Dynamic poses: Stands or other home-fixes

Recommended Posts

I am curious as to what you prefer to use - if any - when it comes to more advanced poses. That is without showing the stands or your means towards achieving such poses.

Maybe there are transparent/"invisible" stands, specifically made for Dollfie Dreams or, well, close enough (I would welcome being pointed in that direction!).

Perhaps you use normal stands in some way or have made something of your own? I would still like to hear about it and see the results!

I know Mirai has a socket installed for a discrete stand. And I would like to clarify that I am looking for something along those lines - the more discrete types of solutions.

- While fishing lines are one solution, it is not always possible, due to your location, to manage with one (just so there is not just "fishing line!" "fishing line!" "Fishing line!" suggestions...).

Angles and positioning of bases is one basic thing that comes to mind. you can hide quite a lot behind a leg, and id imagine the metal volks, or clear perspex selens bases could be hidden in shallow puddles.

If working on soft surfaces, grass and whatnot, I think some photographers that dont resort to the dark arts of photoshopping might use a spike with a saddle stand that they can stick in the ground, and hide behind one of the dolls legs.

One idea that has come to mind is a bit more intrusive, if wanting a one legged leaning pose, i've considered a spike that goes through the dolls shoe (And/or Foot) for a rigid anchor on soft surfaces.

Not the best of examples of hiding the stand behind the sword:

We usually use normal stands that we try to hide the best and then remove completely via Photoshop.

If you know how to edit them out it's definitely the easiest way.

Anything else is like you mentioned it: find something to secure your doll with and hide it the best way possible via clothes, angles and limbs.

from just the right angle, anything can be hidden by the doll's legs

Grass or soft ground are super useful for this, as you can literally bury the stand in it...

But if you want something very Very dynamic, like a jump mid-air, some photoshop touch up will be happening no matter what

Teamwork:

If a lady by herself wont stand up in a pose, I've done a few arrangements where both dolls are leaning against each other to balance them out:

Locking diffs joints, and generally pushing it.

Just try to see how far you can go without stands, and exploring the traits of the bodies, tightening up joints for more stability, and also DD2's arms have a amusing feature of being able to lock the shoulder in a slight upward position and then arranging the rest of the joints so they dont bend downwards:

So I guess it comes down to getting the right kind of stand then.

Indoors you can get away with not using a stand, but it could be harder outside, due to uneven ground...

But it is an interesting suggestion with the spikes, finnleo!
