❤Let's become Dollfie Dream Vloggers!❤

Recommended Posts

Innocentsake

Hi everyone~! So I've been talking on & off with katnaper & Sister Kyoya on Twitter about how we should start making Dollfie Dream videos (with katnaper totally being the one who brought it up first ). I know that when I go on YouTube and search "Dollfie Dream" that very few videos turn up in the results. I watch a lot of BJD videos since the resin community is very active on YouTube, but would love to see more videos talking about our lovely vinyl gals & guys on there

SOOOO~

I was thinking that perhaps this could be a really fun activity for those of us on the forum to participate in. Here's a list of topics you can make videos about (feel free to suggest more!):

#1 Introduction- A video introducing yourself to the community! You can give a few blurbs about yourself, talk about how long you've been in the hobby, how you got into it, and whatever else you want to include

#2 Your Doll Family- Show off your gals & guys to the world They may have been with you in your introduction video, but this time you can talk more in-depth about their names, personalities, stories, and whatever else you'd like to talk about.

#2 pettook's Projecting Prompt- This topic is one I saw YouTuber, pettook, talking about on her channel. What sort of things do you project onto your dolls? Likes, dislikes, love of ____, hate of ____, and so on. I thought this was pretty interesting because I'm sure most of us definitely do this with our dolls! Here's her video about what she projects on her dolls:

#3 Thoughts on Young Doll Owners- This topic was done by LariesDollHouse. Do you have any thoughts on those in the hobby who are younger?

#4 Dolls & Mental Health- This topic was done by LariesDollHouse. Does being in the hobby & having these dolls help with any mental health issues you have?

When I was talking with katnaper & Sister Kyoya about the details of this they asked about how long videos should be, how often should we do a new topic, etc.

Length

Totally up to you!

New Topic

Every month seems reasonable~

Various Topics

While topics could be picked out between katnaper, SK, and myself I think it would be even more fun for people to suggest topics too! If lots of topics are thrown out we can choose the one that is more liked, but if no one suggests anything then our trio will decide on something

Camera Shy?

So not everyone likes to be on camera for all sorts of reasons (being shy & privacy comes to mind). You can still make videos! There's nothing that says that you have to be in front of the camera. I've seen a lot of BJD videos where people just have the camera focused on their doll(s) and they are talking in the background.

I think I covered all my bases, but if I think of anything else that needs to be added I'll edit this post. This is definitely going to give me the push I need to make more videos. I've only done one video for my box opening of Rhea (Sasara) since I had never done any sort of box opening before. And even though I was nervous and almost ended up not recording it I still had fun! So I'm really hoping that others on the forum will think this is a fun group activity and it'll give us a chance to become closer as a community. Should you end up making a video please post a link to it! And of course feel free to comment about this with any suggestions, ideas, and whatnot

I'll be trying to record mine this weekend since as of right now I have no plans

Soon... I will try to do one but the exact 'when' is up in the air. Sigh. RL has a tendency of creeping up on me.

I'm interested in this, I know I've seen a few archangeli videos in the past ^_^

Do you guys have recommendations for video editing solutions? I've got a camera/lighting situation that usually calls for some color correction but the youtube tools are a big pain. So far I've only made one video, a quick flipthrough of the Dollybird 21 mook (has some DD patterns and tutorials in it)

jadepixel Hopefully someone can help you out with your question! Since I'm still learning I can't help

I was testing out my webcam, camera, and phone. Out of the 3 devices my phone was the best one For some reason my webcam built into my laptop when it records makes the video sound awful. Like it's picking up noise that isn't going on. My camera was doing the same thing, but not as bad. Another con for the camera was the color was not coming out right. Some parts it would pick up the color and others would be gray.

So I'll have to record with my phone till I can figure something better out~

Amara77 Well when you're ready you should try it out! Perhaps you could make a video talking about the wonderful alpaca wigs you've been making

katnaper Just record when you can RL has to come first before the rest~

I've made a couple of BJD videos, but I've always wanted more DD ones! I'd be happy to participate when I have time

Also, thanks for prompting my lazy butt to make more videos ^^'

I'll have to get Jezatron to make videos with me.

We are doing YouTube videos but hadn't thought of covering DDs.

I did a thing It took me a few tries since it was hard for me to get comfortable, but after like... what 7 or more tries I did it

Here's my DD Intro video

I'm still very much trying to figure out YouTube/Google+. I wanted to change my Channel Name which apparently I have to do through Google+, but it had me do it in a First/Last Name format. I wanted my channel to be Dollfie Dreamer while still keeping my name on videos I comment on as Innocentsaké, but it wouldn't let me do that. So my Channel & Display name is Dollfie Dreamer If anyone knows another way to change this do let me know. Been trying to look up information, but a lot of it is old or conflicting @_@

I'm also camera shy, plus i'll probably don't know what to talk about without sounding very boring.

Here's a suggestion. How about setting up a regular weekly/monthly hangouts to meet new people that you'll otherwise wouldn't be possible. Just like a doll meet up, sort of

I'll make an unboxing video later since my small order of SmartDoll stuff arrived ^_^

I put up my introduction! It can be viewed here:

Warning: It is really awkward and I am nowhere near a natural in front of the camera. I tried, though. I also deleted my other videos because they were really old and outdated. It also contains some BJD stuff because that's important, too, right?

I'm here! I'm here! Just been taking time away from the computer because my wrists were starting to ache again. And sometimes I just get fed up with the computer and want to do more than just type.

Innocentsake: I think Katnaper's original comment was to one that I made about needing to do videos and getting used to speaking on camera for the upcoming Naiomi's Closet tutorials I've been wanting/needing to do. However, I really love the turn this has taken and I'm really looking forward to meeting old and new DD hobby friends! And I'm dragging Ravendruid with me!

I saw your video and I smiled all the way through. I think you did really well. Some of what you said I had known, but it was fun listening to it again. I'll go make a comment on the vid later.

#1 Introduction

For a few days I was trying to figure out what in the world to even say in an introduction. I feel like I'm always bad at introducing myself, especially knowing that I'd be talking to people I've known for a few years as well as people who don't know me at all. Then there's the additional problem that I speak the same way that I write. When I'm nervous I ramble or repeat myself. At least that's one thing editing can help with. I'd love to do it in a single take, but the Amazon would have to freeze over before that would happen. So, I thought I'd post the short list I thought of just in case someone else might find it useful.

* Name or Username (totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with)

* How long you have been in the hobby

* What got you started in the hobby

* Where you live (I normally just say the state we live in, but you could also just say the country instead)

* What kind of DD collector are you? (Do you dress up and play with your girls a lot? Are they like little princesses that you admire as they sit on their pedestals? Are they muse for photography skills or story fodder? Small scale sewing models? A reason to collect a ton of small stuff since it is more fun than dollhouses? (Oh wait, is that just me?) Is she just your anime goddess who finds amusement in watching her minions scatter as she issues her demands?)

* How many DD do you have?

* Have DD had an impact in your life?

As for various topics, I'm personally looking forward to doing a video for each of my DD. Frankly I've been tempted for a long time to do My Froggy Stuff type doll story snippets, even though doing the voices myself would sound nothing like they do in my head, but my sister and I used to do things like that when we were kids. At one point we made a 'radio show' and recorded it on tape (lost long ago) and all I remember is we made an ad for Hubba Bubba bubble gum where my sis was doing the main dialog and I was saying "Hubba Bubba" in the background the whole time. The segment that followed was a story about Toiletman. It wasn't gross, but the less said about it the better. Boredom creates some odd things. (Am I just rambling? I might be...) Still, I think it might be fun to do DD story videos to see them 'in action.' I feel like I'm going to make a complete fool of myself, so I might as well do it on purpose.

I am so struggling with being camera shy that it seriously isn't funny. I HATE being in front of cameras. Because I don't look like an 'ideal' person, more frequently than I'd like in my life people have judged me, catagorized me, and shoved me into a stereotype before I even open my mouth. Frankly it has gotten so bad that I have a near paralyzing fear of talking directly to people I don't know. My friends here on the forums have seen the extrovert side of me that my own family knows, but even Raven's family has rarely seen. It has been so comforting hiding behind my computer screen to just be who I am, weird quirks and all, and discovering that there are a few people who actually seem to enjoy my company. Having to step out from behind that 'mask' is terrifying, especially in a world that expects perfection. But I want to do new things in my life. My world is pretty restrictive already that the isolation is not as comforting as it used to be. Seriously this is scary as hell, but I want to do it because you guys matter to me. The friendships I've found in the DD hobby have been the best I've ever had. Plus if I can do this I'm hoping it might encourage other shy collectors to participate as well. This is scary, but we can do it! And I'll be here to greet you when you get here.

For the record, Raven and I have done a couple of videos when Kos-Mos and MOMO got here. I haven't posted them on my Youtube channel because it's about an hour and a half long. I'm seriously daunted by editing that thing. And then there is the issue of people hearing me be completely excited and 'squeaking'.

Started watching it again, and I'm just cracking up listening to Raven and I being ourselves. I might upload them just for the entertainment factor without editing. Maybe someone would watch it while doing their DD maintenance or something...

Katnaper: I really look forward to your video when you can get it done!

As for equipment, this is what I'll be using:

Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam I can say it didn't work too badly for the box opening videos, but there is certainly room for improvement in my opinion. I got this one because I knew I needed something mostly decent for doing tutorial videos. It has the auto-focus that isn't great because it makes everything blurry as it is focusing, but once it does it is pretty clear. I'm sure the quality of video will be improved with better lighting. (Didn't have my lighting setup when I used it last.)

Ravelli APLT2 50" Light Weight Aluminum Tripod with Bag This is the same tripod I use with our Canon camera for photo shoots. Cheap and not the sturdiest thing in the world, but I don't take it outside, we don't have kids toppling it over, and the cats aren't allowed near it or in the room where I usually have the camera. All that aside, I've found it hugely helpful and very versatile. I'll have to 'attach' the camera to it with a hardware clamp.

LimoStudio 700W Photography Softbox Light Lighting Kit Photo Equipment Soft Studio Light Softbox 24"X24" Since the lighting in our house really stinks combined with my sun allergy and often doing photos at night, I've had to invest in a couple of lighting setups to make my photos not turn out underlit. This is the better of the two. The softboxes really spread the light nicely like daylight without harsh spots and I've really enjoyed using these. And the DO come with lightbulbs! Personally I'm not sure how I'll do with the lightbulbs since I'm not sure if they are 'full spectrum' bulbs or not, but because of my allergies I'm expecting to have to replace them with LED lights. The bulbs work well and the color of the light isn't too yellow nor too blue. Its actually really nice. I'm hoping that the shielding that the softbox does will make it so I can keep using the current bulbs without an allergic reaction.

Debut Video Capture Software I haven't used this too extensively yet, but it already works well for what I've needed. The first reason I bought it was to do videos where I could record what I was doing on the computer. Partially because it was easier to explain something to my sister on how I use Illustrator, but also to do videos like the two public ones I have where I'm drawing (one of which I'm trying to talk at the same time. Didn't work so well. Multitasking fail. LOL!) It has capabilities to record from my webcam that I haven't tried out yet. Since much of my work is on the computer I really wanted the ability to record what I was doing, if it was drawing, explaining how I use Illustrator and Photoshop, playing Minecraft, or doing things with my 3D meshes.

VideoPad Video Editor I know there are most likely easier and less expensive video editing software out there, but I didn't want to have something that took a lot of fuss or learning to even use. I just don't have time for that. So far it has been very easy to use and I was able to pick up the basics very quickly. I'm interested to see what other options everyone else has.

I'm really interested in what tutorials are needed, especially for just regular DD care and maintenance. Much of the time I wonder about the kinds of questions new DD owners ask. I know there are a LOT of BJD videos out there that cover things like that. It's definitely an important subject, especially to cover what to do when things go wrong, or how to prevent it. Then there are things like seeing where owners keep their DD, how they are normally dressed when not doing photo shoots, and how to organize all the stuff they seem to collect!

Woops, almost forgot to post my YouTube channel: SisterKyoyaVids (Sorry Innocentsake I don't remember how to get a different name for the chanel than the user name because I did it a couple of years ago.)

For those who aren't sure that they want to do these types of videos that's okay too! Feel free to do any sort of video that you want to do To me the most important point of this thread is to get people doing something DD related through videos

I'm also camera shy, plus i'll probably don't know what to talk about without sounding very boring.

Here's a suggestion. How about setting up a regular weekly/monthly hangouts to meet new people that you'll otherwise wouldn't be possible. Just like a doll meet up, sort of

Well if you did ever want to makes videos in the future maybe you could show off your DD projects I really enjoy those sorts of videos as well. Not to mention you're always coming up with awesome items And with that sort of video you can either record then add in audio or you could always do like music with subtitles hehe.

The Google Hangouts sounds like a good idea! You should make a new thread for it so people can post when they are usually free so a hangout can get put together. I've been a few way back when, but it was hard for me to join since I work the night shift and everyone did the Google Hangouts while I was at work

Yah... I just leave mine as Archangeli since I don't really want my full name out there too much.

I'll make an unboxing video later since my small order of SmartDoll stuff arrived ^_^

I had mine as Jen with the initial of my last name, but decided to change it since I'm going to make videos now haha. It just feels weird to see my display name as Dollfie Dreamer. Maybe one day I'll figure out how to make the display name different from the channel name. Once I'm done posting I'll watch your video

I put up my introduction! It can be viewed here:

Warning: It is really awkward and I am nowhere near a natural in front of the camera. I tried, though. I also deleted my other videos because they were really old and outdated. It also contains some BJD stuff because that's important, too, right?

I watched and commented on it Haha yes yes BJD stuff is important too You did a great job and I hope you'll make some more videos

@Sister Kyoya Hehe if anyone had advice on what programs and equipment to use I knew it would be you It's always fun when ideas change from what they originally were and now it's involving even more people which I think helps is getting us to do this. I know it definitely helped give me the push to record since I was like "Well I posted about it so now I have to do it" Tee-hee thanks for watching my video and not getting bored with me~ Even though it took me so many tries to do it that actually helped me to get more comfortable with recording myself I do look forward to seeing the videos that you & Ravendruid come up with.

Great outline to help those who aren't sure what topics they want to hit on during their introduction video. The topics of "Kind of collector" & "How DD have impacted your life" are definitely topics I wanted to hit on in other videos

I love the My Froggy stories so it would be cool to see you do that with your DD family! Questions that those new to the hobby were also topics I thought would be good for videos. Everyone has their ways so it would be good to hear about how each person takes care of their DDs and whatnot. And yes please put that video of you & Ravendruid unboxing KOS-MOS and M.O.M.O. because I want to hear all the excitement

Really happy to see that even though you hate being in front of cameras because of all the things you mentioned that you still want to push through all that and do what you want to do And I think that too! If we shy collectors come out of our shells and show ourselves to the world that others will follow suit

And shoot I was totally going to ask you about the Chanel Name/Display Name problem I'll try to figure it out~

I just want to thank everyone who has participated so far and to those who are in the process of getting their videos ready. It makes me happy to see members of this community join in on a fun "Challenge" such as this (totally stealing bitterfishies calling it a challenge hehe). Hopefully we can keep this going because I'm having a lot of fun doing it and figuring out everything that comes with making videos one step at a time

Don't worry about the processing~ It's all on YouTube and could take more than 30 mins (like my Intro video) or just 5 mins (like my After Event video). It is annoying though watching it do nothing when all you want is to publish the video you've been waiting to upload forever already haha

You did a really great job on your video! I don't think you came off rambly at all really. Plus it's hard to not be nervous when talking to a camera because it feels so weird at first I left you a nice long comment on your video I really do hope to see more videos from you & Umi

It's been really fun watching and hearing all of you out there so far. I've enjoyed seeing sides of you that don't normally come out in the forums. I love how we are all pretty nervous in these, it makes me feel a bit more at ease knowing that I'm not the only one "umming and hmmming". That being sai, it looks like my intro is good to go. Definitely no masterpiece of of either filmmaking or acting, but it is certainly me, so if that's what you want here it is...

Hope you enjoy it!

I just saw everyone's videos and good job y'all! Its so lovely seeing everyone's faces and hearing your voices and it just fires me up to do my own and I've done like a test run of sorts till my camera's battery died. LOL. I've been trying to figure out which best records which and so far I've just tried recording on my phone and on a sony nexF3. So far, no go but I have yet to test the phone cam in the actual room I will do the video in. I tried in our room but it was too dark so I will try it again in my hobby room tomorrow. I tried using the nexF3 but the mic didn't quite pick up the sound so I had to start over. I'm currently charging the batteries on my other camera to see how that works and maybe I will re do the phone one. My webcam is too blurry so that was out too. Also, I can only record at night when the kiddos are sleeping so it might take me a while before I am able to post. But keep 'em coming as I love putting faces onto the names. Its so awesome! I'd love to see more! (especially one where Billy tries to do an intro of each of his girls.

Keep those videos coming! And remember when you upload your videos to put in tags so we can find your videos. Everyone has been doing them so far, but I thought it would be a good thing to mention These are the tags I have been using:

(What tags do you use?)

Glad to hear that the video is getting worked on little by little My camera would record static noise and for some reason would only pick up certain colors making everything else gray And my webcam while the colors of the video were fine the static noise that was happening with my camera was 10x worse with the webcam. Thus my using my phone camera haha~ It would be awesome if Billy would join in on the fun too

I have to wait till my husbands working, he's to noisy to record near I had to use my phone camera, my web cam is terrible. Though I got a weird static noise in the background of mine, husband thinks it maybe the air cleaner.

I can't wait to see your video, this project is so fun!

Bumping this thread since I'm uploading the first of my three videos introducing my girls to everyone Since I made this video I went ahead and added "Your Doll Family" as another topic on the list. This video is going to take awhile to upload though as I did my first 3 girls and it came out to 21 minutes once I spliced each piece of video taken together. If anyone actually sits down and watches the whole thing then I'll be really proud of you

Update: Woot it finally uploaded~ Here's the link
