Touhou - Wakasagihime. Mermaids possible?

Continuing my Touhou girls, I have begun this project.

I have ordered a curly blue wig. I have also commissioned some headfins to go over her ears. I have eyes in mind but not yet ordered since this is going to take a long while anyway.

 

I'm also undecided if I should do her on a DD3 body or give her Dy hips. (she'll be L busted either way).

 

However, I am having trouble finding someone to make the tail. Two people I have contacted had said it sounds too difficult for them, and two others I have worked with are otherwise busy.

 

Essentially, I figured the best idea would be to take her feet/shins off, and have her thighs go in to something that is essentially a pair of shorts, for fitting around her waist. Then have the outer layer made of a blue/grey silk or satin. It should probably be stuffed lightly to give it some form, so essentially a plushy. Then perhaps lace for the tailfins.

 

I'm open to suggestions on how best to go about this, and recommendations (or volunteers) for people who can do it.

Your idea sounds pretty interesting. Does it have to be shorts though? Could it not simply just fasten someway around the waste? I mean, it'd be covered up anyways you know? :> At least I remember the outfit in the front covering it up pretty nicely.

I think your idea for the mermaid tail is good, personally i created a stop motion puppet which is a mermaid and i used the same method (metal wire+sponge) in my modest opinion i would go for a ddy hips to make the tail seem more thin in the final area where flips are attached even if it's not that much slim for tailfins probably some iridescent organza could do the trick, and it you add thin metal wire you can move and manipulate their shape

Well, by shorts I simply mean sockets in the tail for the thigh parts to go in to. Doesn't matter what it actually looks like or how it is made, as long as it fits snugly.

 

That one looks great. I'd be happy with one of those if she does actually make them.

 

Using my 03, which is currently a Yukino, but I am going to get it made up to be a unique Hime.

One more vote for Dy, I was thinking the same.

 

I'm not sure what sort of material would be best for the fins. I was thinking lace simply because it is already patterned. I had thought about wiring it to give it shape, too, though that again depends on the seamstress I get to make it and how they are working with wiring something instead of just sewing it. Finding people to sew is always the hardest part with any custom. >.<

Bumping this in hope people can or know someone to do this tail. I really want her. >.

This sounds really awesome. I'll vote for the DDdy hips as well and second the organza for the tailfin. Organza naturally has a 'fin' look to it with a nice shine.

I'd totally love to try this, but I don't have a DDdy to fit it on, and nice fabrics for this type of thing are impossible to come by in my country. :/

Yeah, I will use a DDdy body for her. The wig I ordered ended up entirely the wrong colour, so I'll need to get a new one in a better blue. But the project is at a standstill until I can find someone to make the tail.

Bumping again, because I have her headfins completed, but I still need to find someone who can make a tail. I've tried eight folks now, several of whom have already done mermaids but are too busy to do any commissions. >.<

Obviously a pullip head but I am assured they are the same size as DD heads. I measured and photographed my DD ears for her to socket.

 

Sooo. Anyone know anyone who could make a tail?

I'm fairly certain I could create a mermaid tail in a similar style to the one mentioned here on flickr. I even have a pattern in mind since I've wanted my own mermaid girl for a while as well. My only issues would be that I don't have a DDdy girl so I could only create one for a DDIII and I'm not sure if my local fabric store would have the perfect material or not. If you're interested in talking more about it PM and we can discuss it

However, I am still looking for someone to do her kimono, and her tail (can be two separate people!) as I never found anybody for the kimono, and the person who started the tail hasn't replied in about two months so I figure that is a bust.

Possibly this for the kimono, if you know how to/someone who could sew it? I'm not sure how you wanted the kimono, so I figured this might help if it's close to what you had in mind. As for the tail, I'm not really sure, sorry. ^^; And the pattern is mainly for bjds, but maybe it could fit a DD? I'm not sure on what clothes sizes DDs take and I don't have one to try it on or to try to make the pattern for, so this may be a shot in the dark if it's what you want to try.

I'm looking to replace her wig, since the one I have has so many uncontrollable strays. I don't mind using a non-canon style, but teal/aqua wigs tend to be really rare, aside from the colour I'm already using on my Kyouko. Does anyone know of any stores that have "fantasy" colours in nice styles?

 

I've exhausted Formydoll and Wigs2Dolls. Browsed Crobi and Leeke without any luck. So are there others around I should try?

Ah, I didn't spot that. Thanks. Ordered it. Really cheap anyway (wig+shipping cheaper than just wig alone from most other stores) -- will see how it fits, and what the quality is like.

I'd love to see pictures when it arrives! They have a nice variety of wigs, so I'm interested to hear what you think of the quality.
