Godzilla44566 Posted March 24, 2015 Is there a way to combat what I assume everyone with the doll has seen being the wig tangles pretty bad? Mine has been stationary since I have gotten it and it magically has 1 semi big knot, and tons of loose tangly hair that seems to only get worse and more tangled no matter what you do to it. From a distance it looks good but up close loose strands are just everywhere. Is it the nature of a wig of this type or is there some sort of defense? I've noticed it is easier get tangled with the default teal wig vs the Senbon wig... not sure if it's because it's fuller or if it's b/c they've put product in it to possibly fluff it out at the ends? foo Posted March 24, 2015 Get the Volks Tenshi-no-Hairbrush and groom the wig once in a while. FYI it's not a simple toothbrush, the bristle density is perfect for combing wigs.
Saber Posted March 24, 2015 Will a toothbrush work too? Maybe if you yank some of the hairs out? I just ask because I have lots of old toothbrushes laying around, haha.
BeyondTime Posted March 24, 2015 I use a toothbrush but use a new clean one not an old used one. Human plastic combs introduce static in my experience. I've read you can use metal pet combs, but those usually have sharp teeth. I wouldn't want to scratch them or tear delicate clothing stitching so I use a toothbrush. I may get the Volks one now the I know about the bristles. Not sure if you will like this option as a wig alternate, but Minty posted this awhile back. http://www.leekeworld.com/En/Product/p_view.asp?it_code=5757&B_catalog_num=147 I think it's more Ruri from Nadessico than Miku, but it's a very similar style. Saber Posted March 24, 2015 Haha yeah, I'd only use an old one if I can get it really really clean! I might have an extra unused toothbrush laying around too, hmm. That is a very pretty wig! Looks like it's sold out though? Also I heard it was hard to find wigs that fit her big head? How do you know if something will fit her before you buy it? Is she a special size? BeyondTime Posted March 24, 2015 On Miku I don't know, but my Kos-Mos has an unusually shaped head cap and wig fits are a bit problematic. You can use a cloth wig cap and something that I think is called wig stopper to help prevent wigs from slipping. No idea if that applies to Miku. My saber Lily is the opposite; her wig is so tight it's really hard to get a wig cap on under the wig. For a loose wig I highly recommend using something to help hold it in place. It's really frustrating to have the wig slip off when you are working with them. 8" - 9" wigs are the norm for DD, but again if Miku is outside that range I don't know about it. There are rules for measuring the head and some third party wig sites have illustrations showing how. I would hope Volks would stay within norms for the industry, but with any company making artistic products creative vision may trump compatibility. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Saber Posted March 24, 2015 It sounds like she's intended to be in that range but just runs big, so tighter wigs won't fit? Something like that. Someone posted a thread in the Q&A subforum showing off Miku in a bunch of wigs but lamented that many that they had didn't fit her.
Yukamina Posted March 24, 2015 I haven't had any trouble getting wigs on my Miku, every 8-9 wig I've tried was just fine... My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
archeotech Posted March 27, 2015 A basic toothbrush has worked for me but yes a clean unused one is recommended. I also recommend getting some Volks wig oil and some Volks wig styling cream. Spray a little wig oil on the twin tails while gently brushing it out. Helps remove frizz. The styling cream is great for fixing the fringe. Just rub a bit on your fingers and apply. The wig on Miku is super tight! >_< I imagine volks didn't want it slipping because of the weight of the twintails, so you can't really fit a wig cap under it. Mine hasn't stained although. To put it on I advise kinda hooking it on at the back and then pulling from the fringe onto the head as the back is very delicate.
foo Posted March 27, 2015 Actually, for using the wig water wax, Volks has styling tips for Miku's wig here, http://www.volks.co.jp/miku/en/special_advice01/ Apparently the correct way to use the water wax is to first spray water on your fingers, run your wet fingers in the hair to make it wet, then use your hands to put the wax on the hair. idiolect Posted April 28, 2015 I think it's like that because it's so long... I just brush it regularly so it doesn't get tangled in the first place, unfortunately if you have to move her around a lot without brushing she's gonna get knots. Will a toothbrush work too? Maybe if you yank some of the hairs out? I just ask because I have lots of old toothbrushes laying around, haha.I've seen people recommend using a soft toothbrush for kids, not exactly sure why, I use a soft one personally but I never had a chance to compare with a normal one. On Miku I don't know, but my Kos-Mos has an unusually shaped head cap and wig fits are a bit problematic. Angardia Posted May 1, 2015 i have miku as well i noticed 2 things: 1. its damn hard to put the wig on 2. it gets messy by itself. couldnt find a good solution so far, but i got yesterday a lovely set of clothes with a hat, so she now wears a hat to keep the hair from getting messy. also my mom and my boyfriend helping me brushing her hair, we are doing it every 3-4 days so my only fear that in 3-4 months the wig will be on the brush ^^
Ravendruid Posted May 2, 2015 We keep my Miku's hair braided most of the time, which helps a lot, but I still need to pull it out of the braids and brush it every once in a while, as it still manages to mess itself. I'm pretty sure her hair is actually a mass of tentacles, each with a mind of their own, constantly battling each-other for control, so the winner can use her music to brainwash the Earth. Heye73 Posted May 21, 2015 Nice article on hair wigs! Truly, I just love using hair wigs. I have two pairs of curly hair wigs but one of them has started losing its curls. Can I use my Sedu’s best curling iron for making its curl again or it will destroy these hair altogether?
atomicwombat Posted June 8, 2015 To keep long or thin wigs nice BLAST them with hair oil spray. The stuff meant for humans is fine. Get them soaking wet then brush out. Otherwise brushing will create static and more tangles. Heat resistant wigs can be straightened or curled on low heat. I think all Volks wigs are heat resistant.
