DD head sizes for wig making

Does anyone have the head sizes, or an image comparison, for the standard DD heads? I am looking to get a spare 'dummy' head for wig making, but want to get the most 'average' DD head possible, so any future DDs I get can use the same wigs

 

I occasionally make my own doll wigs by making a felt head cap and then glueing on hair wefts. I've done this for 1/6th and 1/3rd scale dolls. The felt cap ends up very hard and sturdy, not only staying on the head even with props and anime style hair pieces attached, but also acting as good stain protection (I use white felt).

 

The problem is the felt cap making process is not good for dollfie face ups. I'll make a tutorial at some point, but briefly, you put mix pva glue with very hot water, soak a large square of white felt and then pull it tight over your doll's head. Stretch the felt to smooth out the bumps and get the head shape, and secure with (non coloured) elastic bands. Wait to dry, then cut off the 'frilly' edge beyond the band.

 

The fact that you use very hot water means that there is a good chance you'll damage the finish on your face up: atleast one doll I've had ended up with chronic shiny-face, and I had to redo her face. So I've been using a polysterene ball I've pummelled into a rough Aoi-head shape for my DD wigs, but it's not a perfect fit and slips.

 

So I've decided to buy a spare head (second hand or otherwise) and want to find the most averagest, in the middle DD head there ever was! Ideally one of the default heads. So I need head measurements, and ideally comparison pictures (with an Aoi head would be fab!).

 

Can anyone help?

I would sugest getting one of the SQ-labs head, as they are made os resin. The problem is that they seems to be smaller than the DD heads.

 

I don't know if there is an "average" sized DD head. Even between the standart models the sizes are very different.

From what I heard, the DDH-04 is considered bigger than the other heads.

I only have 01 DD. But I have 2 DD character wigs, and even their sizes is very different. So, even between the limited DDs there are various head sizes,

 

I am very interested in the way you make the wigs. How do you glue the hair? This looks very interesting.

I have hdd 02, 03 and 04, plus Neris and SQ-lab Kaoru.

Neris is by far the biggest, and Kaoru is the smallest. 8-9" wigs fit tightly on Neris but are somewhat loose on Kaoru. I haven't noticed a big difference in the standard head sizes, they have fit all the 8-9" wigs I tried on them. All the wigs are made with stretchy fabric caps and sewn wefts, so they have enough give to fit most heads.

I have seen some mohair leather wigs for DD, and the process for making those is similar, so it must be do-able.
