US Dolpa! 9/5/15 in Los Angeles!

I'm still planning to go though I haven't committed as far as getting hotel and plane tickets just yet. Don't want to miss my chance to meet lots of DD friends, but reluctant to put any money down based on Volks USA's flakey reputation. Also trying to decide if I want to do any LA side trips while I'm down there ^_^

My two friends who got into the tea party are going, but another friend and I who didn't are still waffling! I haven't priced plane tickets yet either. We are going to wait and see the results of the secondary lottery -- if it ever happens!

So did anyone who didn't get into the Tea Party during the 1st Round of Lottery get in when they pulled the 2nd round? I saw a couple of people on DoA say they got an e-mail saying they were chosen. Volks really should have made an announcement about having re-drawn names for a second time. They just kinda did it with no announcement anywhere

 

I'm hoping that with Anime Expo behind us that they will be focusing more on LA Dolpa & the Tea Party. Along with giving us more details about items that will be sold. I know a couple people who didn't get into the Tea Party who are still going for the shopping, but I feel they would be more encouraged to go if they knew ahead of time what there might be to purchase. Because if it isn't anything spectacular (like regular items) then people will want to spend their good time elsewhere~

No email for the 2nd round either. You are automatically entered if you didn't get in the first time around I'm assuming?

 

I'm still on the fence about going and I live relatively close to the area. Hopefully they will offer more information soon.

I just don't wanna reason spending all this money for a pointless event. If I was more social, maybe? But I'm not so... I'm just up here in NorCal too so it wouldn't be hard to drive down. My two friends aren't probably going either because of the lack of events. I can't even take my boy to the dolly doctor because they require a CoA! I bought his body and head from two very different places. OTL;; Lets disregard I can do all he offers on my own haha.

 

Separate rant:

 

They are chronically late with updates. I think that's cause they can be with how they are set up in Japan. You don't have to be super on time when the majority can just take a line of buses/trains to any event within the country. And no matter what people say, I don't think they'll ever really adapt themselves for the international market. If anything, I feel like they've simply been shunning us out more, and more.

 

I do wish they had handled the Tea Party better, but honestly the results were so freakin' unlikely after the initial lottery I didn't hold my breath for a second. They probably didn't even think they'd need to host a second, or considered the numbers were so low maybe not bother. XD

Yeah they opened up the entry form on the website again for those wanting to try again (or try for the first time). Some people on DoA were wondering why they didn't just use the names that had already entered previously, but someone made a good point about how there may be a lot of people in that pool who no longer wish to go. So starting a new pool of people would guarantee less cancellations. If they have to do a 3rd round of lottery for tea party tickets that's just crazy XD

Well, I didn't hear back on the tea party second lottery so I think I'm out. Still I'm going to Dolpa! Got my hotel and plane setup so I'm committed. Sounds like there's a lot of folks on DoA planning some tea party alternates for the folks left out anyway.

Plus Volks announced some of their limited items for Dolpa on FB, they have a Kanu, Mai and Sinon in the lottery.

They should have the original mold Pop out a few of them for special events

 

ps: Too bad there's no Ryomou Shimei.

If they're old stock they might be on an older body.

I'm betting they are old stock. If it were a new pour from the old molds they would never do Kanu since she has tan skin, which they've never made again since her.

Yeah, I think they have a stash for these type of events as well as the occasional one-off outfits which are made from parts of older sets. It wouldn't make sense to make a single new doll and wig and outfit and box, the production cost is too high. However they do sometimes release dolls in different skintones, like the NS Mariko one-off, those are probably new casts.

Really excited that this is coming up soon! It'll be so fun seeing everyone either again or for the first time While I won't be able to purchase a lot during all the shopping I am hoping to snag something fun!

I'm actually really interested in this! A whole outfit, shoes, and carry case. They'll have one for SD & MSD sizes and they are $83.00 which is actually very reasonable! If the outfits that come in these are something my girls would wear (since what is pictured on the site is just an example) & I get a good number in line I'll have to try to snag one

Hmmm, a friend of mine is going to the event and wanted to know if you can pay for everything with card there? Does anyone know for sure? I would say yes as the stuff can get quiet expensive and you would need a lot of cash on hand to pay LOL

Sturmhornisse At all the BJD cons they attended along with Anime Expo they took cards so I don't see it being any different for the Dolpa. But it's always good to bring card & cash just in case Your friend could always call, e-mail, or post on their FB page asking about it to be sure.
