First Dollfie/BJD! Did I do this right?

Hi! So I'm already a figure collector, but I hadn't gone as far as getting BJDs yet . . . But then I saw the Miku DD and fell in love! Her face and eyes are just wonderful, plus it's Miku and who doesn't love her? I was trying to decide whether to preorder the Snow Miku or try to find the regular style . . . I ended up finding the regular style on Jungle for 92K which I know is a lot over MSRP. I think the Snow variant is very pretty but I really prefer the regular styling so I figured that it would make more sense to just get the one I want . . .

 

However I know you can buy parts separately. I saw that Mandarake for example has the regular Miku clothes and wig for sale sometimes, but it looked like that was going to be pretty expensive. It sounds like even her eyes are exclusive to her! So was I better off getting a normal Miku, or would it be better to preorder the Snow Miku and get her some clothes? Or perhaps get both and sell parts I don't need once Snow gets here? I don't know where all to look for pricing so I was unsure what the smartest thing to do would be. If you folks have advice or can at least tell me I didn't do something dumb and crazy I would appreciate it a lot!

 

Oh and my credit card flagged the charge as possible fraudulent this morning. I cleared it but it made me feel more crazy LOL.

First off GZ on getting your first DD. ABJD are pretty great tbh, but I'm biased. I started with those dolls, and then later shifted to DD. ANYWAYS.

 

Honestly, if you wanted the regular ver. then you did nothin' wrong. Miku auctions end around 80~85k JPY on Y!J so going the Jungle route just to avoid it all, plus the even more expensive fees if you wanted to deal with a Y!J shopping service (A straight 5% is nothin' then lol) was the easier route imo.

 

While you could have maybe ordered the Snow ver., and then sold off her stuff, the only way to probably get the wig/outfit for anything decent was to participate in bidwars on Y!J and no one wants to deal with that. Also, the snow ver. does have a different face-up than the regular ver. so you may have not liked her as much given that factor.

 

So I don't think you did anything wrong. There is nothing ever wrong with paying the price of convenience. I've done it more than once. You got what you wanted, and that's the key thing here as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks I feel a little better! I think it's just the price I pay for not having preordered her. But I would never have preordered her back then anyway, I wasn't a serious enough collector. So I'd be in this situation no matter what.

 

Especially as a newbie I think navigating Japanese auctions would be really hard, haha.

 

Will her value probably go up over time, or is this likely the highest she will go? I know she has been out since October or so technically. Part of the reason I didn't want to wait was that I assumed her price was going to go up as she gets more rare but I could be wrong.

Due to her pre-order nature I say it is highly unlikely she'll go up any further than where she is at. Maybe many, many, many years from now when Miku doesn't in general flood the market, and her dolls are really rare. But with the second release of her (even if a different variety) just sort of reduces the probability. She needs a long time from now to really see any chance of going up, and even then I don't believe she'll go up that far.

 

I also simply don't think Volks is done with her. Now that Vocaloid and Volks have collaborated, I expect to see quite a bit of exploiting of their popularity cause $$$$$$ lol

 

And yeah, auction managing isn't too bad but can be a bit overwhelming and you have to make sure you keep in mind of how much your fees cost, the fact you have double shipping, and just everything. It is just easier to pay a higher dollar and call it a day.

Bad timing on my part then. As long as she doesn't go down too much that's OK I guess. I'd like her to hold her value just in case I have to let her go someday.

I think I am just going to get both of them hehe. I'll have normal Miku for now and Snow Miku next summer! I might break Snow Miku down and keep her special components for normal Miku and sell her body or use it for another doll. It's a year away so who knows! Knowing me I will have bought like ten other dolls by then, LOL.
