Smoothing Wig Frizz with Garment Steamer

Recommended Posts

hatchetsforhands

Hello!

I've been doing a lot of research lately on synthetic wigs, specifically synthetic wigs that are not heat-resistant, and I have discovered that a garment steamer can be used to remove frizzy, bent-out-of-shape fibers on Volks brand wigs that are not heat-resistant.

My DD Hatsune Miku's hair fibers have been getting crinkled, frizzy and damaged the last few weeks I have owned her. I felt gutsy enough to dry using a fine-tooth comb and garment steamer on her hair, while laying the wig down on a granite counter-top. Also, make sure all of the hair is tangle free before using the steamer.

It completely made her hair like new, and did not melt any of the fibers!

The steaming process will completely straighten the hair, but during the last step it is very easy to reshape the hair, steam it, and let the hair cool to hold the desired curl.

I can post photos of how my Miku's wig looks soon.

In the meantime, I found a great

that explains the process.

Albeit it is not the best quality, but it really shows the process clearly and describes the tools that should be used. I definitely recommend staying away from dry heat sources like hair curlers, straighteners, etc. Use ONLY a garment steamer, and utilize this process at your own risk. With that said, my wig looks incredible after being steamed and smoothed out.
