New DDs (Kirika,Alisa, and Mariko)

I'm waiting on my Kirika- she should be delivered today and if not I can pick her up from the post office this afternoon. I hate to hear about the problems with her wig. I'll check mine out when I get it & will edit this post about the quality (or lack of).

 

I'm glad girls are showing up to their new homes. I never got a shipping notice from Volks- Just a notice of missed delivery.

Sorry to hear about the troubles with Kirika's wig That's so unfortunate to get quality like that when you pay such high prices for an item.

Mizya your Mariko is adorable! Can't wait to see the custom version. Too bad Volks didn't improve her wig, I had same issues with the student version and eventually sold it.

 

Thank you! I'm so happy to have her at home, for a long time I thought that I may never be able to get her. It's a little sad that there are problems with the wigs... Volks wigs are rather pricey and I always wondered what is so amazing about them because they go for such high prices on the second hand market as well. I can't say I'd be tempted to buy more after this one... I do love how neatly the parting is done on her wig and how the braids thin down towards the tips (just like real hair would), but that small and non-strechy wigcap... ugh. :S Especially after seeing how it stains right away, I definitely can't use it without that fabric cap... but getting it on the doll's head with that cap is almost impossible. >A>;;;

I kept her look close to the Volks default, but with my painting style. ^^ I changed the colour of the default eyes in Photoshop to suit Megu better, ahah... You can view her full box opening in my blog.

 

Speaking of problems, is Volks willing to help with some minor issues? I noticed that my Mariko's right hand's thumb has this weird dent: photo. Her wrists are also completely stuck, I can't get the inner frame part out at all. :C I've tried pulling on them and also wiggling, but they just won't budge. I'm afraid that the wrist ball will snap right off if I try to use even more force. I left the arms on the windowsill for the night as it's cool there, but I still wasn't able to wiggle them out.

 

Do you think Volks would be willing to send replacement parts if I contacted them, or if my only choice is to buy a new pair of arms and hope that they aren't stuck too?

My Mariko's wrists are really tight too. It's the first DDS I've had, so I don't know if that's something with the DDS bodies or a defect. As for the thumb, I'd contact Volks. They might not do anything, but it can't hurt to try.

I’ve decided to send am email to Volks and see if they will do anything about Kirika’s wig. Not only are the sides patchy and scruffy as per my photo but when I got home to try it on it doesn’t even fit right! The Wig seems way too big, I had it on with the bottom edge right against the neck and the side edges right up against her ears but the top of the wig is empty, you can actually push it in on itself. This makes her head look lumpy and misshapen and it just as an overall package looks horrible.

 

Again, when I had Sakuya, I never had this issue with her pony tail wig, yes Sakuya’s wig was a little bit harder to get on as it was very fitted but at least once you got it there, it looked fantastic!

 

I agree with others that the fibers on Kirikas wig aren’t the best quality but I could forgive that if everything else was ok, but there is just too much wrong with it. Its unusable in my eyes.

 

I'll let you guys know what they say if they come back to me.

Yeah, I agree: it doesn't hurt to try and contact them. I thought that if I didn't manage to get the wrist parts out even after trying everything that I could think of, I'd send them an email about it.

 

But luckily, after I kept the arms in the freezer for a while and continued wiggling on the wrists, I got them out by 3-5mm. Then I put the arms into the freezer again and the next time I tried wiggling them, I got them out a little more and was eventually able to pull them out completely (the other arm needed a third trip into the freezer though). Phew! I thinned down the pegs a little so that they slide in and out smoothly. My hands are totally sore and out of strenght now, though. :'D I hope I never have to do this operation again...

So the Alisa I got from YAJ and the Mariko I won from Volks arrived today at the same time. Alisa thankfully was undervalued so the customs wasn't too bad but best of all the postman missed the customs on Mariko for €150!

 

Anyway I noticed that Alisa's box was a little on the bigger side...

 

 

On the bright side I now have a box big enough to ship my Maeve off XD

Are there any wig shops that well similar pony tail wigs? I know of mandarake and can can but I don't really like theirs for one reason or another. Is there anywhere else?

The face up is already done as well, but I don't have nice photos of it yet. Maybe tomorrow...

 

The eyes are indeed really nice. I never noticed before I took them out that they have a bit of purple at the top in addition to the blue and turquoise. They're just a bit too blank for my tastes (I want proper black pupils) so they'll have to change eventually.

Late to the party, but I wanted to pop into this thread with my update & comments My Mariko (who I renamed Rem) arrived on 9/12. Made sure I was awake and ready to catch my mailman who always comes very early in the morning I quickly signed for her and took her up to my doll room. Originally I planned to do an unboxing video, but just couldn't wait to open her. I've seen her several times in person thanks to HPotaku, but it's so great to be able to call her my own. So instead here are some photos that I've posted of her on Instagram. Haven't had time to take proper photos

 

 

*Immediately replaced her eyes with Saber Lily default eyes & a wig from Lullaby Poem~ Eventually she'll also be getting a custom face-up.

 

While I'm in love with Rem herself she did end up coming along with several problems I would have to fix. Like many others in this thread my Mariko came with very tight wrists & both knees were loose unable to hold a pose. Once again I'm very unhappy with the lack of quality control that Volks has done with these dolls. Since all my new dolls & doll bodies have come with problems I've just come to accept that I'll need to fix something. For the wrists I held the arm tightly and was able to pull the wrist joints out. I just filed them down till they were easier to move around. For the knee pegs I took the shin vinyl off and pushed down the internal frame to get to the knee peg that needed to be thickened up with super glue. Rem is all fixed up now so I can fully enjoy her

 

Sorry to hear that those of you who got Kirika ended up with poorly put together wigs

Mizya did you ever contact Volks about the defective hand on your Mariko? Also glad you were able to get your Mariko's wrists out without damaging them!

so cute all the new DDs ! congrats guys ! . Now in waiting for my Mariko that i won in yahoo auctions ^^ >o< !

sad to say my Kirika's butterfly hair ornament snapped today too. it was easy to get on, but i tried to move it with only one wing in hand and it snapped. my guess is between both wings is a point of high tension when around the thick ponytail.

 

I amthankful that mine has a nice wig, anyway. I hope some superglue will make the butterfly useable again
