Atlanta, GA BJD Convention Nov. 20-22 2015

According to their website the full weekend is $45/head at the door, and there is a one-day pass but no price is disclosed. Seeing as how the con starts in two days, I'm hoping they post a schedule so I know whether to show up on Friday or not for some of the workshops I want to do, or if they'll be held Saturday as well. I had originally planned to just go for the panel and meetups and such on Saturday, and I'm curious how much cost/value a one-day pass would give for what I want to do versus going the full weekend.

 

Roger that on not enough information available to worry about arranging a swap meet in close proximity to the panel. Makes sense! Save it for the gathering.

 

Oh, so you didn't already have a stained DD available to show off? Sweet, we actually hit on a way to contrubute! I can bring her, no problem. Aoko's aren't super heavy, but they'll certainly give folks an idea about how it looks and where they might occur most often as a result of clothing. I'll bring the outfit for comparison, just in a bag on the side.

OK, so it looks like the schedule came out around 1:30 AM on the con's Facebook page. It's a series of screencaps of Excel spreadsheets. Oh my.

 

The Vinyls panel is 10-11:45am on Saturday in the Main Events room. (it's followed by Basic Lolita Fashion in the same room at 12). The con seems to have its own built-in swap meet in a different panel room, once per day first thing in the morning.

 

No published word on one-day ticketing though.

Hey thanks for that update! I'm not on FB so I can't see their page but as soon as the GF gets up, I'll have her check it and then see if we can post here about it.

 

We're all packed and ready except for the girls so once they're loaded up we're heading to Atlanta! We should arrive around 3-4pm today but we aren't staying at the host hotel tonight since they wouldn't give us con rates for this evening. But we'll be showing up Friday morning to get our room there and WILL be at registration at noon to get everything figured out. Once we do that then we'll see what panels we're going to on Friday afternoon and do some supper later. We aren't sure if we're doing something alone or with DD peeps yet but I'll post here to let others know!

 

We can still do our own swap thing if people are interested but that's cool that the con set aside for one too! And it's nice to finally know when our panel is! I hope 15 minutes is enuff time to pack up all the girls!

 

I'm super excited about this and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and chatting/hanging out!

It's gonna be a race from the airport!

I'm really excited that my panel isn't until 3 on Saturday! That means I get to go to the vinyl panel and meet you guys and have plenty of time to set up my stuff after.

I was told it's $20 for individual day passes.

D'oh -- you guys have fun without me, my friend canceled and something's come up.. TT^TT daaaaangit

We just got into Atlanta and we're staying at a Microtel one exit down from the con hotel. Everything arrived safely with us and we're about to head out to scan the local mall for stores.... I think there's an American Girl store near us.

 

In the morning we're going to the con hotel to meet AsianEd and move into our room for the weekend. When it hits noon we'll go register and then grab lunch before the 2 o'clock opening ceremony.

I'd love to get there and help set up! However I'm awfully worried at this point as to whether I can / should even try to do so, because of lack of information from the con itself. The operating hours for the registration desk are not posted anywhere, which makes it impossible to know if a one-day badge is actually obtainable by 9:45 on Saturday morning in order to help. If the desk happens to not open until 10, for instance, then far from being early, I'd be late to the panel!

 

To address the question I tried emailing the designated registration inqury address, but oddly the email bounced a few hours later with a "temporary delivery delay" message. I'm shocked that they cannot receive questions one day before open. As a result, I just look like this: ?_?

 

Since I've been unable to nail down a concrete plan, I'm wondering if I should just try to go next year instead, and hope that more thorough planning information is available. It sucks since I was really hoping to go. But barring a miraculous turn of events I regret to say that it looks like Aoko won't make it after all. =/

The last two years I've been, I only attended Saturday and was able to buy a one day pass. I'm counting on it this year, as I plan to get there around nine.

Seems like the schedule is updated but info is sparse as ever. Starts at 10am so I'll be there at 9am ish. It's unfortunate that the schedule isn't categorized into the selected days themselves.

SakuraSylph, I really do hope you decide to come on Saturday! I'm sure you'll be able to do a one day pass like you need to. It would suck for you to have to wait until next year to come. Please reconsider!

Well, things would be easier for you as far as getting the layout of the place and where your room is going to be to set up in if you came this evening. We're going to go check stuff out like this later today. Also, if you came today, there's things going on as far as panels and such so you could hit those as well.

 

But $90 is $90 bucks. I know the pinch of trying to save moolah! It's totally up to you on this but I'd think the extra time to spend getting settled in tonight would be worth not having to rush around tomorrow morning.

Howdy! The venue itself is really nice and all the rooms the con is using are relatively close together. Parking is under the hotel but its easy to get upstairs. There are some really cool areas inside and out that will make great backdrops for photos with the girls. The schedules are up and posted at the entrance to every room and you also get a copy when you register.

 

Our panel is at 10am tomorrow morning and we have almost 2 hours to do it so it should give us lots of time for the presentation and Q&A. After that, we're going to 3 or 4 panels ourselves but we'd like to have a get together for all the DD peeps sometime during the day or early evening. Once we all get here we can figure something out.

Registration should be open by 9:30am and will be in the same hall area as our panel so if they're running late ( like everything else today was ) then you'd just register and walk into the room next door for our panel.

 

So far we're having a good time here and the DD girls that we've brought out with us so far have gotten a lot of attention. But everyone seems to be asking about the Smartdolls more than anything else. It seems Danny's media blitz has garnered quite a bit of attention from people.

 

The dealer and artist area isn't very big but I didn't get to see much of it today due to being at panels and helping the people running the con get their projector up and running. If you're expecting a medium to large sized con that's run efficiently and effectively then don't bother coming. If you don't mind a small con run in a slipshod manner where things kind of just happen around when they're scheduled but not quite then you'll be fine. We had high hopes for this con but in seeing how the people running it are doing things, I don't see how they've managed to keep it going for it's 3rd year. The people running panels are fun and interesting tho and we've had fun at every one we've been to. I know more people will be showing up tomorrow so hopefully things will be a little more lively by then.

 

It's not what we expected but it's not as bad as other small cons I've been to. I'm not sure if you'd want to come here for the con itself but if you want to meet us, hang out and have some DD fun for a day then by all means please do come on down. We'd all love to meet you guys and hope you decide to come.

Well there we go, that's our miracle: information!! Thank you, sir Baldylox. Since reg will theoretically be open with plenty of time, then I'm happy to come on down with the Aoko prop. I just got her out, and I think she's going to be a really good prop - she's got a range of small stains from her tights that run the gamut from almost invisible to one super-dark frostbitten big toe, so she'll demonstrate a good variety of what can happen to a DD over time.

 

I'll consider myself duly warned about the con. Your description is kinda what I figured it'd probably be like, based on how the attendee-facing media is (not really) being handled. I've been to other small cons before, but that was a long time ago when anime was super niche in the US. In any case, I'll check out the offerings, go to a few panels, and mostly have a day of DD fun.

 

DJ is staying behind to look after our bird, so you should expect just me and Aozaki. I'll wander into the panel room as soon as I get registered and be on hand to help set up. You can recognize me via the blue Defcon polo shirt I'll wear and the blue Volks carry bag I'll bring Aoko in. Seemed appropriate.
