Pikaoh Posted March 12, 2015 I just got my first Dollfie (Saber Alter 2nd) and while I've done a good deal of research into maintenance so far, there are still a few questions I have. 1. I've basically given up on the idea of keeping Saber's default outfit on for long periods due to staining, but how much and what kind of preparation would be needed just to keep them on for a few hours (ie, washing several times, body stocking, both...)? Also, is it safe to keep Saber's wig on at all times? Should I invest in a wig cap? 2. I've read a number of people suggesting getting a test part to see whether a piece of clothing will stain, and I plan to get that. However, it seems like a waste to spend the money on a full Dollfie part if all you're doing is staining it. Is there a cheaper alternative to test on that still gives an idea of the effects clothes will have on a Dollfie with white skin? 3. Does anyone have any info on if Saber's Casual Outing Set stains? 4. Browsing the outfit database thread, I see a lot of people saying "doesn't stain" in the comments. Just to clarify: does that mean that it doesn't stain out of the box or that after washing and/or using a body stocking it can be worn constantly without having to worry too much about staining? Thanks.
waha Posted March 12, 2015 I can provide a few answers at least. Saber Alter 2nd's outfit is a pretty bad stainer, I have the outfit and washed it and it's been fine for days on a normal skin doll. Then I tried it for 2 hours on a white skin doll and it stained. Fairly sure her wig has a neutral colored cap so it should be safe. 2. Since she's white skin, you're pretty much gonna need a white skin part to test with. A pair of hands maybe? 4. Most of the stain reports are for normal skin, white skin stains easier, and can stain from outfits that never would stain normal skin.
Mahoro Posted March 12, 2015 3. if you mean http://myfigurecollection.net/item/47796 then the sandals do stain, very very mildly on the bottom of the feet, and it takes a long time to even get to that. I have kept that outfit on Saber for months with no other ill effects. If however you mean http://myfigurecollection.net/item/42433 I only can assume the black stockings will stain, I don't think the skirt does. Disclaimer: The Saber I have is the Normal Skin Version. Is it safe to assume that just about anything short of pure white is probably gonna stain? And is there any hope of her being able to wear black stuff stain-free? 3. if you mean *snip* then the sandals do stain, very very mildly on the bottom of the feet, and it takes a long time to even get to that. Disclaimer: The Saber I have is the Normal Skin Version. Yeah, I mean the first one. I tried to link but my account apparently doesn't have that privilege. Guess the staining's still an open question then, since there seems to be such a discrepancy between skin tones. Thanks for the answers so far. Though... now I'm regretting waiting until after I ordered to look into maintenance...
waha Posted March 13, 2015 Is this without a body stocking? Yes, that's without a body stocking. Alter's outfit is the kind of outfit that would just look awful with a body stocking imo. Doubt it'll stain through a stocking. Most of the stain reports are for normal skin, white skin stains easier, and can stain from outfits that never would stain normal skin. Is it safe to assume that just about anything short of pure white is probably gonna stain? And is there any hope of her being able to wear black stuff stain-free? No, I have plenty of dark stuff by Volks that doesn't stain, and then I have dark stuff by Volks that will even stain your fingers. White skin is just more susceptible to staining. Yeah I looked around Coolcat but nothing seemed to jive too well. Guess I'm just gonna have to give it a lot of washing then keep it on as little as possible. Thanks for the info. SakuraSylph Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) For what it's worth, I had the opposite experience with Alter II's default outfit. I left it on Sabriel for more than a year, and when I finally removed it her white skin was still pristine. Granted, this was with a CoolCat white full bodysuit on underneath it, the one with the lacy neck top and full arms. The suit itself was not stained either upon outfit removal, so I cannot say whether it actually made any difference. But in any case I thought it looked nice and was worthwhile to be safe with white skin. It was a little hard to get the AlterII outfit's neck piece fastened over the bodysuit's neck, but I thought it looked nice together. The white matches her skin color so you can't tell much difference in the chest area that the AlterII outfit exposes - unless you are hoping to see cleavage, which the bodysuit would cover up. I have a spare DD3 white skin arm here. The shoulder peg has been removed so you can't actually use it as a doll arm, but it's in new condition otherwise so you would have lots of surface area for stain testing and removal practice. Get in touch by PM if you'd like to acquire it. Edited March 13, 2015 by Guest SakuraSylph

SakuraSylph Posted March 13, 2015 Keyword being bodysuit. I did mention my staining on WS was without a bodysuit. Yep! I saw you mention that. The suit she was wearing wasn't stained itself when I removed it, so without an "oh I'm glad she wore this" moment, it was inconclusive to me whether the suit had had any effect or not. Jezrah Posted March 13, 2015 My personal experience with Alter v 2's outfit was that I washed it twice but didn't soak it because I didn't want the pleating at the wrist parts to come out. I only left it on my girl for a few hours at a time, and that was with cling wrap on her arms, white pantyhose on, and white tape inside the bodice. She was fine with that set up, and there was no dye on the pantyhose or leaching through the tape. But when I sold it on one person asked if there was any possible was to force it on an L bust and I said no, but I'd give a picture for how very off it was. So I slid it on my NS Saber Extra, and that was a mistake because it left a big purple mark all the way up the back of one leg, just from sliding it on then back off with no protection. Gunter Posted March 13, 2015 I sort of did an odd thing with my AlterII's default outfit. I'm a sucker for plastic wrap. I hate body suits because they have to poke out, and with show-y pieces like this I like to keep her totally free of the clutter. I did wash her outfit twice (I think) in a attempt to reduce chances. I covered every part with plastic wrap other then the ribbons, the front tip around the choker and the the tip that touches the hands on of her arm pieces. I did outright skip bothering with the panties/stockings because I felt it was pointless to put something on I'd never see and with my method that's a lot of extra work. I also did cover her legs for boots. But, anyways, yeah, perfectly fine. No problems to report. I will admit this method is a love/hate process. You gotta be seriously patient and it takes time to form everything so you don't see a single bit of the wrap but feel she's safe. I'm pretty sure a bodysuit would be the much easier alternative to my method though. I just figured I'd throw that out.

SakuraSylph Posted March 14, 2015 Would you mind posting a few pictures? Sorry, I don't own the doll in question any more, so no pictures of this ensemble are possible. You might be able to imagine it well if you look at the bodysuit itself on coolcat. Regarding the WS arm, there's no rush, just once your account gets unlocked you can write in if you still want it.
