Heads to Fit on MDD

Recommended Posts

Kirahfaye

I'm leaning more toward a MDD for my first vinyl girl, but I'm not all that attracted to Rena's toothy little smile. I looked in the Database, but only came across 2 DD heads that were put on MDD bodies successfully. Is that all? I'd really appreciated any suggestions and, if at all possible, photos of any heads that also work well for the MDD body. Thanks!

It may help to know which heads you consider to be a successful match. The more common standard heads for MDD are generally 01, 03, 04, and 06. An 08 or 09 would probably be cute too. Personally I have a custom 01 head MDD, she's Mitsuki in my signature. A lot of the cuter styled limited heads can be put on MDD bodies, like Manaka, Miu, Sakuno, and even Mai.

There's quite a few DD heads that work nicely on the MDD body so don't give up!

Here are some examples of what you can use:

A very old post I did using a Mai Shiranui, Yoko Littner, an 04, an 02 and an 01 head.

And here are some others I have.....

Louise, she comes on an MDD body from Volks:

Nami is a closed eye 03 head:

From left to right: 01, 04, 01 and Volks prepainted 01.

Custom 01 white skin and a default Volks 04 prepainted head.

Another custom 01:

And a Mashiro!

Lastly, a cute pic just to be cute.

So as you can see, there's plenty of heads to choose from to put on the MDD body and have her turn out cute. Most people use the 01 heads tho because they are so easy to customize and make adorable. I certainly love my 01 girls!

Hopefully these pics will help you out a little.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I have an SQLab head on my MDD;

They suit MDDs, but are probably a bit small for larger bodies. Also a huge variety of them to give you many more options.

Admittedly not very anime/manga.

Thanks for all the info! I do like the 01 and 04 for customizing. The character is going to be a sprite-like being so she is supposed to look "other worldly". I have plenty of time to continue learning about vinyl dolls since I have to wait for finances first.

There's also Out of Base: http://doll.shop-pro.jp/?mode=cate&cbid=1342532&csid=6 You need a proxy to order from this site, sadly, but some of the heads are quite cute.

The M series heads are made specifically for MDD/Obi40; they take size 7/8 wigs. You do need to get your own 5mm-diameter magnets for it, but I found literally a pack of 100 on eBay for about $7 with shipping, so that's not too bad.

The place to get magnets is K & J Magnetics. You can get the size, quantity, and pull strength you want at very reasonable prices.

There are some really cute doll heads there - I just wish I could understand the website.

Oh, and .... magnets?

Oh, and .... magnets?

Out of Base heads are made of resin, so they use magnets to hold the headcap on. (Though you can use poster tack in a pinch. ) Each head takes four 5mm magnets: front and back head, and front and back headcap. This should be true for the non-M heads too.

As for eyes, I only have an M02, but for that one I can say eye size range is probably 14mm-18mm. I so need to get her a body; she was originally going to be Homura, but Homura decided her Azone head was all she needed, so poor M02's been in a mason jar for over a year. XD

And yeah, Dollce's site is kind of wonky, even if you know a bit of Japanese. :/ (There's a part where eyes, wigs, and clothes are all accessed from the same page, but the heads aren't.) You sort of have to poke it until you find something you want, and then send the link for that to your proxy of choice. ^^; But if you happen to fall in love with one of those heads or wigs, odds are it's worth it.

I've never used a proxy, but I have a couple of local doll friends who have, so if I go that route I can have them hold my hand.

Oh and those heads are resin? Okay, that's another good thing to remember, then.
