dd-2 body

Thinking about getting a dd-2 body. Are new dd3 parts compatible with the older dd-2 body?, like busts and head.

The heads are still compatible but the busts I'm unsure of.

Volks DD heads can go on any body! As can hands

 

Busts ... no. base-2 and base-3 are designed differently with different internal mechanics goin on. So the busts between both models will sit awkwardly on each other's switched frames

I thought the only real difference in the bust was whether the arm holes had that extra vinyl or not? I didn't have any problems putting a DDII bust on a DDIII frame.

It's just the arm holes. I swap my DD2 busts onto DD3 bodies quite often if I need to.

 

The bust for DDS - S bust is noticeably slimmer.

 

Heads are interchangeable without any problem

 

Random tidbit - the DD3 feet (and armature piece) fit on the DD2 body too, in case you ever need to do that (staining, broken joint, etc). I bought a bizarre second hand body that was missing the vinyl on the lower legs and had no feet o_0" I planned to use it as a dress form until I discovered the DD3/ DDS feet fit!

I've put a DDII bust on a DDIII frame too, but can you put a DDIII bust onto a DDII frame, because of the extra vinyl?

I am thinking that I should be able to have a dd3 m/l bust on the dd2 frame with a dd2 lower body, with a custom faceup. The older dd2 bodies are way cheap on japan auction, this is why I was asking, and I was unsure if cloth etc would fit on the older body as well.

You can also put DD3 arms on a DD2 body with no problem, but not the reverse.

There's a good thread around here somewhere with a breakdown of the cross compatible parts! But personally I use DD2/DD3 busts interchangeably. I like to use DDS busts too, the sculpts are a bit different and I prefer their M and L bust shape.

I just wanted to add that the last three DD's I bought who were all new from Volks, came with DDII busts now anyway. They didn't have the extra vinyl at all and the copyright on the neck is dated 2003 as well. So I'm not even sure they bother with a different bust at all anymore.
