Custom fibre wigs.(Update idea help. First page. 31/7/15)

Update 31/7/15:

I have got a little stock in now so I am going into the shop part of this now. I am looking for.

 

Shop name? I am not really sure what I should call the shop =?

 

Banners/icon/theme> I have a small wip for a banner and icon but think I may get the icon commissioned so ideas on something that would sum up my shop would be lovely.

 

Work amount? I don't want to over do the amount I take in at one go so I my work on slots per month not sure. I will work on my own so I was thinking three per slot amount BUT if I complete the three then I could open one or two if requested.

 

ALL the writing XD I will need to write all the terms and conditions and so on so I will be working on that.

I really loved making Errors wig and I am planning on making a new wig for El and Error too. I was talking with my mum about it and she agreed I was good at making the wig and I said about making a shop to make custom wigs one day. she thought for a little and said she and my dad would be willing to help with a starter fund to make the shop. So I just wanted to know what others think of this.

 

Would you think the market for custom fibre wigs is large enough?

What would you spend on a custom hand made fibre wig? (custom colour and possibly style too. it would be fully your choice on colour)

 

What colours would be the best to get is stock. ( I am thinking all natural colours then a handful of bright colours for ether streaks or full colour wigs.)

 

Anything you have to add will help a lot. I am confident that i can make the wigs in a 1-2 weeks (it took me 3 days non stop to make Error's wig but that was after a week and a bit of waiting for the hair to arrive.)

well so far I have my first wig I made for my Error.

 

as you said I could not get the green wig without bangs in the right length so I made this. I am saving atm to get some more hair to make my next one.

Not all fibres are heat resistant but the shop I am going to get my hair from and possibly buy my stock will be heat resistant.

 

The style I think I will be able to work with but the layout for the hair probably would mean it can't be put down without looking odd BUT I can have a think and see what I can do. if you are ok with the stitching showing like the image you posted I will be able to do that and get the curl in the hair too.

 

My sister is a professional hair dresser so if it was needed I could pay her a bit to style and cut the hair so that can be a option to add to this.

I am working out pricing on a piece of paper atm. I am almost at the amount I need to buy the supplies to make my next two wigs then I will start releasing info now what I can do.

 

 

"unnatural colour (goldenrod) with a yellow streak in the bangs." <- I should be able to get un natural colour for you and I am working out streak pricing too.

 

" Layered bangs and a low ponytail of 3 braids."<- If you need the hair layering it would probably come under a "Cut" so it would be extra since I would have to get my sister to cut it professionally. Braids I know how to do normal plats and French plats unless you mean another type =P

 

When I do open shop I think if the buyer can supply images (Or some photos as reference.) it will help the idea come together.

I think I've bought like 10 wigs trying to get one that will work on jenn... has to be bluish-purple... long with long bangs... parted on her right with the crown on the same side so I'm not going against the wefts. I also have to edit whatever wig I DO find because I need to put a specific color blue streak into it in her bangs.

 

I would love a custom wig maker. lol.

Indeed it was hella to find anything for my girl in a really long green with no bangs x.x so I know your pain

 

I have bought my blue/fiery hair and some Green to make Error a new wig so I will have a mix of hair to play with and I will let you guys know how I get on and so. I will soon photo my pricing to show what my thought are on prices and feedback is welcome when I do.

 

I did talk to my sister and she let me know that she would be OK with cutting and styling (curling straitening and so on small styling I may be able to do that my self)

she would like £5 for cutting and for styling it may depend on what is needed but she said she will wait to see what people are wanting

Error first wig was from a human wig company and though the colour is nice the binding at the top of the weft is a brown colour so for light colours and non natural the binding is quite visible sadly.

there selection of colours and lengths are really nice and the top of the weft is very blended to the hair colour so should not be as visible ad the other hair I used.

 

most of the hair they have is heat resistant so good for styling but they do have lots that are already curled or a fleecing type so if needed I can use them too. I want to make the two wigs with hair form here first to see how it is in person then if its good enough I would look to get in contact and see if they can do a large order for a good price

I don't like coolcat wefts, I have some of it here it feels very thin and flimsy, it doesn't feel as thick and full as some of the other weft or loose fiber I have. The fibers are very fine compared to those found in a leeke wig or any other wig I have.

Ah that's good to know. I would like to get the best I can for the hair side since its the main part of the wig.

 

I got my shipment e-mail last night so 7-20 days until I get my hair form the etsy seller so I am existed to get them started soon.

 

something you guys can help with in the mean time is wig caps. I will be making them my self to keep costs of the cap down but I wondered what colours people would like. I would like to stay away from any staining colours so the more neutral and whites I would like to go for but would others like the darker colours for the dark hair so the wig cap is more "invisible" in the hair lines.

It's definitely great to see someone willing to make custom wigs Sometimes it's just impossible to find the exact wig for a character you're creating from the wig shops that are already out there. Especially since a lot of the time characters have very stylized hair & color. As long as the price wasn't a crazy amount (like Black Swan for example) I would be very interested in getting a custom wig

 

Just for future reference do you think you could make a wig to look like Sakura from Card Captor Sakura?

And to answer your question about wig caps I prefer for them to be a nude/beige colors. I wouldn't mind the color of the wig cap being dark if it didn't stain or the staining was very minimal. A few of my girls already came to me with stained heads so for them I don't mind as much. But for those who aren't stained I do try not to stain their heads, but hey it happens~

I think if I remember right volks makes doll hair stuff to stiffen it bit I will.see if I can get some.in the UK first. The styling it's whole should be easily done and the length my sister should be able to do that.

 

The wigs sewing would probably be done to it can't be taken out of the hairbands but a short brown wig can be bought cheap if you needed one with hair down.

I'd actually prefer the hair to not be stiff since I don't care for wigs that have that sort of product in it permanently. I'm glad to hear that on a whole her wig wouldn't be difficult to make.

 

SAKURA COLOR has an amazing Kinomoto Sakura they made from a modded Volks Super Dollfie Rio. I really love the way their Sakura's wig looks. Here's a link to the site:

Also they have the hair left down in the back that way they can put the hair into pigtails if they want. While I know it couldn't be exactly the same since you don't know how the wig was made, but I would definitely want it to be very similar. Haha yeah well for her hair I would think to get the look without products it might be a small bit of foam under the hair wefts to give it that slightly higher part on the hair above the bangs.

 

it will take a bit of trial and error most likely but playing with the design in my head should be easy I cant sleep quickly so my brain normally ticks over and works these things out. I have already been looking in to how to make the partings since I don't have the slight plastic type of thing in the parting that my old green wig has but I thing I can work something out for that.

cool I am glad your interested too ^o^ the more the merrier and it lets me know that this will work well.

 

looking about at the colours that I have found the colour to go closest with her hair is a 25cm long bundle so it would be under the medium length hair then it would need a cut to get the length and bangs right. So at my price sheet as it is at the moment it would be about £26 then +£6 for my sister to cut it.

 

but if I keep a look out I may come across a shorter hair to it would bring the price down ( the longer the hair on the weft the more it costs so if I could get a short hair weft it would bring it down to £22 not £26)
