Gunter Posted May 5, 2015 I couldn't find a thread on this (too many results was blocking me >: ), so I'm just asking. I feel silly askin' this, but I wanted to go about this right so I don't end up regretting anything. I've never extensively taken apart any type 2 body (never had a need) and so I'm in need of a recommendation on how to go about this. So with that, refer to title question. What is the best method to take apart a DDdy2 body? I imagine a blow dryer is going to be super useful for me. I don't need anything super detailed, just a run down of the safest method to do this and maybe a good recommendation on the easiest way to put back together...? I'm prepping to dye and I realized I needed to take this body pretty much totally apart! XD Thank you to anyone who can help me out! :> JUST TO CLARIFY: I mean like, take it apart from the skeleton entirely. NOt just like, how to remove arms or legs. Just like, the entire deal off the internal skeleton.
Error-Chan Posted May 5, 2015 Well like you have said its going to be a hair dryer and just easing the vinyl off. all I can say is just watch the heat on the harder plastic it can get toast if your not carful so best to keep it a cool heat to not damage the doll or your self. pharaviel Posted May 5, 2015 It should be the same as the dd2, thare is a video on youtube
Gunter Posted May 5, 2015 Thank you! That video is really handy. I just need to detach the joint parts that are gonna show because obviously those will be dyed for a far less time from the rest of the body. So thank you again~ I just wanted to be sure I was doin' this right. The body is modded (with a different bust) so I just felt like I wanted to be extra careful. ^^;; Strike that question, I figured it out. Thighs work differently DDdy....but even with hair dryer it doesn't seem like some of these parts wanna let go of each other oTL; This body is gonna be hell to put back together oTL;;

Innocentsake Posted May 20, 2015 I watched that same video that pharaviel linked because I'm wanting to get the legs off my DDdyII in hopes of tightening them (Melon's legs are extremely floppy at the hips). Whoever made that video made getting those legs off look so easy (like taking the legs off a DDIII body). I tried to do exactly like that person did in their video, but those legs would not budge one bit. I even applied heat with the hairdryer and it seemed to do no good at all. Hopefully someone with more experience can shed some light on getting these bodies apart completely. I know the first person that comes to mind is Mitsuki and I actually did message her, but I don't think she's online a lot since I haven't gotten a response. For now Melon will just have to remain Ms. Floppy XD
Gunter Posted May 20, 2015 Honestly, it is cause the thigh part works nothing like any other bodies. Instead of the standard part, they have a ball joint that the thigh goes around AS WELL as the usual part, issue is it is down in the center of the thigh. It is the most frustrating thing ever and I'm pretty darn sure it is impossible to put back together yourself. It is barely possible to take it apart alone. Took me nearly half an hour, and I can't put it back. Warning, NSFW angle: http://puu.sh/hU23l/ac7c6a8f47.jpg
Innocentsake Posted May 20, 2015 Yeah after trying about 3 different times I just gave up on it~ That video of the DDII being taken apart just totally boggles my mind when it comes to the legs being taken off so easily. If only I could get Melon's legs off and I could thicken up those pegs the legs slide onto. Maybe one day I'll be able to get it, but for now Melon will just have to deal with her wobbly legs

It is easy cause all he has to do is slide the leg out off the peg the same way you would for a DD3 after all. Some reason the DDdy2 needed a different mechanism. I'm tempted to sand down the actual hole of the thigh and see if it'll help make that easier to not only slide on, but also position so it can get the peg. ALSO, Volks, you just wanted to make people suffer, didn't you? Do you believe we are all masochists?! I oTL;;

I misunderstood earlier and was assuming it looked exactly how the internal frame for the DDII. Makes sense now why it doesn't slide out as easily when I've tried. Let us know how your experiment works out! And yeaaaah I agree Volks likes to make us suffer greatly XD Did you have old ragtimey music playing in the background while doing it? Lol!!! Maybe if I had I would've done better
Gunter Posted May 21, 2015 Ah yeah, I was wondering. That's why I have the picture. ^^;; That's the mechanism for this particular body. Totally different. The peg is within the thigh, so you have to push that item not only into the thigh, but also line up the peg. It makes the task daunting. I love Volks but sometimes I question them. We suffer so much for our love for them. oTL;;

jadepixel Posted May 21, 2015 Ugh I feel your pain >.< I'm not sure how representative that video is, with my DD2 the thigh armature was the hardest part to remove. Only from that video was I sure it was possible! Took at least 20 minutes of alternating hair dryer, and pulling/wiggling 'til the post was worked loose. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

From that video I have a feeling he/she had probably taken that body apart many times before which is why it came off so easily in the video. Luckily my DDII bodies their legs aren't horribly loose just the DDdyII that Melon is on. I'll be happy when I can upgrade her body even though every DDdyIII body I've gotten always has one leg that won't stay on because the peg it slides onto isn't thick enough. Ah well that fix is a breeze compared to the torture of trying to take a DDdyII apart~
Gunter Posted May 29, 2015 It happens Have you tried sanding it or not yet? Not yet. I'm about to forgo my idea and just upgrade the body so I don't have to deal with it. I think if I need to be dying the body I need it be at least a LITTLE easy to take apart. XD
tarasska Posted December 10, 2018 I'm sorry for digging this fossil topic and bringing it up, but did anyone after all succeed in taking that DDdy2 apart? I'm facing the same problem right now. Bought a doll that reeks of cigarette smoke, my voluptuous baby needs a bath badly. I can't pull her hips off and take off the the upper part of the frame. Used the hairdryer. It just seems to have a different construction than DDdy3. I have a bunch of DDdy3 and DD3 - no problem disassembling them. Kanu Uncho on DDdy2 - same problem as above, but I have no business to bathe her for now.

I did get the leg off a DDDy2 once. . . and I swear to god if I have to do it again I'll just buy her a new body. She's NS though, so you wouldn't have that option with Kanu. That thigh joint is SNUG. In my case it took hairdryer + me pulling with both hands on her thigh joint while my mom pulled the other way with both hands on her lower body. New swear words were invented that day. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

It took me 2 people to re-string a 1/2 size doll once, but who could've thought it takes two to tango take apart a vinyl doll. Thank you for sharing your experience - I'll skip the trouble and give up right away. I separated what I could from the frame and threw everything, including inseparable frame pieces, in a vinegar solution overnight. In the morning I will rinse it and use my hairdryer to dry it inside. If the screws corrode... well, then my Nanoha Takamachi will get yet another new body. I purchased the perfect head separately and then the problematic Dynamite body. As for my Kanu Uncho - she never smoked, what a good girl! Taking into consideration that she's TanSkin, I don't want to mess with her at all.
Innocentsake Posted December 11, 2018 I was finally able to disassemble my original DDdy body back in March of this year. It's hard to do since the internal part of the shins is attached to the internal thigh parts via screws up inside the thigh so you can't just take the two pieces apart easily like the newer bodies. So what I did was I removed the outer vinyl of the shin. And used a hairdryer on the outer vinyl of the thigh till it was super soft from the heat. Once that was done I pulled the outer vinyl of the thigh as low onto the leg as I could so I could grasp the ball of the internal frame of the thigh. From there I pulled until it finally came off. The reason it's so hard to get it off is because the peg which the legs slide onto is split at the end unlike the DDdyIII where the peg is whole and smooth. When I get a chance I'll take a picture of that part of the frame. I removed it and swapped it for a spare new torso internal frame so I wouldn't have to deal with that again.
