Hello from Texas :)

Hi everyone. Brand new to the board and to Dollfie Dream. I just received my first DD, a Volks Alisa, about a month ago and just a few days ago my first MDD showed up...a Cirno. Love both the dolls and you can count me as officially addicted. I love anime so it was a no brainer that I would love these dolls.

 

I'm not much of a chatter and tend to lurk more than talk so please forgive my shyness. I am trying to force myself to be more social!

Welcome! My grail doll is Alisa so I'm green with envy that you've got that amazing doll. Lucky you!

I was thinking about moving to Texas in the next couple years. How do you like living there?

Oh cool! What area of Texas are you looking at? I'm in a town that's about 30 minutes north of Dallas. I've been to several areas of England and S. Wales and I will say that Texas is not as scenic as England but it is warmer with lots more sunshine. I will never forget my first visit to see a friend in Wales. We always took her dog to a local castle for a walk. I couldn't believe it. Here I am on a casual walk with her dog around a castle complete with moat and swans. We do not have those things in Texas.

 

The benefits of living in Texas:

- Cost of living is much less and there are no income taxes here like in other states. Housing is inexpensive for what you get. Most homes in Texas are big and probably larger than what you would be used to.

- It is pretty in certain areas like around Austin and San Antonio - that area is probably my favorite part of Texas. South Texas is gorgeous, but pretty humid. East Texas is nice too, but it isn't as metropolitan (it can be very rural) as other areas.

- I'm located in North Texas and it's mostly farmland without a lot of trees so it can be a bit boring scenic wise- you'll find pockets of nice, but in general it's pretty flat.

- I have not been to West Texas other than driving through, but although flat, it's interesting in its own way - feels more like New Mexico.

- There are lots of jobs here and the market is good.

 

But like all places, there are pluses and negatives. One thing off the top of my head that's not so great about Texas is the heat and humidity. Summer can be brutal and we're warm most of the year. Weather can be wacky in Texas with temperatures that can be all over the place within the same week. Winter can be mild or very cold with snow, depending on the area of Texas you are looking at. Texas is also a conservative state.

OH!!! I almost forgot. I LOVE my Alisa!!! She excessed my expectations the minute I opened her.

Wales is a beautiful place to visit as I'm living just an hour drive north of it and so far they have the most complete looking castle ruin in Conwy which was really impressive. You sure don't get those sights in the USA that's for sure. The large amount of bumble bees in the spring is always so cute to see too.

I'm actually originally from Utah and moved to the UK about 5 years ago and I miss our bigger houses, roads, cars, etc just like you were describing. Sometimes I get claustrophobic in this UK environment because it's not what I'm used to, but the seasonal depression I have doesn't help in a mostly rainy country either! LOL

I heard about the humidity and heat, but that doesn't scare me off at all as I've got arthritis in my spine that would benefit from a warmer climate than England or even Utah (snows 6 months of the year). It's very relieving to hear that the economy is still doing well in good ole TX and I have been house hunting on the internet to see what that market is like and so far I really like what I see. My hubs and I want a good sized home w/ at least 2 acres and TX sure does have that a plenty!

Oh Aubzy82!! You're from Utah!! Yep, the first time I went to the UK I was surprised at the teeny roadways and the teeny cars. My friend , who now lives in England, was just as surprised at our large homes and giant roadways when she came to Texas. Shoot, I had a friend from California visit and she said the same thing as my friend from England. Things are big in Texas!!

 

It's funny how we get used to things and can't live without them. As much as I curse Texas at times I'm sure I'd miss it if I ever left.

Ooooh I have family that lives in San Antonio. I tend to visit yearly, no particular timing. My sister, while she doesn't have a doll, loves Dollfies, so if you ever come to see San Antonio, give me a hollar

Hey RedLion I love San Antonio! It's such a cool city and one of my favorite Texas places to visit. I'll look you up if I visit sometime in the future.

You're lucky to have two very gorgeous girls as your first. Cirno is one of my grail girls I will forever want. At least Alisa is getting a re-release soon.

 

Have you been planning to buy or make any more yet? The bug bit me pretty hard early on.
