Re-introduction! Glad to be back!

I've been a member here for a couple of years, but I had to sell my only DD (at the time) for economic hardship reasons, and only intermittently signed in here during the next 18 months or so. Times are much better now, and I've restarted my DD family!

 

I'm pleased to be the Mama to 2 DDs, Yukino "Rose" and Aoi "Miki," and MDD DH-03 "Amethyst" (but we call her Amy). As soon as I reach the post minimum, I'll be posting pics of my girls here.

 

To re-introduce myself: I'm Charlie, I live in Pittsburgh with my husband and 22 year old son (31 year old daughter lives on her own, hallelujah and amen). I'm a demographic outlier for the DD community--I'm a middle-aged woman who doesn't watch anime and doesn't have any special fascination with Japanese or Asian cultures--I just really love dolls.

 

I did, however, live in the Philippines for a couple of years in the 1980s, and MABUHAY to any Filipino forum members! I regret that I've lost most of my Tagalog from disuse. I'm certainly willing to relearn, though. There are so many Filipino novellas I want to watch!

 

I have a dog and 5 cats, all rescues. Four of my cats are black. I'm a black cat rescue advocate because of irrational superstitions and fears that a surprising number of people still have about black cats. Did you know that black cats are disproportionately abandoned and are often the last shelter cats to be adopted here in the USA? This means, sad to say, that many are euthanized annually for lack of adopters.

 

I'm an academic advisor by trade, am seriously overeducated (what? I'm good at school, I work at a major university, and I love to read), and am a walking reference source for the histories of Lizzie Borden, Jack the Ripper, Tudor England, and Anne Boleyn.

I've heard that about black cats and dogs and its really sad. I've also got into arguments with people that don't believe its true, which is also sad.

I love my name, too. It suits me.

 

The animal shelters around here make a point of having black cat and dog awareness--and every Halloween to remind everyone to keep black pets inside. It's just such a medieval thing to have to do.

A belated welcome to you! I also have a Yukino (I wonder how many folks do?) along with several others. I see that you're also a fan of Alna - I picked up one of the "Magic" versions this last time they were offered, and I also picked up a used 1st version complete costume, so yeah, I'm a fan. Didn't know the stuff about black cats, but I'm a bird person. (Cats & Birds? - just not worth the risk to me.) Seems a shame - none of us choose our DNA. Anyway, I'm a male & married to a Half-Filipino woman who tolerates my recent penchant for these dolls.
