How often do you get a new girl?

How often do you guys get a new girl?

Hmmm let's see... year one of this hobby it was about one every three months, year two was about the same, but then year three tapered off to only one new girl in the year, and year four is shaping out to be the same one girl a year. The beginning was the acquiring phase, then I slowed way down so I don't end up with too many to handle. Instead I'm in the tweaking and outfitting phase, where I decide who isn't up to my current standards and so needs new eyes/wigs/etc.

I seem to average just under one a year. 2010: Agatha. 2011: Nanoha. 2012: No one. 2013: Paid for Miku. 2014: Homura, plus Miku finally shipped--I'm counting her as 2013 because of when I *committed* to getting her, via payment, though.

 

A lot of people go through the pattern Jezrah described--heavy acquisition, then adjusting and customizing the ones they've got later--but I don't really fit it. A big part of it is managing budget, but the other part is that it takes a LOT for me to fall in love enough to push the "buy" button; it just doesn't happen all that often.

 

And then there's Baldylox's pattern, which is "adopt ALL the girls"!

Last year was my first full year (2013 - I was only in the hobby a few months) with dollfies and that ended with two new dolls arriving and two pre-ordered (although one was pre-ordered in 2013).

 

I'm currently going through the acquiring phase and I'm having a tough time stopping it (thanks, Saber Extra). So far this year, I have bought three dolls (only one was a fullset), pre-ordered another one that will arrive next year, have had a pre-order from 2013 come home, and I still have one more pre-order on the way later this year. I'll be up to seven by the end of the year and I have no plans to bring anyone else home.

 

...this year anyway.

I got my first Dollfie Dream in February this year, but I assume I will be investing in many more to come!

I currently have one on preorder (and I may or may not have been naughty and asked my family for an 05 head as a present~), but I think it's pretty safe to assume that the pattern I have for this hobby will be similar to my BJDs.

 

I will probably collect when I'm in the financial situation to do so and try very very hard not to blow all my money on new girls so that I can afford to get the ones I have customized to my liking. I'd also like to customize a boy eventually, but that wouldn't be for a long while.

 

It takes a lot for me to commit to buying something this size. My preorder was only because I'm fairly certain that I'll be able to scrap together the payment by next year and I like the security of knowing that I will have one. Beyond that, I'm hoping to start working on a custom girl this year. I'm keeping an eye on the market in case I see a head that I absolutely have to have.

For me it's varied. I want to say one every three to fours months last year, but this year it's been more like 1 every 1 & 1/2 months. That said there is only one remaining 'must have' on my list for now, so once I have her I probably won't be buying another for awhile. (For God's sake don't use me as your barometer though.)

 

It's not that there aren't others I would like, but they aren't a priority for me.

 

I'm going to focus on getting clothing and pulling together the parts I want for a few customs for the rest of the year.

 

It all depends on what Volks releases in the future though, and I do plan on going to the LA Dolpa. I'm sort of hoping they won't offer a doll I want so I can focus on getting clothing and other goodies.

 

If they put out Tsumugi and Ritsu from K-On or Ami, Rei, Minako from sailor moon they'd be taking more of my money for sure.

Short answer: too often

 

Long answer: 6 completed in a 12 month timeframe, with a spare body and a non faceupped head (probably two different new dolls)

I made a list a while ago of when I got my girls so I'd remember their B-days so looking thru that, my buying habits go as such:

 

2010 = 3

2011 = 8

2012 = 7

2013 = 8

2014 = 8

2015 = 1

 

So besides this year and my first year, it looks like my average is 8 girls per year. Good lord, that's sort of depressing AND sort of cool. My poor, poor wallet.....

Finally, after a long, but fruitful time, Merri arrived at the beginning of this year, along with some good tax returns, which also gave me the opportunity to get Yukiko!

 

Any plans on getting more down the road? I'd say no, but ask Billy how those plans work out!

And I was worried that I was buying too many....

I currently have six, though only two are "complete". Tentatively. Waiting on outfits for two, eyes for two, a custom head for one, need to fix the hands on my MDD since they're such a pain to change.

 

But, I got my first a year ago. So having six now, means one every two months. It's unsustainable since they're so expensive, and getting certain things (outfits particularly) is so troublesome for various reasons.

 

I'd like more, but money is always a limiting factor, space is becoming an issue, and I am a little frustrated with waiting so long on outfits or finding seamstresses with certain sizes to work with.

 

Oh, I have Sheryl on order, too. I plan to turn her in to somebody else. Since she's a DD3 instead of a DDS, getting her outfit done shouldn't be too hard.

 

So, six girls in a year. A seventh coming, and an 8th vaguely planned from spare parts I have. Will probably average out to one every three months, by the time those two are done.

I got my two Pureneemos before my two DDs, and both followed the same pattern.

Wait forever to get one, realize how amazing it is, and get a second 3- 5 months later. Then stop, so I can spoil whoI have.

So far I've bought two within a week or two of each other . . . I'm just starting out though. I know this beginning part will be more expensive. I don't really plan on picking up any more until Snow Miku arrives next year but we'll see how that goes. -_-()

Haha, looks like most spend their most at the initial phrase, for me I just bought miku at march and next week I'm planning to get my dds mayu ~.~

Good lord, I've only been at this about 3 years xD

 

My collection kinda exploded last year. Clio isn't a DD so I didn't count her xD

I got an 06 on a DDdy in May 2014, that was the first. Between then and now I had an 04, 05, 07 and 09 all on DDS bodies. In November I decided none of the normal heads were for me and started collecting Momo, Sakuya, Yoko, Asuna and Nanaho. So thats 5 heads and 3 bodies in 5 months. Thats scary to think about! To be fair I am 'trying' to have a rest from buying DD's atm lol!

Let's see not counting DDs I've rehomed or random floating heads...

Nothing so far this year I did preorder Ranka and Snow Miku though they won't be here for a while

 

Averages out to slightly under six a year, I think. I have almost all of the like already released dolls I want so now it's just watching for new releases although I do eventually want to get the 06 default girl.

2013 - 1

2014 - 4+1 head

2015 - 1+1 body

And if my plans for 2015 come true I'll add more 4 girls to my family.

2013- 4 finished: Dakota, Miss Lottie, Sohi, Ellie {with Bree, Lucas, Kiyoteru, & Lorelai started}

2014- 4 finished: Bree, Daisy, Miku, Ringo

2015- 1 finished so far: Lucas {Gizella (Ranka), Madison (Sheryl), Len & Rin Kagamine (Snow Mikus) on preorder, pre-roothed Volks head, & Kos-Mos head #2 started}

 

So to clarify, we have 13 DD with bodies, 4 on preorder, 5 floating heads, plans to buy the Smart Doll Boy when released, and giving my sister her first DD as a belated bday present (not counted above.)

This pretty much sums it up.

 

My biggest problem is being addicted to the customization. It is near impossible for me to not think of more characters to make. But don't take other people's habits as some odd way to 'play the game' of collecting. Everyone has their own pace and timing. And then there are some of us who just can't keep our families in control. (I still blame Naiomi... and now Miku.)

Yes, I came up with a list of almost 20 characters that I want to make as customs. That was just limiting myself to my absolute favorite series like Sailor Moon, and Ah My Goddess. I'm not even sure it would be possible to do Belldandy's hair with all those ahoge she has, but one simply has to try certain things.

I wrote up a 'Base 13' list a few years ago when I had the goal of getting one of each body type (there are more now) for sewing purposes. About a year and a half ago it had over 50 entries, and that was before I thought about the hybrid boy combinations...

 

I haven't counted it recently, but 6 that I've already started on were never even entered on the list. I have yet to add the Smart Doll boy customs on that list as well. Yep, I'm doomed to happiness. Now If I can just find the time to get some non-computer projects done for the DD I wouldn't feel like I'm just spinning my wheels.

Well uh I owned one. Then I ordered a second 4 months later and then a third 8 days later. Sooooo let's hope this slows down.

Two a year so far, including this year. But I think this year I will add two more...

 

Plus I still regularly add resin BJDs to my doll family. It's been a banner year so far. And expensive!!
