other then the line, but I could see it breaking down to straight up denying people if they got too full because they'd be taking people in THERE and not ONLINE.

 

Which makes like a lot more sense. And the lack of inefficiency is literally annoying. Funny thing is is that they could force a random assignment on entry order with the online lottery as well. lol
