Joey eljaber Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) To me, doll favouritism is kinda real like, if I have two of my dream dolls, moe and smart doll Mirai suenaga, if I have only one, I'd be happy just the she is, but I kinda feel like if I had both of them, I'd choose to put my favourite head, moe's, on the best body, smart doll's, and leave the other doll with the second, not the best body. I do it all the time with every kind of doll, obitsus and pure neemos, BJDs, repainted dolls, etc. am I the only one who chooses to make one the best, taking away some of the others advantages? Eustia Posted July 27, 2015 I've seen plenty of mixing and matching. I personally have an SQ head on an MDD body (with another in the works) though I don't have a smart doll yet; I like their bodies, but not heads or outfits. I'd buy one of their bodies outright if they were available, though. There are the range of silicone bodies around, too. I'd kind of like one despite their dust issues and such, but they're too expensive for me. >.< The lack of joints is really appealing, with a DD head on, since DD heads are, to me, the most appealing. The anime aesthetic works well in dolls, where most other brands fall in to the creepy realm of uncanny valley. So, yeah. I think it's not unusual, though calling it racism is perhaps a tad over the top.
Yukamina Posted July 27, 2015 I don't see how that's racism o_O at all. I thought this topic would be about some of the attitudes I've seen people have about dark skin dolls. What you're talking about is just customizing dolls and liking some sculpts more than others... We're all in this hobby to make our dolls the best they can be according to what we like most. I bet if you could, you'd get a Smart Doll body for both of those heads. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
aquilla429 Posted July 27, 2015 I wouldn't call it racism, it would fall under hybridism if anything surely? I have 3 hybrid dolls, all ddh01 heads, I have 2 on an obitsu 50 body and one on the p40 body. I did this because I don't like Vollks mdd bodies and I like the in between size of the 50cm bodies and it is something that volks don't offer. It completely normal, people do it with Azone, Blythe, Pullip, BJD and all sorts of dolls. I've never seen it regarded as racism though. sweetmouse Posted July 27, 2015 Maybe you mean favoritism? Your favorite doll is getting special treatment.
PuPaKa Posted August 14, 2015 I think they mean favoritism? >_> A lot of collectors have a favorite doll and it's usually the one who gets the most camera time and first dibs on any clothes/ etc. I don't really have a favorite so far, but I do want at least one of my dolls to be super perfect and I'm hoping that will be my first DD girl. The rest I am willing to do my own face ups on and attempt learning to sew for. So they might not look as polished, but it doesn't mean I don't love them!
