Mid-Con Report

BaldyLox and Company's panel on Vinyl was a huge hit (so they tell me).

AGBJD01.jpg

There were vinyls of all shapes, brands, and sizes represented (almost),

AGBJD02.jpg

Even a whole new Smart Doll (and a partial one),

AGBJD03.jpg

Obitsus and Dollfie Dreams (is that a resin?).

AGBJD04.jpg

And lots of Dollfie Dreams (Duh! It's a DD forum),

AGBJD05.jpg

And a couple of Belldandys (Only one vinyl though).

AGBJD06.jpg

And there was some other stuff, but we're only here for the vinyl.

Thanks so much for sharing pictures of this event! I've always been curious as to what goes on there and the types of dolls showcased. Looks like Baldy put his time in. I hope everyone had a great time.

Makes me wish I lived near Atlanta so I could attend.

Yeah, he did. The panel that he and Rebecca ran was well thought out and presented in a fun manner. I liked that each of the dolls in the lineup had a unique purpose for being there, and that enough were available to represent so many different sides of vinyls. Examples of Obitsu, DD1, DD3 in all 3 skintones, DDS, MDD, VMF, PureNeemo, Smartdoll, Smartdoll's frame, stained doll, custom faceups, peach-pai, modded normal head, and a modded limited head were all on hand for demonstration. Plenty of good info in the slide deck as well.

Great job Baldylox! (and Rebecca, but I don't know her forum name)

Thank you! I was super nervous ahead of time while I was putting the presentation together, but I'm glad that it seemed to go over well with everyone

I'm so happy I got to meet all of y'all, it was a super fun time, and I can't wait to do it again!

Yes, Chii is a resin. You could say she's the precursor to the DDs, her head mold is awfully similar to what later became the 01 head.

Also, my pictures are up! Atlanta BJD Convention

I know I had a great time at the con. Was so nice meeting everyone, seeing all the lovely dolls in person and the panels were informative as well. I hope to see you all again one day.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late reply but things were really busy for me over the weekend.

First off, thanks to everyone who made it to the panel! I know poor K2 had airplane issues and didn't get there til we were wrapping up but he still managed to share some gorgeous girls with us and hang out for a while afterwards.

Meeting everyone from the boards was AWESOME! Putting names to faces is great and now I feel I know you guys who showed up even better! A few shoutouts:

Ruzzy - Thanks for hanging out with us and doing pics later in the day! Your girls were super cute and fun! Your anthro panel was also really well done and I enjoyed that.

Talolili - It was great to meet you! Thank you for the help out in the park with pics, I really enjoyed taking photos of your girls. I'll have them up on Flickr later today!

Sakuraslyph - Thanks so much for letting us borrow your Aoko to demonstrate what stains look like! I had quite a few people ask what her mold was because they liked her look and style. And thanks for hanging out at panels with us too, it was nice to talk with you!

K2 - I know you missed our panel but it was great that you showed up anyways and added to the display with your wonderful Belle and VMF50 girls. And thanks for that awesome calendar! I'll hang that up in the computer room today!

Mayaiincho - Even tho we didn't talk too much, it was nice meeting you and your girls! I loved your Marissa, she was adorable! And you had two maid uniforms on your girls too, my weakness! Thanks for your interaction during the panel, it was good to answer some questions the resin peeps weren't asking.

And a HUGE thanks to AsianEd, Lovelily and GoodGolly for making the panel a success! Without you guys it wouldn't have worked as well as it did.

I'll do a full post and report on the con later today in another post. It'll have LOTS of photos and details on what happened there. Hopefully everyone that came to the con had fun and we plan on doing it again next year!

Billy

I'm pretty sure I didn't stay long enough. I'm going through some serious convention withdrawal.

Thank you for doing that panel. I was the gal with the 2004 Obitsu. Your panel was really the highlight of the convention for me. I've been at the con for all 3 years its been happening. First vinyl panel i can remember.

It was very informative, well organized... and all the babies!! WOW!! Thank you!!

Heh, I totally agree that you weren't around long enuff. I know it wasn't your fault tho. I do hope that you'll be able to come again next year so that you can be there longer and take your time to enjoy more of the convention.

You're very welcome! Thank YOU for showing up and sharing your Obitsu with us! It was really cool to see another of the older style bodies out there.... Becca was thinking hers was the only one around anymore. I'm extremely flattered that you said our panel was the best one there! Becca worked really hard on it and both of us did our best to try and give as much info on vinyls as we could.

We've been invited back again next year and we will definitely be going! We're trying to do a panel just for the Smartdolls as well as another intro panel for vinyls for newer people coming into the hobby and the con. I'm really hoping we get even more people showing up at the con as well as our panels.

Thank you for the praise and I'm happy you liked the panel enuff to tell us!

So glad to hear you got asked back. I think you will bring a nice option for folks to see. Not everyone is into the resin or abs. I will be terribly honest. I'm not sure i will be back. I've been going to the convention since it's start. And even tho the hotel was super nice, the organization was not. It's kind of heart breaking. Its the closest bjd con i know of.

But i'm so very glad i got to meet you and finally took your suggestion of getting on these forums. I'm very excited to read about it all. And of course, i want some new babies lol

Thanks! That's the main reason we wanted to do the panel in the first place..... I get asked so many questions about my DD girls when resin owners see one for the first time it made me think that *someone* needed to get some info out there for those people with questions. Since we know what to expect now, next year we'll have a more streamlined setup and hopefully more Q&A time.

You aren't the only person to tell me that. This is why myself, Becca, Ed and D'Ann ALL offered our services to the people running the con. We got to talk to one of them and she seemed on board and happy we asked. Once the holidays are done and things slow down, we'll be getting back in touch with them and starting to do some things they either didn't do before or just didn't do effectively enuff last time.

Organization was pretty bad overall and so was their marketing ( or lack thereof ) so those are some of the services we offered to help with or completely take over. We think that if we're allowed to, we can get the word out faster and to more people online, do a much better website with WAY more updates to it and give people a real reason to show up to it.

But i'm so very glad i got to meet you and finally took your suggestion of getting on these forums. I'm very excited to read about it all. And of course, i want some new babies lol

Hee hee, excellent! I'm happy to see you here and I do hope you have fun here. If you have questions, just ask. There are a LOT of very knowledgeable people here who are more than willing to help you out! Also, I'm glad to see you're after some vinyls!

I hope you decide to go back next year. There are some pretty great vinyl folks in the area that attended. Such concentrations are hard to find. I myself traveled from Chicago to meet these people and I'm so very glad I did. With Billy and his crew lending a hand to the organizers I'm sure the convention will be much better in 2016.
