Dolls in public in daily life ?

Recommended Posts

Mysha

Hi!

I would like to know how many of you (or is it just me??) take your girls with you in public places such as cinemas or shopping centers.

I love to take my doll with me when I'm out for a lunch, doing a shopping, going to walks etc. Recently I started to think if it isn't just too weired even for dolls community members. Would it be more appropriate to just bring her out only for photoshoots?

I would appreciate if you share your thoughts and experiences.

I've only had my dolls out in public when I was doing either a doll meet or a photo shoot. Altho a few times I *have* had one ride in the passenger seat with me to the post office before. But normally if I'm going grocery shopping or something similar, I don't bring them along because I think they would present more of a problem for me by getting in the way while shopping and what not. But if others like you are comfy with it, by all means, more power to ya!

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Generally I only take my girls out for a photo shoot, meeting, or a con. But a ccouple of times I did take one with me to a craft store because I needed their whole body to compare the scale of the patterns on fabric. I'm not against taking them out or anything, I just generally feel it's too much effort for a daily basis.

You know, I would love to do that, so I envy your courage!

But at the same time, I agree with the fact that it could be a hassle (especially since I prefer to be left alone)... I would have to settle with carrying my girl around in a carry-case, if I am out on a photo-run.

May I ask, in turn, if you have ever been discouraged from bringing your doll? And was it easy for you to bring your doll at the beginning?

At the beginning, yes - it was easy. It was natural for me to just take her with me everywhere (I used to do that with my new toys when I was a child). But as the time passes and I receive more discouraging comments (that people look at me strangely, thinking I'm freak to go everywhere with a doll etc) I take her with me less and less.

i wont take her out for few reasons:

1. it is weird for me to walk on the street with a huge doll (im 26)

2. its not comfortable to walk with her

3. she costed me too much for her to get dirty or ruined.

thats my opinion!

That is really sad to hear...

I just remembered about once, when I got a ride from my mom to a place outside town - to take photos - I had the doll in my lap, and it felt so very comforting in some way. So it is a shame that someone would have to feel bad or discouraged from having their doll around in public, if the dolls bring them some kind of comfort.

But I think it is an overall hard topic... - On the one hand there is the "Grow up!" and on the other "Let me live how I want".

I agree that it becomes a hassle when you're doing tasks like grocery shopping or moving of any kind. But out in public like at the mall or taking a walk, it feels like any other person who carries a purse puppy or a bird on their shoulder. They're not walking them, they just have them perched or bagged lol. As for being looked at weird or looked down carrying your doll/s around, I see them as more envious knowing that if they did it, they'd "ruin" reputation they never had. Feel proud and stand tall, your little ones are doing it, why shouldn't you? Heck, I'd bring my girls to work if I knew no one would steal them lol.

I have taken my dolls out primarily for photography reasons, and events. I used to venture out quite a lot with them and that was when I collected resin and yellowing was a far bigger issue! (You name it I probably brought them with me.) My high school graduation photos even have a doll with me! XD

My experience was that everyone pretty much thought they were weird. Some old ladies adored them, but otherwise it'd be general opposition. This isn't why I stopped bringing them out though. My view just changed.

I view my dolls partially as an investment, so I reduced time out with them. I consider their value too much to put at risk to the general public even if they don't know it. I do however believe it liberating to carry your doll around and "stick it" to all those that believe you aren't allowed such things as adults. I understand falling back into the security of not being scrutinized by strangers, but I prefer a rebellious opinion. And in that case it is win-win. You can have your girl out and you can take pride in allowing yourself to be yourself. A rare quality imo.

I like to take my girls to my local comic shops and game stores as they get a kick out of Seein them beings most of them are avid figurine collectors themselves.

As for the looks I get in public, I'm not too concerned about it as I dress in a less than normal fashion to begin with. What with my punk rock band tshirts, studs, spikes, chains, patches...top it off with a dollfie who's clothes are far more expensive than what mine are and I get some fun looks lol.

Probly the only problem I get is people who think it's a perverse hobby what with all the horrible "waifu pillow" dilemma America claims to have. But regardless I've never let them bother me before. Ain't gonna start bugging me now. Kudos to those who take dollfies everywhere I say. The more people r exposed to them the more normal they shall be perceived

I used to carry a doll with me kinda everywhere when I first got into them. I think one of the last times I took a doll anywhere besides fabric shopping, photo shoot, or doll meet was when me and a friend went to a store and someone tried to walk off with our shopping cart her doll in the top seat.

Would've said it was an accident, but it's hard to miss a 60cm resin doll in the top of a cart with nothing else. She started walking off with it, and when I grabbed the cart with a firm grip and stopped her from moving it further as , she let go and kept walking and vanished.. No, "oh, so sorry, my mistake" or even a look in our direction.

After that I really just didn't feel comfortable taking my dolls regular shopping.

I just smile and wave when people stare if I'm out taking pictures with a doll. Never forget the time I went downtown by myself to shoot some pics of my boys. Cars started driving slowly by, pointing, staring, shushing kids that asked why that lady's taking pictures of a doll. lmao it was special. I just made sure got good piccus xD

I have had my doll out in public here in Korea. I got a LOT of weird looks. I didn't really care as I was doing a photo shoot and all I had at the time was a camera and my dollfie. Doing, so I meet several people. It can be good as I think I made one couples day, as I took their picture for them on their phone.

Aside from the occasional weird look I haven't had any trouble bringing them out. Just keep the quantity small (One, or two if you have something for them to sit in on you) and keep them in sight and close so no one can run off with them.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Miku has tried on many occasions actually. She loves to try and slip out of my arms but she never succeeds even if she comes close. She also loves to jump off of the dresser where she stays.

i know this link is two years old, but i thought id bring it up on the subject since its relative lol.

http://www.dramafever.com/news/forever-alone-a-man-who-is-dating-a-doll-took-her-to-tokyo-disneyland/

i found this while googling dd related stuff, stopped to read this and felt that the person writing the story was coming off as judgmental(judging from the name of the site its not a surprise) but as i went thru the comments i got a more positive vibe from it. of course youll see comments from people saying its creepy n such, but i was excited to see people saying to either "let 'em live" as some would say, or just general support for the guy the article was written about.

i was also intrigued as it was a genuine dollfie dream that was in the article so i felt more connected to the story i guess.

(if anyone has already posted this link in another post, i apologize, i was just genuinely excited about this)

I feel really embarrassed if I have my dolls out and about, so I don't generally bring them place with me unless I have to. On occasion, I do bring them to fabric stores to check scale of printed fabric. More often, I'll just bring one of their hands in my pocket to surreptitiously make sure something will work.

However, I did recently get my own office at work, and I display one of my DD's in there now. I also have a bunch of figures as well as two Love Live! wall scrolls in there, so she's not that remarkable given the context. So far, nobody's said anything negative. But, I work in tech, so a lot of my coworkers are geeky types who like anime and action figures.

I only bring my dolls out if there is a meet up or a con. Not because I'd be embarrassed but rather I'd be worried about something happening to one of my dolls. Even at cons I make sure to never put my doll down because unfortunately people do steal dolls. I won't even answer questions on pricing for any my dolls unless its a friend for similar reasons.

I don't have a DD yet but I do take my resin BJD out to random places with me sometimes. She's been grocery shopping with me several times as well as shoe shopping, to my university, conventions, friends' houses, and just out and about the city (that's usually for photo shoots/looking for good places for photo shoots though).

I really like taking her places and would imagine that taking a DD places would be easier (as they're lighter) and just as much fun so I would totally do that too!

I took Katsu (ddh01/mdd) to a doll meet at Hyper Japan expo this year. I held her for a while, while walking round and got some 'omg isn't she cute' from a few girls. Mainly though I just got looked at fairly strangely!! There were people all around cosplaying and I even saw a six foot man dressed as Sailor Mars yet I seemed to get weird looks because I was carrying a doll!!

I like to bring my DD every time I go on vacation or when i go to the place which is great for taking photos...

I dont think this is weird, I dont care what people think, I would regret it if I go to an interesting place and I did not bring my DD to take a photo...

this is her last trip (last week)

I actually took Miku to Bookmans with a friend of mine yesterday! On the Car ride we were waiting at a stop light and some construction guys we're pointing and laughing. Whether they meant it meanly or not I couldn't tell. At the store though She got a lot of compliments and even one girl who just went wide-eyed, said "Yesss!" and rushed off before I could even react. all and all a good day. If someone laughs at you for something like that they're just judgmental and likely insecure about themselves. Why else would they put others down over silly differences? Either way I think people should do what they like so long as it doesn't involve hurting people.

I don't take my dolls anywhere. Mainly because I can be forgetful and accidentally leave them or bump into things and horrible things happen. They're quite safer at home lodging around.

if my dream ever comes true and i get to own a comic shop/video game store, at least one of the girls will accompany me to work every day! lol. i do love taking them out and i regret not being able to take them to myrtle beach with me this year as the weather was great and it wasnt too crowded and would have been excellent for photo opportunities!

I take Miku out with me all the time; I mean after all, I like to go shopping, she likes shopping...so take the princess shopping (lol). I always make sure she comes home with at least one souvenir from her trip too.

Heck, I usually call it "going on a date" with her lol, just for fun.

Then again though, I'm a figure photographer, so I'm used to constantly taking dolls and figures out with me and I already dress "weird" enough to not give a crap about any ignorant people around me.

To be honest though, I've actually gotten 99.9% positive reactions to my girl so far (people either saying she's adorable, recognizing her character, telling me how they also are into dolls, asking me where to buy one, etc), with that .1% going to anyone I happened to not notice making a funny face somewhere I couldn't see them.
