Do regular DD3 busts fit on a DDDy waist piece?

Recommended Posts

Eustia

As topic, really. I kind of like the larger waist/hips/thighs of a Dy, but dislike the stupidly large breasts, so I was wondering if it is possible to put a regular L bust on it without some sort of modding.

In my experience, no, not without some sort of modding. I put an M-bust on DDdy torso and it required a fairly easy mod to the M-bust.

What sort of mod? Some sort of cutting or trimming?

Yes, you need to trim the bottom of the bust. If you look at a DD bust, it goes down to the ribs, but if you look at a DDdy bust, it ends right below the bust. Basically you need to trim the DD bust to end right below the bust. I made the mod with an exacto knife, just kind of gently cutting away a little bit at a time until it fit correctly.

Ah. That's unfortunate. I'd have to buy a pre-modded one, since I lack the dexterity to do such myself. Will have to just keep an eye out, I guess.

The DD2 large and medium bust will fit on the DDDy abdomen, just barely. As you can see from the photo below, the bottom of the DD2 bust has to be stretched to fit over the wider waist of the DDDy abdomen and you will have to remove the hard plastic "rib cage" to accomplish that.

To get a better fit you would need to trim the bottom of the DD2 bust up to the location of the bottom of the DDDy bust.

I do not know how this would work with a DD3 bust. I do not have a DD3 so I don't know if there is a size difference between the DD2 and DD3.

Ah, I did not know that was an option -- I was way too worried about the vinyl splitting to forcibly stretch it over the torso! I live in a cold climate so vinyl can get pretty brittle during the winter...

Here's what a DDIII M-bust looks on a DDdyIII body after modding:

Proportionally the medium bust looks good on the DDDy torso. The higher trim on the bottom of the bust part really makes the look. Very nicely done.

I know your pain! I'm also not fond of those giant DDdy breasts but the waist and legs are to die for!

I'm planning to do mod the body of my first doll once all the parts get home this February, so if you want I can keep you updated on how "easy" it is.

It's not a DDIII, but here's a tutorial for the DDII L-bust. Another tutorial (larger picture!), this time DDII M-bust but the technique shown is what counts.

And a photo from a fellow forum member here, also "just" DDII but the visuals will be the same.

Hope it helps a bit, I can't wait to try this out for myself soon!

@Cauldroness: The M-bust looks great on her - nice clean cut!

Was it easy scraping with the exacto? Could it be comparable to working on resin if you have experience with that?

Thank you! I ended up selling the body (just didn't quite fit with the heads currently in my group) but it is a beautiful look, especially if you love a pear-shaped girl. Great for high-waisted or belted outfits.

Thank you so much! Personally, I collected Pullips before I shifted to DDs, and I found it closer to modding a Pullip than working with resin.

It's actually a pretty easy process, and I think most people should be able to get a very clean, smooth cut as long as they take their time and have patience with the process. Really, I can't emphasize enough how important it is to go slow! That's probably the #1 factor in getting a smooth cut.

I started by using a pencil to trace just a hair below where I wanted to make the cut. Then I used a very sharp exacto to trim away a large chunk below the pencil line (this was an ugly and jagged cut). After that, I started slowly trimming off slivers of vinyl until I could no longer see the pencil line, working my way around and around and around the bottom of the bust, slowly bringing the cut up to the pencil line. As a last step, I trimmed the vinyl at an angle so that the outside was a little longer than the inside (this helps it lay a little better over the DDdy torso, imho). For this, too, I only removed a sliver at a time. It's really easy to get a smooth line if you're only working on a one-inch section at a time (when I did the angle, I worked with even shorter sections, probably only a quarter or a half of an inch).

Yes that's a much better look. The oversized bust on the DDDy has pretty much turned me off on the idea of getting any character that uses that body. It's nice to know it can be modded to a more realistic (for an anime character) look.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Wow! That looks awesome, Cauldroness!

Thank you! Unfortunately I didn't keep the modded DDdy, but I'm sure its new owner is loving the look!

Thanks for the pics and links, all who posted. I definitely want to make a girl with this look. Going to try to find someone to buy and do the mod on the bust for me in the near future.

Faceup artists don't keep all the heads they paint. But we can still appreciate their work. I am sure the new owner appreciates the body. It is so nicely done.

Good luck, Eustia!

I was looking for a post like this, because I love the DDdy hip, and i wanted something like this with a M/L bust. I tried my S bust (Akira) on my DDdy (Sasara) and it was amazing ♥ No modded, just tried it, so I'm definitly doing it when I'm decided on the bust size for Sasara

Omgosh!!! I love how the DD M bust looks on the DDY body!!! It's simply perfect!!! I'm going to try and see how a DD L bust will look on my incoming Alna, as I'm not particularly thrilled with the orbs she comes with.

I really wanted to replicate this technique for my next doll in line since she's gonna be a little more unique to my doll family, but I am still a beginner to the hobby and my skills are okay-ish.

I am thinking of building the body together piece by piece but is buying the whole DDy body then the M bust of the DD3 a better option instead? Because I don't seem to find the interior chest piece that the DDy body has in the Volks online store.

My Doll family:

Mina(DD3-ish), Nui(SmD Ebony), Nolene(MDD)
