Things I should have for my Dolls?

Recommended Posts

HollowAtaraxia

I was just wondering if you veterans could suggest things I should have for my dolls. I heard MDD's have weak joints (the only two I own are MDD's), so I plan on ordering a set of Kips so that I can hopefully pose them without a stand. I also have plans to purchase a body suit and a wig cap.

Aside from those, are there any necessities?

Any recommendations for a stand or display case that would fit MDD's would be appreciated as well~

Ty for your time!

I know this isn't really relevant to the original topic, but... what's the difference between MSD and MDD? Would a stand for MSD fit an MDD?

Just a word of advice, the way that M/DDs are made, well, kips won't help you. Kips are more for strung dolls (ABJD/SD), not the DD. They won't get the same kinda tension that is applied in the joints due to being strung and thus the grip of a kip won't work with the plastic skeleton.

Oh, so I guess a stand is unavoidable..? Do you happen to know any good alternatives to the ones on the Volk's store or are those basically the cheapest I can rely on?

http://us.sk-coolcat.com/front/bin/ptlist.phtml?Category=185699 coolcat has a great range of stands.

They also have joint reinforcements (basically washers) for the hip and shoulder joints, though not for MDDs as far as I see.

The difference between MDD and MSD is that MSD are strung dolls, they don't have the vinyl skeleton that DDs have. They can wear most of the same clothing, though. Sizing is broadly the same.

Coolcat also have wig caps and body suits, so you could save on shipping and get all of your immediate accessories in one order.

The current-gen MDD bodies have much stronger joints, so can stand better

Prev-gen MDD's usually need their knees fixed with kips -you just sandwich 'em between the screws and joint, works wonders!!

otherwise... must haves are:

stand in general. Sometimes even with strong knees your girl could use that extra balance of a stand. Goes double if you're gonna be taking outside photos

saddle-style are best for doing weird poses (or maybe thats just me and my OCD~ness of balancing things that shouldnt be...) and a super-cheap American Girl encircling the doll's waist stand can work as a alternative

Or you could just buy her a chair?

zit-away cream! "Benzoyl Peroxide (10%)" for stain removal is a must! Especially with Volks clothes getting more and more stain~y over time

MSD to MDD - similar scale, the MDD has slightly fuller hips, so some skirts may not fit right. Learned this from a couple older Volks outifts. It was really weird too, the skirt itself was pleated so kinda full, but the lining was not!

Oh wow I hadn't even thought about how I would stand/sit them. Stands and chairs are such great ideas =O This is a great thread ^_^

You can find inexpensive doll stands at Hobby Lobby and Michael's.

I didn't even think to look for doll stands at Hobby Lobby. I think I'll try to get one with their 40% off coupons. I'd much rather try out a cheap stand then shell out $40-50 for one from Volks. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions so far everyone! This thread is proving to be a really great resource for me and, hopefully, other newbies! =]

Um, are the washers noticeable on the doll?

Wow, I didn't even consider checking HL or Michael's. I have a Michael's like 10 minutes away, so I'll definitely go check. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Um, are the washers noticeable on the doll?

They will be hidden inside the knees themselves

I think all of us talking isn't making you visualize it just right, so here's an entire tutorial someone done ages ago! Again, this was for the last-gen MDD bodies. base-3 bodies didn't need it as badly

Oh, perfect! Thanks for the guide =]

Btw, you wouldn't happen to know where I can check what kind of body my dolls use? I think my Prisma Illya is new enough to not worry about, but my Hollow Ataraxia Illya might fit in the "last-gen" category...

Any limited character MDD that isn't Cirno or Prisma Illya will be using the older MDD2 body. Assuming the previous owner didn't already change it out.

I am glad that I stumbled upon this thread. I did not realize that you could buy stands at Michael's!

Does anyone know where else we can buy body suits? It seems Volks is always sold out.

I know Dollfie World has some direct from Volks, though their price is always a bit high for my tastes, and CoolCat also sells some in DD size.

Just like fishbuttz said I usually only buy from DollfieWorld if they have something I've never seen anywhere else. But of course it's definitely an option if they have something you really want & don't mind paying more. I really like the Cool Cat~ I have a body stocking from them (that I actually never used haha) and it's very nice quality. Also I've seen other members here e-mail Cool Cat about things that are out of stock to see if they can order them This is another thing we'll go over when I come over to talk
