1) Try to sell it to a SD owner. Maybe on DoA.

2) It happens, especially when you buy things from auctions, sometimes a seller forgets to mention size, or mentions the wrong size/etc. I've bought something clearly labelled as MDD size and it turns out to be SD size.

3) Usually the best solution is to sell the item. Mandarake doesn't accept returns.

I think DoA is your best bet or try to hook up with your local BJD community. Always easier to sell locally if possible.

Are there actually holding hands for DD? In any case, I can see how you could make this mistake, since it's a Volks item and it can be hard to tell with Mandarake listings sometimes.

But, I'm sure someone in the BJD community will buy them off of you.

Personally, I've never really messed up shopping for dolls (so far...), though I have bought things I regretted later, or found I had no use for. Thank goodness for the secondhand market.

They do exist, but they were only given as a special gift to those who attended Dolpa 30. As you can see in the photo that Angardia posted the package lists all the different holding hands they made for this event. I've seen the DD/DD, MDD/MDD, and DD/MDD ones on YJA a few times. Though they always end up going for huge amounts I'd love for Volks to make these standard in the future, but since it was a special gift in order to get into the Guinness World Records for most dolls holding hands I'm not sure they ever will. I can dream though

ye they are a rare find!

i got an email from Complex O.O

Your order was cancelled because the items were sold out.

wow! and i thought i was the first.... they sell fast! but it kinda saved me!

mostly the holding hands for SD go for around 70$

for DD they can go up to 100$

but i honestly wish for DD\DD with SM\N or SM\SM

i know only normal\normal exist

In my situation, the click finger was faster than the brain. In June 2014, I saw a used like-new Volks SD size Violin case for $50 in an auction that would end fairly quickly. Forgot to check where it was shipping from. I won the auction, then realized I had purchased from emandarake in Japan selling on Ebay. Naturally the item had to ship EMS because of size. Same item was available at that time from the Volks USA store. Grand total did result in some savings, but not the screaming bargain I initially envisioned. The case is brand new with the key, so it was not an expensive lesson. I noted while checking for this reply that the cost of that the SD Violin case has gone up somewhat, so there is less angst over the deal now than there was at the time. The thing is, you would think at my age I would have learned this lesson long ago.

Pretty much only suggestion really is "read everything carefully"

I owned BJDs and one DD, so here are some basic tips I stumbled upon while in the hobby:

Wigs: needs to be stretchable 9" or 9/10". I cant speak for character model MDDs, but for custom MDDs that uses the standard DD heads, same rules apply. Some say that DDs can wear stretchable 8-9" but I hope someone other than me can clear this up ^^.

Eyes: (I'll save this for later)

Clothing: M-bust peeps will be 95% of the time will be fine with clothes made for "DD", " SD" or "SD13". For L-bust and DDDy peeps, it varies on the type of clothing. It is a hit or miss for getting SD16 clothes, but if you really want to know if it will fit then to to ask here or on DoA for some photo reference. Some customizers are also willing to take commisions that are tailorly fitted for DDDys or L-busts. For Volks products, they are most of the time marked on which dolls it should fit.

Some companies use "1/3" for SD size and "1/4" for MSD size.

For MDDs, M-busts are also safe with clothes for MSD, but be careful buying non-Volks clothes for "slim MSD" or "1/4 mature" or any of those combinations. They might be too small for MDDs.

Shoes: Again, you can use SD or MSD as reference, but fittings may be a problem if they are open-toed, slipper-type, strap-type, with heels, etc.

For items mentioned above: Also be wary of any dark material, as those can STAIN.

As for the eyes: This is another discussion by itself, because there are several type of eyeholes: round-type, square-type, slit-type and oval-type (those are just made up terms, and in no way in standard, by the way). Commonly made eyes, such as round and oval types, suited each type differently, and the way it fits and if it looks good is up to the doll owner's point of view.

Usually eye sizes (that fit DDs) are from 20mm to 24mm (not sure if there are 18mm's, but there could be some). However, faceup also contributes greatly if your chosen eye size/type will look good on your doll's eyehole. Your best bet is to look for owners that have the same headmold as yours and ask for the brand and/or eye-size their doll is wearing. I also find that different companies don't have a standard when it comes to iris size.

Stay away from any 1/6 stuff because there is a 99% chance that it won't fit, haha.

If you are still unsure, you can just ask here before purchasing and hopefully someone will be helping you with your worries

I had my share of mistakes: buying sizes too small, doesn't fit, or colors that looks differently in person, but my always last option is to find someone in my local community to sell it or trade it with other items, so it would not be a waste and make another doll happy

I hope it helps!

I own 40+ (and probably more like 60+ but I never bother to count) 8-9 wigs from a variety of sellers, and every single one fits DDs. In all my years of collecting, I think I've only found one or two 8-9 wigs that won't fit on the larger DD heads, but they'll still fit on the smaller DD heads.

You can totally purchase 9-10 if that's your preference, but it's not necessary, and I totally avoid 9-10 because they are way looser than I like.

Thanks for the additional input I actually wanted someone to backup me up on that one (or even contradict me, I won't take offense, and it also keeps the conversation healthy ). And also for pointing out that there are smaller heads and bigger heads. I almost forgot about that one. I only remember that DDH-01 is similar to Volks SD Chii (except ears, of course) and being one of the firsts, it tends to have the so-called "melon head" as with the older SD sculpts

I have two wigs (one bought from here, unknown origin) that I simply can't get to fit any head, even my SQs, ranging 01-03, 06-09. I don't know if there's some trick to it I am derping up or if it really is a 7-8 wig.

And one from FMD that only fits some of my heads, which is weird cuz I have plenty of FMD wigs that all fit fine.

Without any labeling, it's hard to say... could be a 7-8, could be a straight 8 (they do exist, I find them to be too tight), could be an 8-9 that wasn't made properly...

I do have 8-9 wigs that won't fit if you're using a wig cap/head cap, but will fit just fine without, so that can also be a contributing factor.

Most people on this forum are pretty good about verifying sizes, but I have seen at least 2 sellers offering items as suitable for DD that I know for a fact do not fit DD at all, so it does happen.
