i want to buy a carrying case for my dollfie and I've heard off people buying carrying case meant for other items but that works well also to carry your dollfie and wanted to know if it better to buy the case from volks or look into other options out there

We've been thinking about getting a hold of one of the SD/DD carrying cases from Volks, but at the same time, I've been working on converting the case for Black Ops 2. You know, the black and orange thing? Should be able to fit 2 dolls and accessories when I'm done.

The most important thing is to make sure the inner lining is white. There are cheap doll cases from Chinese BJD makers/etc with black linings, and I've seen DDs get stained from them.

As a warning some of Volks cases also can stain. I have a all black one that does have a inner black lining and it will stain.

The easiest way around this is just to get something around your doll. Wrap in a blanket or doll pillows. Or you could even use the protective plastic that they come with. Just whatever.

There is a large variety of cases through Dollmore that I personally quite liked. I also think if you are up for the task converting certain cases could be fun. I knew someone who got a gorgeous violin case and converted it.

I use one of these:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Contico-26-in-Structural-Foam-Flat-Roof-Tool-Box-8260BK-1/202559503

It's made of a thick, rigid structural foam, not light weight injection molded plastic. It's water resistant

(but not immersible), lockable, and strong enough for a big guy to sit or stand on without worry of it cracking or crushing. Unlike a soft bag there's no worries about the case taking a beating and transferring the impacts directly to the dolls inside and it can't be easily punctured or slit open with a knife like a soft bag. I took the dividers and handle out of the tray to add another level for more dolls and added a quilt/blanket to pad the inside and wrap around the dolls. I've had it for several years and can get three to four dolls inside, depending on their size.

I've got a picture somewhere...Here they are.

Case001.jpg

It's seen some mileage.

Case002.jpg

The top tray with all the partitions and handle removed (dremeled!). Room enough for two smaller girls (Obitsu 50cm and MDD) or tons of accessories.

Case003.jpg

Bottom holds two 50cms easily. DD's are a bit bigger so they might have to rest on their sides and spoon a bit.

Case004.jpg

Square "U" bolts added to ends of top tray for handling/removal.

That is quite the heavy duty case! Nobody's getting hurt in there...

I've heard of people using bags meant to carry yoga mats and then just wrapping the DD (or other BJD) in fluffy blankets for protection. A bonus is all the colours and patterns that can be found.

Added the pictures to my first post.

It is "heavy duty" but not real heavy in weight. The structural foam is very light and strong. I never have to worry about the girls taking a beating during transport. Also it's kind of boring looking and doesn't attract attention like a bright pink duffel bag.

I use a 28" tripod carrying case I got on eBay for my girls. It was like 15USD and black lined but I just sewed in white lining. It seems pretty water resistant and has some decent padding though mostly just on top and bottom of it, it even has a side pouch for me to put some stuff in . I can fit both of my girls in it pretty easily but if I want to add padding only one of them can fit. Even if I think they are safe from minor mishaps I still am very careful carrying them and I only went this route cause I'm cheap can't justify spending more than 30usd on a simple carrying case haha.

Hey, silverredgreen, if you haven't checked it out yet, here's the finished walkthrough for the inner lining. Not the cheapest route I could have gone, but, I think, a more reliable one.

I have a cute little mini duffel bag that I use to hold my dolls. I just make sure to line it with soft, white, doll blankets, and carry it around carefully (aka, not swinging it anywhere).

It works really well, even though sometimes the dolls legs bend a bit during travel. No big deal, really. I just take them out and put them in the pose I want once I get to my destination.
